Cell phone, in here?Follow

I'll try to phrase this as delicately as I can.

Yesterday, I was at the office, taking a bit of "me time" in the restroom. We're not talking about one of those large, noisy public restrooms. It's a small, 3 stall variety. A woman enters and I hear her dialing her cell phone.

Her stall door closes and I hear the unmistakable sounds of the rustling of clothes & a zipper going down.

I think to myself 'she must be just sending a text message.' No such luck. She starts talking to someone in what I can only assume is her "business" voice. Her tone of voice does not indicate this is an emergency call. As she's talking, she's disposing of her solid waste (audibly).

I flush (probably also audible over the phone), wash up and leave. She's still in the stall talking away.

Cell phones are very convenient in that they can go everywhere with one, but really, is no place off limits? Activating a sound trasmitter near others in a restroom seems like a disregard for people's privacy (and a pretty gross one at that). I can't imagine the person on the receiving end of that call enjoyed listening to her associate's functions, either.

This scenario has played out in my presence enough times to opine it's not uncommon.

Thanks for reading my rant. If I can but spare one person the discomfort of having to listen on the phone to their business associate dispose of their personal solid waste, it will not have been in vain.

On one of my husband's many contract phone interviews he went to the bathroom...despite my flailing arms and attempts to waylay him he insisted he could do his thing while trying to convince this chick she should hire him. THen he flushed....needless to say he didn't get the job...FLUSHING on a job interview??? Sigh... geeks...they cute to look at but you can't take 'em out in public.

Patrician, I believe there have already been law suits & banning of picture capable phones in many places for exactly that reason.

Boundaries, people, boundaries.

Yanari, you are pi$$ing in to the wind here, girlfriend. The people on this board believe in no boundaries, no rules, nothing being private, sacrosanct, or delicate.

I'm surprised no one has tendered the opinion that there should be no stalls, no male/female bathrooms, just slit trenches (and I'm not talking about Katie here, guys) for all.

My "boundaries" comment really wasn't directed at anyone on these boards. It was for those people like those who are now facing school suspension and lawsuits because of inappropriate and illegal use of their cell phone cameras.

So yeah, pi$$ing in the wind I suppose, as I doubt those people are reading these boards.

But sometimes a gal just has to rant or she'll bust!

p.s. Sacrosanct is a great word. Now if I can just find a way to work "mormonics" into conversations, I'll be set.

I'd like to take people who talk on their cell phones while on the toilet and shove those phones up their butts.

Heh, would give a whole new meaning to "Cell phone, in here????"

But then again I'm no big fan of the technology. Only time I will get one again is when my wife gets pregnant.

As a guy, I can't say I run into this often, but when I do I just assume it is because I live in LA and a solid fraction of the people here make soap opra characters look deep. I heard about anti-cell phone while driving laws elsewhere, but I didn't really believe they could have as much trouble as we do, but talking to some of my midwestern relatives, reading this, I guess its universal.

I cringe for you, Yanari.

Simple solution to the problem. Go here:

Buy the cell phone jammer plans (get the pcs version), build it, wire it into the building electrical system, then poof turn it on and no more cell phones in the loo. For added amusement, build a portable one and turn it on when your boss is making important phone calls...

The traffic signal changer is a very nice looking paperweight (that I would never actually use in a real situation due to it being illegal but who's to say what happens at midnight when you are waiting for the light to turn) too.

That would be a lovely solution. Unfortunately I'm a non-managerial office worker employed by a company who won't purchase post-it notes(tm) or paper clips due to their cost. Think they'd spring for a cell phone jamming system?

I just lament the fact that we, as a society, have so lost sight of the most basic (and base) of common courtesies.

I wish theaters would all install cell phone jammers. There is nothing more infuriating than being engrossed in a terrific movie and someone's phone playing "Macarena" and lighting up the entire row in a neon blue glow.

Pi$$es me off something fierce.

An electrical shocking device built into the seat and tied into the cell phone network would satisfy me however...
