Go Go Panthers!!

I might even stay up to watch the Final.

One question: is it the same as with every big US sports event: commercial breaks every 15 seconds?

I've got the 3-3 square on this game, wooooohooo!

If the scores for both teams end in threes (like 3-3, 13-3, etc.) in any quarter, I'm 600 American dollars richer.

Go Vinatieri and whoever kicks for Carolina!

Oh, and congrats on winning the game, patsy fans.

Nah, only every 4 or 5 minutes. But these are million dollar commercials, so the breaks suck slightly less.

Why did you buy the team? Or did you decide to strap on a helmet and throw some pads on?

Zel

P.S. Was a hell of a game though.

DYNASTY!!!

Seriously though, Carolina played very well. Not well enough to win, clearly and no one will even remember they were in the game in two years, but they played well.

I heard the Archbishop of Boston was suggesting Vienateri for sainthood :-)

Fun game, Vinateri should be king of New England for the rest of his life. What happened to defenses? This was like a Rams-Colts game after the first quarter.

Delhomme either played the game of his life or is one of the top five big game QB's in the leuge.

The Pats D made a few uncharateristic errors, but don't take anything away from Delhomme. He was right on the money nearly every time.

If that game wasn't just a fluke for Delhomme, this won't the last time we see him in the Superbowl. Either way it was a hell of a game.

Brady on the other hand is definately the person you want to have the ball if the games tied. As soon as Carolina tied it with a minute left, I turned to my brother and said "too much time."

Great game all around. I have to say I DEFINATELY underatted Carolina's passing game. Their highly touted D-Line though either was VASTLY overratted or had a terrible game.

Even this Limey *** stayed up to watch it. Quite exciting, despite my ongoing bewilderment at the rules. Delhomme threw some seriously genius passes, even though his name seems to be Spanish for "The Hommo".

Good game! Shame about the commercial stoppages. You yanks have your sporting priorities mixed up.

Damn uneducated white people.... Smiley: disappointed

If it were Spanish, it would mean "Of the Hommo". 'The' in Spanish is 'el'.

Secondly, it's not Spanish, it's french. Originally spelled "del'homme" or "de l´homme" meaning "of men" or "of man".

Like "Déclaration universelle des droits de l´homme".

Back to the game, I didn't watch it. I'm saving myself for watching Superbowl 49, where the 49ers will win it all.

If they don't, I'll devote my life to putting that fire-hot liquid on their jock-straps like in the movie "Nerds".

Oh, by all means, Pat, be my guest.

I wouldn't have said a word if you said "Seems to be French for 'The ****'"

Just felt you stretched a *bit* too far, I try to stretch linguistics, but I at least keep them in the same language.

I didn't see much of the game at all. Listened to the 4th quarter on the radio, then watched the final 30 seconds. I wonder, Smash, with whom did you have to make a deal for Vinateri to make that last field goal?

That was actually a pretty good game. It was a lot closer then most people thought it would be to. I think Carolina made some minor, yet significant, errors in the 4th quarter that cost them the game though.

First. Even though the points were good for going for a 2 point conversion, they shouldn't have done it. If they hadn't gone for 2 points twice (and failed twice), and the Pats hadn't gone for their 2 points (and succeeded!), it would have been a tied game instead of a loss (2 more points for Carolina, 1 less for NE). Yeah. It's easy to second guess after the fact, but it was a mitake. NE would *never* have gone for two points when trailing by 4 points (which is where the score would have been if Carolina had taken the 2 one point extra points instead). That last field goal would have tied up the game and put us into overtime instead of winning the game for NE.

Second. Why the hell were they calling timeouts when there's 1:50ish left in the last quarter and they're driving for a tying score? They were right in that range where if they don't get a touchdown, they wont have enough time for a second chance anyway, but if they do score and they leave too much time, they give the other team a chance to get a field goal off (which is exactly what happened). Moronic calls. I actually did a double take when watching that game and I saw a timeout called. I assumed it was NE calling timeout to prevent Carolina from running down the clock. I still cant figure out what the hell they were thinking...

And with :04 seconds on the clock why didn't the special teams reciever run the ball out of bounds to stop the clock? The play would continue for Delhomme at the beginning of the next snap even though time would run out. Given that he was making some spectacular passing plays, I'd give him a good chance of completing a Hail Mary or Flea Flicker in one last gamble. Instead the guy tried to run it and got stopped at the the 14 yard line. End of game, end of my $5.

:/

Congradulations Smash and other New Englander's. Must be nice to have your team win the big one.

Lifelong Charger's fan here so you can all point and laugh.

I am glad the AFC is doing better now, but I think that is really a testiment to parity in the league, as a whole.

Great, close game. However, the Pats missed a mid ranged field goal and another was partially blocked. Add to that, Brady gets intercepted in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter when they could have made the lead insurmountable and I think it easily could have been a far, far less interesting game.

I am really happy to see Rodney Harrison (Strong Safety, New England) on the winning side. He and Seau were essentiall let go by the Chargers after last season. (That last Panther's touchdown really looked like it would not have happened if Harrison was in - of course I don't watch much Patriot Football so I could be totally off maybe Harrison would have been on the other side of the field, entirely).

The footing was not great for the game (only watched from mid third quarter on so maybe it was really great initially?). I assume it was played in the dome there in Houston so it would be the new artificial turf? I'm all for replacing astroturf because of the injuries, but if this is the substitute, there is some room for improvement. Further, playing on this kind of turf regularly would seem to me to give a team a unique home team advantage. Any comments from people who's teams play on the stuff regularly? Don't see lots of it out west here.

Finally, the commericals. Yes, we have WAY too many of them. No, they are not going away because the TV networks makes bank on them, and thus the league can charge the TV networks outlandish fees to televise relatively few games.
