French taking kickbacks from Saddam?Follow

As if we needed another reason to hate France.

This is interesting.

Quote:
One man on this list is the head of a French-Iraqi friendship association, a middleman between French companies and Iraq since the mid-1980s.

Did he take the money? Yes, he tells NBC News. But he says they were the kinds of kickbacks or commission routinely paid in international commerce. He says the money went to the companies he helped and they, not Saddam, paid him.

Think this had anything to do with them being opposed to the war?

Well, until they uncover something linking the French government directly to it, I wouldn't read too much into it. After all, they also say an American is on the list and no one is saying the Bush administration was buying black market oil from Iraq.

When stuff like this is tossed into the peace loving anti-war crusaders face it takes them some time to come back with a new way to say "You did it first" or "You are hate filled so STFU".

Give it time, you'll see the same rehashed dribble being said in a different way.

France has been a long time partner with Iraq when it comes to oil refinement. They make a lot of their money by purchasing crude, running it through their plants and selling the usable stuff to Europe and the rest of the world. If you take away that supply it's natural that France would get pissed about the events that led to their bread and butter being taken away.

Yeah.. damn hippies.

As I understand it, the government of France had all sorts of contracts, loans, etc with the old Iraqi government. But the linked article doesn't talk about those. It's about a list of other black market deals globally, including some guy in France. There's not much to say "you did it first!" about.

If I'm supposed to go "Oh my god! A government under embargo was was engaging in illegal sales with a private enterprise from another nation!", I'm sorry. Hell, Castro's been getting piles of American dollars from American citizens illegally for decade after decade. Does that count as a "you did it first"? I'd hate to disappoint you and my hippy brothers Smiley: grin

Damn them dirty French, too. Let's go eat some Freedom Fries.

Sacre bleu! Who'd want to kill a French nurse? That's just wrong. Goes double for French maids.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, Madahme. My karma has also gone down a wee bit recently, but I think it's just some vindictive idiot who accidentally wandered in here and got thrashed by more than a few people, now taking what he feels is "revenge" on us regular posters.

Either that or the dirty French. Grrrrr....
