Once someone registers the account key off the CD's... well, it's their account now. The only way you can play it is to get the account information from the guy who had it first. Any chance you know this person?
Going to need his Account Name, and Password, then you'll have to switch his billing information with yours, then, you'll have to worry your *** off thinking about whether or not he'll be enough of an *** to steal his account back.
Or, cut your losses and buy my Everquest Cd's! They've uh... never been used.... yeah...

What if I bought a new version of EQ and used that account. Would that activate my account and the expansion packs?

Nope, those cd keys for the expansions belong to his account name.
You'd have to buy EQ Evolutions, that's everything up to LDON IIRC.

Yep, if you buy the game new, it will be no problem. You'll have the CD keys from the new game to start a new account. (Just check the box, ppl have been known to open the box, get the account key, and put the box back on the shelf).
EQ Evolutions will give you everything up to Lost Dungeons of Norrath. Good deal. (sorry if you already knew this, hehe)

Do I need to get a key from an evolution box to activate all the packs or will a regular account do the job as I don't know how I will be able to get an evolution key that hasn't been used?

To activate the whole kit 'n kaboodle you need an Evolutions key. Otherwise, you'll need a seperate Kunark key, Luclin key, Velious key, etc.
Make a friend in the States who's willing to buy a copy of Evolutions and give you the key

Okay at the risk of getting shot here I do have an eq trilogy key you can try if you want - it was a second account trial key which I never used. BUT i did give it to someone before and im not sure if they used it.
Its not the full evolutions but it would get you started if it worked. And no its no iffy it was one of thier attempts to get me so hooked i ran two accounts.
