I need help!

Someone sent me some information in EQ via a tell. I keep a log running all the time and did not note the information down thinking I could merely access it later.

Unfortunately my EQlog has been running since november is is larger than any windows application can handle.

Do you know of a nice free windows text viewer than could handle a file over 100MB that I could quickly flick through it and find what I need without taking all day to load on my PC?

/mourn having no Unix
When I used to work with Tru64 I would parse several hundreds megs of data with speed. None of this windows bloat code rubbish!

In the past, I've used the 8.0 version of this file to read extremely large text files: http://www.ultraedit.com I don't remember if they have a a free trial or not. If they dont, elt me know and i'll dig up my key.

You caould also use a splitter, especially since it is a text file:
http://www.softdd.com/filesplt/

If neither of those do the trick, you might be able to read it into a mysql table, parsing spaces as column seperators. Messy, but it might work.

Make sure you make a backup! If those don't work, let me know and We'll try plan B.

Filesplitter will not split unless I register and their registration procedure is quite unprofessional.
Ultraedit cannot handle the file and crashed my PC Smiley: laugh

Any other ideas welcome please Kaolian! Consider this a challenge *grin*

Hmm. How large exactly is this text file, and how much ram do you have on that computer?

Try closing every possible excess program, to free up more ram, then try one of these.

If file size exceeds available ram, it will most likely need to be split to be opened. You might be able to boot into dos mode and pull it that way.

If you ahve microsoft access try doing an inport of the file as a table. The formatting will probably be completely screwed up, but it might work?

If none of that works, depending on the importance of the info and size of the file, perhaps I can try to crack it for you if it comes down to that.
