Well, my 4ish year old piece of crap tv has finally died. Anyone have any good replacement recommendations? I'm thinking 27 inch max, 19 inch min. I want to get something a bit nicer than the absolute cheapest model, but probably not a LCD panel or anything like that. So, anyone wanna give me tech advice?

And yes I do need a tv so I can keep up on the news.

Sony Trinitron (sp). Say what you want about Sony, they make a damn fine TV. I got a 32 inch flat screen from them and its great. They cost a bit more but in my opinion worth it.

I've never had any problems with my RCAs...in fact, my dad & step-mom still have my 26" inch RCA that I bought back in 1986. Picture is still great.

Currently we're using my wife's 27" inch and it works fine. My newer (i.e., 5 years old, heh) RCA is in storage but was in decent shape - just no room to put it anywhere).

Once we move into a new home and the high cost comes down, we'll be looking into a HDTV Flatscreen...

Mitsubishi makes easily the best tube TV's. Better quality than Sony for less price.

I have a Mitsubishi I bought in 1989 and the thing still rocks my world. I have a Sony from 94, the gx model with the speaker-types ears that is also great. No problems ever.
Stay away from Daewoo.

Alot of companies wont sell mitsubishi tubes though...I agree that they are on Par with the Sony's though. I worked in Sears selling electronics for 6 years... and I would say our best brands were Sony and Panasonic.

Really though, in 19 inch TV's there are not all that many differences...dont get much quality difference until you get into the 27 inch range.

Tube tv's are dirt cheap now.

Aadynn and I must shop at same place :P That is my TV, only thing bad is it's ugly gray and I prefer black. Really kick *** though, has like 5 sets of RCA jacks and when you have a couple of consoles, a digital box, VCR, and DVD, it's real nice.

As for a model that lasts awhile, I bought a 26" (yes 26") Magnavox in 1991 and still have it, gave it to my son for his bed room for Christmas and it still works great! Not too bad either I paid less than $300 for it way back when ;)

I have bought a new tv 3 months ago, and while I was looking at 30+ models simultaneously, the Philips I bought stood out. In fact, the image quality, sharpness and colour blew all the Asian tv's out of the water.

Dutch quality, period.

Just grabbed it today. I ended up with a Toshiba Flat screen (not LCD, just flat glass). I considered the Sony, and was going to get it except for one issue. The one I was looking at didn't have a svhs port, which is one of the things I was looking to get since my old tv didn't have one. They didn't have a panasonic that I liked. This one seems pretty spiffy so far, and it has the Component level color inputs too.
