Yes and no.

If I tell you that if you swim in mayonaise for a month it'll cure your cancer, and you do, and it does, does that mean mayonaise cures cancer?

Hypnosis is like that. If you believe that it will help you, it will. If you believe a post hypnotic suggestion will stay in your subconcious it will (allthought really, very likely in your concious but you'll want to play along.)

Why do shadow and darkness whiz at me at night? Or at all for that matter?

That bites! If I put you in a hot tub for 10 minutes and then threw you in the snow, and then asked you "Cold?". Would that mean I had hypnotized you?

Maybe I needed to be stoned, next time.

Oh Reinman, you're just talking that hypnotized talk.

You suddenly think you are Elton John!

It works to a certain extent. I went to a bar where a hypnotist was entertaining the crowd, watched how he did it, then went and hypnotized my future wife, my friends, and people at parties.

It's fun, of limited use, and only gets people to do stuff that they'd be inclined to do when drunk-- which helps substantially, btw, to bring someone under.

Oh. And it's very easy to do.

Several friends and I learned to hypnotize each other, had lots of fun with it. But like fast cars and some of the other stuff you do when you are young and immortal, it could have had some dangerous consequences.

I never saw that side of it. I think people will do under hyponosis what they'd like to do anyways with no inhibitions. It was, however, always good for a laugh at those college drinking parties.

I actually got one girl who was very very easily given post-hypnotic suggestions to bray like a donkey spontaneously in class the next day when I used the "secret word" while asking the prof a question. She slapped her hand over her mouth, but couldn't stop herself. To those of us who were at that party the previous evening, it was tear inducingly funny.
