Any of you out there have an ipod? I'm between it and an iRiver iHP 120. Is the bass any better in the new ones? I have a PC and although I love the sleekness of the ipod, I don't just want to toss my $$$ out the window, and I've heard good things about the iRiver.

New job starts on the 8th, and I fully expect the commute to suck ***.

I went to www.neurosaudio.com and got one of them for considerably cheaper than an I-pod. Has FM transmitter, recorder, and a line in for considerably less than an I-Pod. That was before the I-River came out though. I use my Neuros to record quotes and press conferences so it's great for that. It's bigger than an I-Pod, but that's not a huge deal for me. If I had it to do over again, I'd take a hard look at the I-River, but wouldn't buy the I-Pod. They're good quality (except the battery issues) but way too expensive (like all Apple products).

Hehe nope. Well...... not the last time I checked :/

I used to work in radio. Now I work for evil people plotting to take over the world... one Press Conference at a time.

P.S. it's a cool little rig. They've got USB 2.0 support in about a month, so you might want to wait.

I-River is the name of the company (not sure if it's owned by a larger corp). The model is the iHP-120 (for 20GB).

They're fine, but they won't work for me. I have a nice Marantz in the office that I never use (it was probably $1,500 new). Put simply you can't transfer direct TO a computer for editing with a Mini-Disc because Sony is **** about copywrite protection.

Mini-Disc is a great media. Good quality, completely reuseable literally a million times, and pretty flexible size-wise variable size files allow you to go for quality over quantity and so forth).

you could do a raw dump through the digital line, but yeah the x-fer would be tedious..thats too bad, MD was such a great idea. dang MP3s are gonna ruin everything else.

not that I'm complaining...I love my MP3 deck in my car.

I mostly use my neuros for Ogg files and .wma. I'm not a huge fan of the .mp3 format, considering that my wma's are a bit smaller and sound better (to me at least).
