I am going to be shaking my thing in downtown Chicago tonight. Can you recommend a good restaurant, and a good place to shake my thing after?

Look, lets not argue semantics. I intend to rotate and grind my abdominal and pelvic areas in a rhythmic manner. I think you get the picture.

What in God's name are you doing in Chicago?

Hard to recommend a "good" resturant knowing that you probably won't have reservations on a Saturday night. That said, Carmichael's is a fairly acclaimed steak house (since we were talking steak before). They don't require reservations, but I'd at least try to call ahead and see what the situation is. I mentioned the Signiture Room before in the post Christmas thread and, while I know they do accept walk ins most nights, I'd call ahead there as well. Pricey, too. However, there's a bar on the floor above the dining room that you can go to and get a great view of the city while you drink. Lloyd's Chicago is supposed to be a great bar and dining room, but I have to admit to having never been. Friends were there recently though and spoke well of it.

I'm at a loss on the after-dinner scene for you as I don't do much with the clubs in the city. Or out of the city. The typical "gotta see" bar in the city is probably the Green Mill, oldest jazz bar in the city. Even then, I've been and, while worth going to, it's still a bar. Any other bar I could mention in the city isn't downtown and would probably take you further north than you're looking to go.

It occurs to me that even the Green Mill will drag you north to the Lincoln park area. It's your cab fare

Thanks kindly, will look up the places you mention. My company conducts a lot of its training in Chicago, I am teaching a course here next week. I come to Chicago about once a year.

Let me know if they cover your steak with A1 and your salad with mayno Smiley: wink

If you're there for the week and planning on eating out on a regular basis, I can do some quick asking to see if anyone else has any great ideas. To be honest, I don't get into the city all that often these days with the kid and all and, when I do, we're just as likely to end up in some corner dive bar on the North side as some fancy place downtown.

"We" being me and friends. Not me and my son at a dive bar

Hey, I ain't a damn Fodor's guide Smiley: laugh

There's actually some nice places to eat in St. Charles down by the Fox river. Be damned if I can recall the names though, but I'll get back to you in case you want something besides McD's for the rest of the week.

I have eaten at the Signature before, it does an amazing Sunday brunch. Have also supped many G&Ts at the bar you speak of.

***** it. Just head south and blow your paycheck at the Empress. Joliet riverboat gambling at its finest.. heh.

The above was not meant as actual advice on how to spend your evening. Don't go to Joliet and blame me about it later, I warned you.

Well, we decide eating was cheating, and ended up just getting right royally drunk. Drank champagne at the Signature, then headed over to Rush(?) St and went to the Whiskey Bar, and some club the name of which I forget but it was very cool. Unfortunately, I got way to drunk to smooth talk ladies though. Annoyingly I lost my coat. Brrrr.

Aye, Rush Street. Home of bars aplenty.

Despite your having been there before, I'm going to take credit for the Signature Room idea. You're welcome. Smiley: grin
