One of those momentsFollow

Greetings to all. @ the start of writing this, it is 2:57am and I'm bored as hell at work. Can't say for sure why I'm really writing this. Been sitting here reading Main Forum and OOT posts for the past...oh, 3 hours.

I'm sure what I'm about to type stems from boredom and sleep deprivation, and probably is completely unoriginal...but I could care less. It's what I have to say.

What the hell is really going on any more? I mean...really, WTF? Do we, as people, as a society, as a species, have nothing better to do than to sit around and post our rants and raves in a sterile environment? I'm guilty too. Here I am adding my own litter. When was the last time any of us went to a demonstration? When was the last time any of us did anything worthwhile to the community? Hell when was the last time anyone that anyone knows anywhere did anything selfless for anyone else? Hell, I can't remember...and I like to think I'm one of those that will give the shirt off my back.

Who are we to sit here and say Bush this, and Bush that, and Republicans this, and Democrats that when KNOWING we ain't gonna do a damn thing about it. Seriously, do any of you reading this vote anymore? I'm registered, but I don't vote. I could say "It wouldn't count anyway." I know it does though. The Electoral collage votes according to the state. Seats in office have been one by as little as a vote, or 1%. Am I just lazy? Probably. But then again, isn't the rest of America?

And that gets me thinking of something else as well. As much I want to be an individual, for every reason that I have a bar code tattooed on my left forearm, I'm just like everyone else. I work to pay bills. I go out and buy stupid **** because I see something on TV about it. Think for a second people. Why do we do what we do?

By the gods and goddesses above...what have we become? Is there any true purpose to our lives anymore? Are we waiting for a change that will never come? I don't know...I wish I did though. I still don't understand why I am writing this. Maybe it was just to take up time until I do my reports. Maybe I need a personal wake up. Maybe someone reading this does. Whatever. I'm probably going to get flamed for this. Who cares. I feel like I got something of my chest. Please feel free to rant your own beef or flame me. It's your time you're using, not mine.

Peace, Love, and Hair grease.

I have to agree with you dude, americans (especially us, i dont know about other countries) are selfish, fat, lazy.

Its true when was the last time one of us spent awhile to actually help out another, for those of you that have latley then very good for you. I sit here in my 1st hour class everyday at 8 am till 8:50 am and i sit here and type on these forums, when i should be doing my work or something obstructive to better myself.

We all grow watching tv believing that one day we will be movie stars and rock gods, but we wont. we go to work and get our pay checks so we can buy **** we dont need. <Tyler Durden>

take EQ for example, its a stupid game that will never benefit us in life that we waste all our time and 15 bucks a month on when we could be working more, or taking care of others or help old people. Damn

Yeah I dont know about you guys but im waiten for change this world is getten boring and i need caffeine, im going to the pop machines.

Good thing I read your explanation Trunks. I was about to jump ya. Instead I will attack the impudence and general lack of reason from psychojester.

Not really a flame, psycho, but it sounds to me like you have some soul searching to do. Personally, I vote in every election. I donate to my local public radio station, donate to the united way, my wife and I sponsor a family at christmas, and I play a little charity golf (ok, so the last one is more selfish than anything. Oh well). I preach minimal government involvement, and I practice it by trying to do my part for the charity circuit.

Why don't you vote? Being disaffected and allowing that to stop you from taking advantage of your most basic duty as an American is the height of arrogance. Bemoaning the fact that you share the tastes of other people is silly and childish.

Perhaps you do need a wake up call. Perhaps it should come in the form of being dropped in to North Korea and forced to live in the manner their government chooses for you to live. Perhaps then you would appreciate the ability to rant aimlessly and go buy the goods you see advertised on TV. Perhaps then you would appreciate the freedom you have to wax philosophically on a message board at 3 AM. Perhaps then you won't bore us with your self indulgent drivel.

Probably not though, eh? Complacence is a ***** to get rid of once it has set in.

/agree with Moebius

Personally my goal is to find at least 10 people to agree to go vote against Bush if I pick them up and drive them to the polls. Got 6 so far.

While I doubt that KY will be a swing state, it is slightly possible. I plan to drive up to Cinncinati and Dayton and hit the streets during the lead up to the election. Ohio is key to Kerry's election.

Getting involved in the political process is not rocket science. Anyone can help in their own capacity and in the way which they choose.

I vote in every election and have since I was able to vote. I volunteer at school. I make strenuous efforts to reform the erronous liberal thinking that goes on at this board by refuting the painfully wrong falacies which crop up on a regular basis.

What more can I do?

Lol, my state is a conservative Mecca if Kerry wins in Arizona he wont need it. But ya voted every election and mostly Republican believe it or not, its just that the current administration has pissed me off so bad that I had to convert.

My boss told me today that no Republican has ever won the White House without taking Ohio, so now I'll be watching to see if this is indeed the case.

I am 18 now and ready to start voting. I have not registered yet, but I plan to very soon. Am I lazy? You bet. Do I lack the drive to do good deeds? Yup. I guess I'm your typical American.

With one subtle difference. I acknowledge that I'm apathetic. I know that I should be out serving my community, but that's a thing for all you people with "movivation". I find that if you leave work for other people to do, they will do it. Of course I say this only in a grand sceme. When doing group projects for a class, I do my share of the work, and most time more than my share.

But in American society in general, if you leave work to be done, somebody else will do it. Why? Now that's the real question. Call me lazy, call me a burden to society, call me what you will. I work hard at what I set my mind to, but "serving my community" is not one of my priorities right now.

Jus' your typical American.

I'm more perplexed at people who'll vote in presidental elections but skip mid-term elections, primaries and things like that where you're more likely to find local issues on the ballot. Don't get me wrong, voting for the president is a good thing, but deciding whether or not to pass a referendum to expand your local grade school probably has more of an immediate effect on you (if only in property taxes) than whether or not the next president wants to buy an aircraft carrier.
