Damn, I like those kinds of pants on girls.

Of course they're like spandex, a privledge, not a right. If they are going to make a law about it, make it that fat chicks can't wear low riders.

Ah, I feel dumb now. Thought you were making a reference to all the flooding down here. The law doesn't make much of a difference to me anyways so I don't really pay much mind to it. I tend to wear my pants above my thighs anyways.

Even if it passes which I doubt, I don't believe it would be enforced. Of course things more idiotic than this have slipped by before. Such a waste of time and money.

"In the town of Opelousas, wearing saggy pants is considered a misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of a $500 fine and up to 6 months in prison."

Damn I would hate to see what you get for J-walking.

Our wonderful Judicial system at work. Forget gun control or legalizing marijuana, by God's name we just CANNOT have men and women walking around looking sexy.

NO!!! We can't have that, sexy is illegal. OMG what will they come up with next? Going back to the 1800's where women who showed ankles were hussies?

I talk to American on the phones day in and day out. You would be suprised at the amount of people out there who think low cut pants, sexy clothes or questioning government is immoral.

First of all, that sentence didn't make any sense. Your conjugation is horrible. Secondly, any American who believes that it is immoral to question the American government doesn't know the first thing about the US, and is most likely either not originaly from America, or lives in Texas.

I couldn' be happier with this new law, next in line, I'm petitioning for the following bans:

Paganism
Feminism
Dancing
Reading
Voting for Women
and a reintroduction of the Temperance Act.

I then plan to dump my girlfriend and become barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen of an abusive Bible-thumping Babtist and have lots of babies and provide them with overalls and hand-me-down shoes they can only wear on Sunday's at church.

If you can't see the sarcasm in this, go bang your head on the nearest hard object.

Pleh.

I used to live in Houma (that's Houma, not ****, you freaks), Lafayette, Morgan City, Venice, Intracoastal City, ********, err, I mean Fourchon, and Naw 'Lens every other week for five years. So, yes, I lived down there, subsequently moved away, and never looked back.

Remind me to tell you some tales sometime of off-shore life and when I was flying an ambulance down there. Dey pretty fonny, eh, Thibideaux?

Yeah, I'm from Houma. I think **** is more accurate description of the city though. It's trying really hard these days to be a real city, but still failing misserably. No offshore work for me. I prefer my office job.

It's such a silly law, that I bet it will pass, so that future generations can look at the "blue book" laws that we currently laugh at and see this law on the list with those wonderful oldies. I'm sure everyone has seen the list.

Like the fact that in some states, men can't eat onions before going to bed at night.
Or women must wear corsets (with the complimentary job on the books of a corset-checker)
Or women can't wear corsets
Or it's illegal to have sex in any position other than the missionary style.

My favorite is from India (I think it's from India) where it is LEGAL for a woman to marry a goat.

My question is - how will you enforce that? For girls at least, with the low risers, you can't exactly jerk those up over your hips. But guys can just tug on their pants and put them in the proper position as they see the Fashion-Police approaching? I suppose girls can make sure to carry long sweaters with them and throw them on as they see the Fashion-Police, button the bottom buttons and then, no belly showing. :P

And how do you prove that they were wearing illegal clothing in the court? Unless said Fashion-Police will be carrying around a camera to take incriminating photos.... and then wouldn't that be considered child-pornography if said offender is under 18? :)

Just outta curiosity, DarkLordNacho, are you a native or are you a transplant?

Mind you, in my experience the people there are warm, friendly, and very colorful, but not very willing to allow "outsiders" (read anybody whose name does not end in an "X") in their inner circle of friends. It was a very insular few years for my family and myself where our acquaintances were those who were like us and were from out-of-state. The black vs white thing is/was crazy bad when I lived there, underaged drinking is so over the top that I'd see 8 and 9 year olds pulling on 40's at Mardi Gras. For that matter, the legal age drinking problem is equally as bad; and having sloughs on both sides of the road on every road in and out of town is not healthy for drunk drivers.

Frankly, I stand amazed that anybody lives south of I-10, what with all the pollution, filth, poegee (sp?) plants, rusted drilling equipment everywhere, drawbridges holding up traffic, crime, roustabouts, and swamps that are down there. Granted, there is a beauty about the place at times, but when they're burning the marshes and you can't see 100 yards for the smoke, I dunno. I did what I had to do: I left.

Actually, aside from an overwhelming ammount of boredom that has driven my mmo obsession, Houma is a very nice city. Trash isn't nearly the problem that it is in N.O., the streets don't smell like ****, and the drawbridges aren't that big of a hinderance once you learn your way around them. I am a native, but I did spend 6 years away in the military. Despite my groaning about there being nothing to do, I am actually glad to be home.
I can't say much about the acceptance of outsiders. I've never really noticed a problem, but then again I may just be missing it because I've never been on the outside.
The black vs white thing. I've seen some bad things, and I've seen some really good. It almost seems to me that the situation is getting a bit better with every passing generation though. Then again, this may just be my last spark of hope for humanity putting blinders on me. I can only wait and see, while making sure I don't become one of those people holding up progress.

That's coo', Dark. It's been over sixteen years since I was back there and things obviously do change, even if in my own mind they remain the same. Like I say, the people were great. however, I'd better not tell any funny stories* since you might know some of the folks involved.

* My stories tend to have a healthy dose of black humor-- no not that kind of black humor, Skeet --and sometimes are perceived as being heartless by some here. Too bad though, because these are really quite funny...

It would probably be even better if I DID know some of the people. I could use some fresh blackmail material. Funds are getting low these days.
