All my office-folk say it was a mess, but I'd like a bipartisan view, since I missed it.

I liked it. It was pithy, innovative and creative!

Just kidding! I thought what I usually think...I wonder he's got on under that?

The man still can't pronouce the word nuclear properly.

His answers to Russert's questions were utterly predictable, rehearsed and repetitive.

It was pretty telling that he did not emphatically state that he never failed to report to his National Guard unit for an extended period of time, but said that he 'served his time' and got an honorable discharge. Russert didn't really press the issue as he should have done.

I've also noticed that unless he's reading from a teleprompter, Georgie hesitates, and says "Ummm" and "Uhhh" a lot. Hardly what one expects from a graduate of Yale and the Harvard School of Business.

The best was when Russert pointed out that during his presidency, unemployment had risen 33%, more than 2 million jobs had been lost (and a couple other embarassing, if not damning economic stats) then asked why people should vote for him in '04. His response.. "Because I've got a plan."

His plan doesn't seem to be working

My favorite part was when Bush's promise of jobs and what year they would be coming up was brought up, and he was told that hasn't happened yet.

Bush said "It's happen-ing.

Lol, good stuff.

Much the same way that Russert's questions were utterly predictable, rehearsed and repetitive?

First of all Time Russert was pulling his punches. While he did ask some tough questions he never followed up on them, allowing Bush to dodge and generalize at will. He kept trying to push Bush into admiting his mistakes, and it only worked on a superficial level.

While Bush seemed tired and a bit scared and confused, his answers were consistant with his worldview. On the Iraq WMD issue, he used the "9/11" technique, pretty much exonerating himself of all past, present and future mistakes with the statement "We are in a war against terror, we were using the best intellegence available." Implying that the CIA messed up, not him. Also note that the war on terror has no forseeable outcome, much like the war on drugs, so the implication was that Bush feels he has a blank check to do whatever he feels is nessesary as long as he is in office without personal responsibilty.

On the economic side Bush continued to press that his tax cuts are fixing the economy. He said that the deficit would be halved in 5 years. While this is semitrue on paper it is revealed as a sham upon doing just a bit of research. For example, the current budget that Bush has just sent to Congress for the year 2004 has $0 set aside for Iraq.

Russert tried to make Bush say he wouldn't lower taxes until the deficit was improved, but Bush wouldn't commit. Russert brought up Bush's vietnam record and Bush responded well, stating that he would release the records if he could find them and that noone should diminish the National Guard'd importance. I see that Bush has followed through and today released some records which showed he was at least paid during the time in question. A rare moment happened when Russert asked him about his Skull and Bones membership at Yale. Bush chuckled and said he couldn't comment.

Bush repeated himself a lot. The gist was "We attacked Iraq because Iraq looked dangerous through the prism of 9-11. We used the best intellegence available, and it was worth it whether Saddam had weapons or no, because he could have built them later and used them, or given them to terrorists."

I think Bush has moved into underdog position for the upcoming election, despite his command of resourses.

Just another way that he manages to dupe the general public into thinking he gives a damn. His FY05 budget only has a 5-year projection. If it went 10 years, like every other budget, you would see the giant steep cliff of a defecit we're going to swandive into... He plans to ask for Iraq $$$ when he sends up the supplemental appropriations request, like he did last time around.

It was foolish to put him on TV at all at this point. I don't know who's calling the shots for his re-election campaign but this just made him look weak and on teh defensive. If you're one of Bushes dozens of handlers, what prompts you to set up that interview? Desperation? You know he's terrible one on one with the press. There's a reason you only let him do eight press confrences during his whole Presidenecy. It definately didn't help him.

What he SHOULD have done was go on Fox News and take softball questions from one of the happy Republican cocksuckers. Hannity, O'Riley, whomever. Then they could not only ask the questions, but answer them too and W. could just nod and say "that's right!"
