Funny how you change over the years.

I had a friend come to visit me this weekend. I knew her when I lived in Europe 8 years ago and we were pretty good friends. Recently, she got the opportunity to come to Canada and live for 2 years. So, she decided to come and see me as soon as she got here.

Great!

Not so great. She drove me crazy this weekend. She was brash, rude, smoked like chimney and, worst of all, talked absolutely non-stop. I mean, I was exhausted listening to her. My b/f was horrified by her. She walked around on our 7000 dollar hardwood floor with muddy boots on. She got hammered on Saturday and puked all over the bathroom. Worst part of the story? She is here for 2 years and is planning to visit a lot.

So, how do I distance myself from someone who thinks we are such great friends? Hmmm?

Be boring as hell. Be the very model of the college girl who has grown up and bought a house in the suburbs with a white picket fence, minivan, black lab and satellite television.

If she's the God awful Eurotrash party girl you make her to be, she'll probably bore of you and gravitate to friends who serve her interests better.

Or not.. just a suggestion.

When she calls to see what you're doing for the weekend tell her you're busy... every time she calls. She'll get the hint eventually.

See, that's just it. I don't want to tell her I'm busy every weekend. I'd feel bad about that. I feel like I've mistakenly implied that we are great friends and thus, she feels like she needs to spend as much of the next 2 years hanging out with me as she can. I mean, 8 years ago, when I was 22 and a beer-drinking crazy woman, she was a fun friend to hang out with. Now though, I am not as interested in things like drinking, sleeping until noon, barfing on myself....

She forced me to see my ex too on Saturday, which sucked giant ***. What an absolute idiot. I wanted to punch him in the face. LOL! So, how YOU doin'?

I'm thinking..... game night!

"What? Well, I can't go out drinking, but we're about to play a game of Scrabble followed by our all-night Risk marathon. Until 10:30! Want to come?"

Tare, just be honest. Let her know that you aren't the gal you used to be, and that you're okay with her coming over but you need her to (whatever). Life's too short, and someday you'll want the days you wasted all back.

You are correct, Miss Flea. I am planning on doing this now, now that I have had some time to think on it. It's not my fault that 8 years have passed. I am going to be honest and just tell her, "you suck"!

Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Smiley: grin

Or, you could send her down to Illinois. Damn, this girl sounds like a one-woman-party! She'll fit into the college life perfectly!

On a serious note, does anyone else find going commando on a lazy Sunday fun? Man, all weekend my roommate was gone, and I was just lettin' em hang free. Felt so liberating...

Sorry for the hijack. /em puts his box cutter away.

You could always just tell her you don't want to hang out with her anymore, because you have matured past the all-night-party, inconsiderate-*****-with-muddy-shoes phase of your life. Of course, that may be too up-front for you polite Canucks, but hey, I don't have that issue. :)

Heheee. Thanks Moe. I'll have to do something. I think it will be of a kinder ilk, but drastic action will be taken. POW!
