I have a yellow lab named Kayla. Just last weekend she ate a whole bottle of Advil left on the counter. Had to take her to the animal clinic all weekend, and even this week for charcoal and fluid junk. Most expensive dog ever, but well worth it -=)

We have a Jack Russell Terrier named, appropriately, Jack. He's very sweet and un-Jack Russell like.

We also have two female ferrets - Rufus and Nola. Extremely sweet little thieves.

I have a cute little Pomeranian named Skeeter (I'm not kidding). He never actually grew bigger than my hand (I have big hands) so I carry him with me everywhere. He also thinks he's a parrot and will sit on my shoulder while I'm on the computer.

I recently had mice in my garage. The little bugger would not be caught by mousetraps, but in the end bit the dirt when I used some chemicals.

I called him Smash =)

I have fish, none of which are currently interesting enough to name (besides, naming a fish causes said fish to die, as soon as you develop an emotional attachment...)

I used to have a giant city destroying mutated yellow aquarium snail, but it has since passed on. /mourn snail.

I currently have three (cats) that are near and dear to my heart.

Jitterbug, named after a Tom Robbins' book, and Tumbleweed and Mardi Gras, littermates and named by my ex husband.

Jitterbug's my oldest, and clearly claims the chair of power, although Tumbleweed thinks she somehow has a hope in hell of taking it. Beta, meet Alpha.

Mardi Gras is a fat little meek thing.

This trio is the most monetarily dear to me set I've ever had, considering it was not too long ago that I spent more money than I had on a cross-country rescue mission.

Goal, you should be ashamed killing mice with chemicals ! They don't have non-injuring traps in the Netherlands ? =(

He's adorable! My grandmother had a sweet little Jack Russell named Snuffy. He always used to try to mount my Newfoundland, Bailey, back in the mid-80s. Sadly, all three have passed on.

I've always been a dog person, but somewhere along the way, cats have taken over my life.

Yes, it's all about cats now. We're like a Brady Bunch family with cats. I brought in Fletch and Flynn, litter mates that I've had since they were born back in '87. Sadly, Fletch died from kidney failure about a month after moving in with my then fiancee/now wife. It's a year later and I still grieve for him.

Flynn is a co-dependent cat with feline dementia (think alzheimers for cats). Yes, he is a handful at times, but he's always been very sweet. He's a bit crankier now in his old age (17). He's been diagnosed with kidney disease and we've had to inject fluids every other night (under the skin, not the vein). It makes him more comfortable. Unfortunately, his condition will only get worse over time.

We just had him into the vets last weekend because he hadn't been looking so great. When the vet said she felt an unsual mass around his stomach, we thought, game over, he's done for. So while the vet was taking xrays of Flynn, me and the wife were prepared to have him put down - unfortunately, the thought of having to say goodbye to Flynn got the tears flowing. However, the vet came back in and said good news, it's not time for him to go yet. Turns out he was backed up (i.e., full of ****). So he's on Metamucil and things are back to normal.

Still, it's only a matter of time (a few months at best) that it will be time to say that final goodbye. I don't care what anyone thinks about pets, but to me they are like my children (granted, our own children would take a higher priority if we had any yet, heh).

That weekend we also had to run up to my wife's sister and hubby's place to let their dog, Rudy, a sweet elderly American Cocker Spaniel out for walks while they were out of town. He's got boat-load of health problems. We could tell that he definitely is diminishing. Sadly, it turns out he passed away Monday in the middle of the night. So the grieving bullet we dodged from Flynn got re-directed to my sister-in-law and her hubby. We're glad we got to have that last little visit with Rudy. Unfortunately, they don't have any other pets so their house felt very empty for them when they came home from work Tuesday night. We're consoling them as we totally understand this heartache.

Anyhoo, then we have my wife's cats: Muffin, Angela and Pepe.
Muffin, like Flynn, is about 17. She hates all other cats so takes up residence in the garage and our bathroom. Or, when the weather's nice, she'll sit on a chair out in the back yard. She has the most exotic looking eyes (my brother-in-law says they are in fact evil eyes). I feel she should have always been a single cat. She sleeps most of the time but we give her as much attention as we can (mainly when one of us is sitting on the throne, heh. Whoops, TMI).

