Just want all you other baseball fans to note who has the top record in the majors. The last team to get rid of A-Rod had many good seasons, I foresee the same for the Rangers.

Teams swept so far: Seattle, Boston

Count your lucky fucking stars that you won any of those games. You caught us in a post Yankee letdown that's all.

Texas? Please, give me a break. You only beat Boston because they blew their load on the Yankees. The records thus far don't mean anything, it's still early; the Yankees will proceed to blow everyone out in the last half of summer, beating Oakland in the playoffs and taking Boston for the championship like usual (sorry Smash, I hate to say it).

Fucking Yankees. I hate em but they are great to watch. As one of my roommates pointed out, last week was their turning point - after a dismal first month, and getting swept by Boston (YAY!) they're now on a four-game run.

My roommate is trying to telepathically influence a trade to get Barry Zito to the Yankees. That would be nuts! Smiley: eek

I had no doubts that Texas was going to be good.. Especially with Soriano. But let's wait till August/September before we all jump the gun. That's one thing I hate about baseball. Everyone in April/May jumps on the bandwagons too early. Too bad no one hangs with their team when they crash and burn.

Especially with Soriano?

How does A-Rod for Soriano improve the team?

If they do better, it's because they finally get some decent pitching, R.A. Dickey looks pretty damn good so far.

Piffle. I don't know who you hang out with, but most of the sports fans I know are die-hards that live and die with their teams.

And since you brought up the phrase "crash and burn", what was the greatest "crash and burn" in the history of sports? Figuratively speaking please. No need to recount the gory details of the US Boxing Team or that Paraguan Rugby lunch bunch.

Personally I'd have to give it to the '78 Red Sox. They were 14 games ahead of the Yanks in August, and managed to get caught, then lose the single game playoff (in Fenway no less).

I was there, in the bleachers, six years old. Don't remember any of it, but I have a picture somewhere of my dad holding me up i the air so I could see over the people standing in front of us.

Does that constitute child abuse? Taking a kid to see his hopes crushed by an inevitable Sox loss, I mean. Mike Barnikle(sp?) took his son to the 7th game of the Yankees/Sox series last year. When the Sox lost, he was torn with overwhelming guilt about what he had done to his son. Not so much the single game, but the love he had instilled in his son for the Sox, and the fear that it would lead to the same kind of lifelong spirit crushing disappointment that he had been subject to. Being a Yankee fan, I can only speculate about it.

And on a side note, what other famous moments have you folks been at personally? I was at Yankee Stadium for David Cone's perfect game, and it was probably the most memorable thing I've witnessed. I can't even begin to convey how exciting it was.
