Anyone have any thoughts on the prisoners being held in Guantanamo bay?

My personal opinion is that if they are suspected of committing a crime they should be given a fair trial (using U.S. or international law) and if found guilty punished accordingly. However, holding persons without such trial or without charge is essentially an act of kidnapping and is against U.S. and international law.

The U.S. is making a rod for its own back by behaving in this manner. We're supposed to be the "good guys" no? So committing a crime because we think someone else did is a case of "two wrongs not making a right".

Anyway, that's just IMHO.

Allow me to be the first to officially welcome in the boards newest bleeding heart liberal. You may line up on the left with Smash and his ilk.

While you are entitled to your opinion, the same Supreme Court that says you are disagrees with you. Thanks, move along. They are not suspected of commiting a crime. They are enemy combatants, and therefore not subject to U.S. or International criminal laws. They are subject to what ever *** raping we choose to give them in a deep dark hole in the middle of the carribean. It's not kidnapping, its vengeance. Smiley: clown

At any rate, just because you are a pinko, don't let us scare you off. Welcome, as I said before, we tolerate leftists around here. Smiley: grin

is it right to hold a Psychopath without trial because he may next week kill hundreds of people just because he can? let me think about this for a minute.....

while i am not a supporter of the war in Iraq i do understand why these people are being held. If you publicly profess to hate and openly plan to kill another human being, just because his govenment is pissing you off then sorry, lock them up throw away the key and be done with it.

these people are the ones that Mr Bush does have the right to target, he should have stayed out of Iraq IMHO but on this score he is right all the way.

you can't kill these people they just become martyrs but is you isolate them, and remove the root cause of there suporters hatred then they are quickly forgotten and in many cases become the leader of the movement allied to thier former capters <i am thinking Gerry Adams <IRA> Nelson Mandela, both of whom are reformed terrorists.

How reformed is Gerry Adams? I have always thought that given the opportunity he would just as well enjoy sticking a belfast special under the prime minister's desk. Just something about his eyes. my 2cp.
