Heh, that takes on a decidely different meaning here in San Francisco!

Agreed, though...enough of these "distractions"! Looking forward to going to Pacbell- er, SBC Park this season. Call me a traditionalist (You're a traditionalist!) but I hate corporate- named parks...there's no character in baseball anymore...

Along that line...now I gotta take a little to time to familiarize myself with all the new players on the Giants. I'm sick of the revolving doors that baseball teams have become, but I don't forsee it changing anytime soon. I'm bummed we lost Rich Aurellia to Seattle.

Likewise - Opening Day! Play Ball!

oh, and btw... The Yankees SUCK!
(and no, I can't back that up... but they do - so there!)

Me (to my step-son, trying to give him a proper education): ...and above all, every good Indians fan must hate the Yankees!

Chris: Do the Yankee fans also hate the Indians?

Me: No, we're more like a little thorn or mosquito. 'Go away, kid, ya bother me.'

Chris: Then who do the Yankees hate?

Me: The Red Sox - and they've got their number, too!

Ahhh... the anticipation of spring, when a young man's thoughts turn to...

mike, that sounds very familiar. My parents came from Ohio and moved to New York. Due to the fact that my dad loves the Indians, as a rule I could not like the Yankees. So I just gravitated the other way, to Boston Smiley: grin

In truth, Yankees fans really don't hate the Red Sox... I mean its not as if they've actually ever beaten the Yankees at anything, so there's really no reason to hate them. And the fact that we really don't hate the Red Sox just tends to infuriate Sox fans even more.

AH! That's it! It's not hate - it's the total sense of disdain towards everyone! That's what makes the Yankess so "loveable."

(Actually, I've noticed the same type of attitude in many Californians...) (and then, there's the basic "American" attitude towards the rest of the world - "If you ain't US, you ain't s**t).

we dont hate anyone...

we build our team to win a ring.
everyone hates us because we are the most successful at it.

i actually like the red sox until they play the yankees then they are the worst bunch of morons god ever bothered to create.

red sox fans on the other hand are disgusting they are to fanatical they go waaay to far and have taken there yearly asswhoopings to much to heart.

Sticks and stones...

It's easy being forgiving when it's so unbelievably pleasant outside...

(btw - I share your opinions about those folks who live down south - the southerners - you know - LA.)

Also - to set the record straight... I don't hate Yankee fans - they're the most knowledgable baseball fans on the planet - it's the "Yankees" that I hate. Why?

Looking way back, throughout most of the last century, a small market team, through many aches and pains and luck and sweat, finally puts together a really good team - the local fans are ecstatic - then the Yankee owner du jour throws a small fortune into the pot and buys some really good players, quashing the hopes of the newly energized young baseball fans.

BUT - that's baseball - that's part of the appeal of the game, 'cause when we DO beat the Yankees, it FEELS so good!

Maybe I should root for the Yomiuri Giants or Manchester United?
