Apperently New mexico legislatures are trying to require the installation of a $1000 alchohol breath tester in every vehicle in the state.

I personally would find that extremely annoying. For one, I rarely drink, and have never been in any drink related altercation. Yet were I to move to new mexico with this law in effect, i would have to breath into a tube every time I wanted to start my car.

Now don't get me wrong, having worked for the the Dept. of transportation and seeing all the safety issues that come to light there, and having been hit by a drunk driver in a car once myself, I am all for safety, but this si rediculous. The law would basically assume guilt until innocence is proven. What if it malfunctioned? Would the information be collected by the government? would my employeers get access to the logs?

I dunno. Discuss.

Started to reply to this, and actually once I got passed seeing it as totally ridculous found it hard accept on the basis of being an infringement of my rights - which it is.

Perhaps they should use it so that anybody ever comvicted of a drink driving offence would have to have one installed in any car thereafter - now that's a better idea.

You can't educate some people - a short story -

Year before last managers were discussing one guy (older) who always drinks heavily at the Xmas party and drives away. Solution, we put a memo out saying, basically that anybody found to be, or convivted of drinking and driving would face instant dismissal (gross misconduct).

Ok so this year, party time rolls around - Mr X says to me "can i drink this year, or do I have to get a taxi again" . Phlaberghasted.

People like that SHOULD have to have a breath test before they can start thier car.

Yes it is a pain in the ***, ya it probibly saves lives, but $1000 and im sure the consumer is fronting the bill.

You should have to pay and have one of those installed if convicted of a DUI though. The DUI laws we have in this contry are a joke.

hmm

don't get me wrong I don't agree with drink driving BUT if I wanted to drink drive (which I don't) I would get a mate to blow in the tube.

Afterwards I would get him to breath in the breathaliser as well ;)

This way the car will unlock and I can hit as many lamp posts as I want.

I can see this now.

"Hey sweetie, why don't you come out to my car and blow something for me."

Buying and selling of alchohol should be illegal anyway. Along with cigerettes.

Ban the crap so our kids can grow up safer and smarter.

Hell, why don't we just outlaw sex, books and dancing and we'll be living Footloose!

Surely, we have learned that "banning" things is not a intelligent solution to problems. Humans are clever...we always find a way to get what we want. How about teaching your children to make educated and sensible decisions instead of blaming the big, bad world?

Oh, we can't make decisions for ourselves. We need the government to do it for us.

/sarcasm off

If you are an example of what happens to a person growing up without alcohol and tobacco, please pass the Jack, and give me a cig!

Riiight, this was the stupidest statement ever. Have you even heard of this thing called prohabition? Yeah, that lasted a long time. All that it accomplished was giving mobsters more money. Since when is banning anything the answer? If you have a problem with these things feel free to go live in an Omish village where you don't have to deal with them.

I will resist the urge to provide you with my latest and greatest ideas for how you can help me take the next step in ridding the world of uptight f'ucktards. I can not however, resist the urge to call you an uptight f'ucktard and point out to you that if you were worth a **** as a parent you probably wouldn't have to worry about your kids growing up safer and smarter. Set a good example, don't beat them with a rolling pin for drawing on the walls, and chances are they might respect you enough to follow your wishes and "just say no." As for telling me whether I can or can't have a beer and a shot when I want to, or whether or not I can buy a pack of smokes if the mood grabs me, take the advice of a much applauded signature here, and play a nice long game of hide and go f'uck yourself.

Sorry all. I really didn't mean to feed the troll.

Bah, one more thing the honest people have to do because of idiots. Then of course the drunks will have a kid or wife or bystander blow in it to start the car, negating the whole thing.

One more car part to repair, and sorry I am late for work but my breathalizer broke, or my Listerine had too much octane.

Damn right - one of the few bills I don't mind paying is my Guinness bill - the one expense that makes me happy.

That and 24 MMO accounts lol

Woody

And as a sidenote - I love going to party's with non-drinkers. eminds me why I don't mind spending money on beer as although I don't need beer to have fun, I need beer to make my friends fun lol.

You stick to your no drinking, no smoking days and you will probably live to be a ripe old age of 140. Without Guinness I would be chalking off every damn minute that passed.

Buying and selling marijuana is illegal, yet it is easily purchased in many primary schools around the country. Kids can get weed easier than they can get booze.

Interestingly enough, I'd been caught a few times by police, driving while obviously high. Only one time did they bother to charge me (with a minor count of possession) and every time, they let me drive away. How often do you think you can get by a sobriety checkpoint with an empty 40 in the passengers seat and beer on your breath? This is just to illustrate that our country's substance regulations are a joke.

I rarely drink. Your prohibition idea is still moronic. It was moronic the first time they tried it.

Just find it funny that industries are using your addiction to make them rich. It would altogether different if we all made our own alchohol or tobacco products, but that isnt the case. These industries are putting addictive materials into their merchandise to keep their products high on the market. You may debate that alchohol isnt necessarily addictive, but I would have to point out the TV ads, Newspaper ads, and Magazine ads that make drinking look like its fun and enjoyable for all. That kind of misrepresentation is what "should" be illegal. Much like the strategically placed addictive chemicals should be "illegal" in tobacco products. I really honestly could care less if you smoke a oak leaf, that is your business. But if someone is making money on making "oak leaves" addictive and cornering the market on it, then that isnt right.

Other points in the thread so far:

So we can now call Anheizer busch(sp?) and Winston the new "Mobsters".

Last I checked, I dont believe the "Kool-Aid,Bible publishing" people put weird addictive chemicals in the bible to get you to believe it or read it.

Thats funny cause the educated and sensible thing to do would be to avoid these items. Ones which you are supporting. hmmm... /ponder. And Im not blaming the big, bad world. Im blaming the industries for poisoning all of us. And Im blaming you for financing them more.

wow, this is fun..

Leapwater do you derive any enjoyment out of life at all?

I don't smoke and drink 5-6 beers per week and maybe a bottle of wine so i wouldn't discribe myself as an adict but frankly your views are more than a little fruity.

now take your Bible, shine it up real nice and shove it up your **** because your talking **** and it's starting to smell up the boards.