Angela is our 14 year-old princess, co-dependent like Flynn. She lost an eye due to an infection when she was a kitten and one of her ears is a little stiff and bent due to an ear infection before she was given to my wife. Otherwise, she's in good health. I like to call her "Winky" or "Popeye". She and Flynn have a sibling rivalry thing. Unfortunately, their bickering is usually around 5:30am and is used as a signal to have one of us to get up and feed them breakfast. Yes, cats do rule the world...

Pepe is our half-feral 5 year-old youngster. He was born outside in the field behind my mother-in-law's house. He's the sweetest little guy. He hangs around outside a lot with his father, who we call Pappy.

Yes, then there is Pappy. Although we think he is Pepe's father, he could in fact be Pepe's brother. It's hard to say, but he and Pepe are definitely related. Pappy is a round-faced cutie and I've been playing "Cat Whisperer" and feeding him twice a day. As he is full feral, he's a bit skittish yet, but each day he gets more and more comfortable with my feeding him. He's even come into the house while I'm in the garage preparing the cat meals.

As Pappy and Pepe are so tight, we will probably shanghai Pappy when we buy our own house later this year. The vet totally supports this act of cat piracy and will provide us the sedative to put in Pappy's food when the time comes (if needed). Hopefully, my leet "Cat Whisperer" skills will have him become part of our family on his own. Of course, he'll be really pissed at us for neutering him once we get him to the vet's office.

Sorry this was long, but it gave me something to do while killing time at work today.

Err, well, that mouse had a nice dinner, went to sleep peacefully and never woke up. More humane than a <ZZAP> mousetrap, I reckon.

Although, I must admit, I am not a big pro-animal fanatic. Sorry.

One siamese cat named Jet for his speed and color mostly when he was young. He's getting quite old now (not sure of his actual age since his owner didn't even know when we got him about 5 years ago) maybe about 15 or 16. He's probalby going to get sent to the big farm upstairs soon since lately my dad has been having the great pleasure to wake up at him peeing on his bed. My das bed that is.

Feh.

120 gal tank full of various fish

Cat #1 Minx, looks like Mink coat fur (female)
Cat #2 White cat, black spot on head, runt that almost died three times, name is Jinx (male)
Cat #3 Another white cat, actually looks like offspring of above two, but they are fixed. Also looks Siamese-ish, named Sam (female)

Dog #1 Black something or other, part chow, part shepherd? Named Tank because when we found him, he was as wide as he was long. 6 months old weighs near 100lbs already
Dog #2 Hound dog used to hate her, terrible yowling, my 3 year old daughter named her "Shubby" and now she's the best dog we own. She's about 4 months old

All our animals except fish are runts/throwaways/strays

Right now, I am sans pet though I'm thinking about buying a cat since I'm in the house and actually have a little room for a cat to roam. I'm not a big dog person -- I like dogs, but I'm not up to the task of taking care of one.

I've owned several cats in the past, most notable being a three legged barn cat named Tripod. We "rescued" him from the stable where we boarded our horse; rescue meaning that he got to lay around and get petted instead of wandering the barns in the cold. He was a good cat though -- caught more than his share of mice, was always around when you needed a little boost and was patient as hell with anyone, including kids. Couldn't break the "barn cat" spirit in him though and he'd constantly get into fights with neighboring cats and other suburbian fauna. I don't doubt that we dropped at least $3500 on that cat in medical treatment over his 13+ years due to infected bites, cuts, etc. He looked like a fighter: scar over one eye, nocks in his ears, etc.

Back in college I used to own a pair of fire-bellied newts named Behemoth and Leviathan. They had travel in their blood and constantly found ways to escape their ten gallon prision and I'd find them pathethically crawling across the floor, covered in dust and lint. Stupid newts.

You know, I get mocked for this all the time but my only dog died six years ago, and whenever I reminisce about him I still get tears in my eyes. He was a good dog, like family, all that jazz.

Well, people laugh but it is a very real bond of love that you feel for these critter, even though you have to scoop their sh*t and wipe up their puke. Anyway, if the love is real, then the loss is real too.
