If you were Iragi would you buy Bush and Rumsfeld's apologies? These guys are pure liars. The apologies seem to be too little too late.

I have a new theory. There are no al qaida suicide car bombers. The al qaida operatives park the car somewhere, then a poor hapless car thief with 12 children at home to feed comes along, sees a nice shiny unoccupied car/van/yugo, jumps in, and <boom>, a few blocks later, no more yugo...

It doesn't matter if you buy thier apologies. They're being held accountable for the actions of thier soldiers. The may be (and probably are) lying through thier teeth when they apologize but thats more then you'd get from the Iraqi's if the tables were turned.

Everyone knows that someone's head is going to role for this and that's where people will get thier gratification. They apologies are just the first step.

What I really love is watching the process of an event like this.

The Liberals start by insisting that Bush and Co, need to appologize to the Iraqi people for what was done, stating that they must take responsiblity for the actions of the soldiers.

Three freaking days later, when that appology is made publically, suddenly it's "They're just lying and saying what they think they need to say", and "It's just too little, too late...".

Um. Whatever. How about you just post: "I don't like these guys and nothing they do or say will satisfy me". It would be more honest...

I never said Bush needed to apologise. I said they needed to take real action. "Yeah. Sorry 'bout that" doesn't particularly count as action. Get back to me when the heads actually roll and I say it's not good enough.

Ok. What would satisfy you? They're investigating the incidents. They're collecting data. They've already removed a dozen or so personnel from duty and are pending court marshalls for them.

It's been what? A week since this story came out? Exactly how much head rolling do you expect?

Story came out in January.

It's the pictures that came out last week. Liberal as I am, I have to wonder why it took the media this long to focus on the fact that the DoD said then they were looking into the torture of Iraqi prisoners.

darn I should learn how to spell and English grammar someday so I wouldn't have to go back and edit my posts

Eh? Stories about Trucks loaded with WMD shipped from Iraq to Syria came out in January too. I haven't heard anything new on that either.

Just because a hint of something appears, and some organization is looking into it, does not mean that it's true (or untrue!), and it doesn't mean that they're done investigating.

Yes, but allege Torture is far more likely to place our men and women in danger then all the WMD we can't seem to find.

No matter how I feel about Bush and the War, letting the Iraqi's have to wait this long to begin to see Bush and Rumsfeld say they are sorry, just allowed thier anger to simmer longer.

It's been a year.

"Now, with respect to when were we knowledgeable of this, the situation was this: Specialist Darby told the CID that he had information about abuses in the prison. I believe it was on the 13th or 14th of January. By the 15th or 16th, an investigation had been initiated. And the Central Command public affairs people went out and told the world; they told everyone in the world that there were allegations of abuse and they were being investigated." — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in testimony Friday before the Senate Armed Forces Committee.

The release:

"Release Number: 04-01-43

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"DETAINEE TREATMENT INVESTIGATION BAGHDAD, Iraq An investigation has been initiated into reported incidents of detainee abuse at a Coalition Forces detention facility. The release of specific information concerning the incidents could hinder the investigation, which is in its early stages. The investigation will be conducted in a thorough and professional manner. The Coalition is committed to treating all persons under its control with dignity, respect and humanity. Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, the Commanding General, has reiterated this requirement to all members of CJTF-7." News release, U.S. Central Command, Jan. 16, 2004.

Nobody cared about it untill the pictures hit the press. An investigation is one thing, prima facie evidence is something else. One would presume (but know for certain) that someone involved in the ivestigation knew about and leaked the pictures.

At the very least the Brig in charge of the prison has to be Dishonorably Discharged.

At the very least.

Well Gbaji, I dont really like any polititions, whether they are liberal or conservative. My point was that if anybody made an apology like this it wouldnt be believable. I kind of see it like two young kids that dont like each other. They get in a fight and get sent to the principals office at which point the children have to apologize, knowing full well that they are not sorry for kicking the snot out of each other. Take responsibility for your actions. Hell yeah we hate those armies that oppose us and they should be happy that they didnt die and instead got a pair of American panties on their heads.
