So what do you think? I know most think we shouldnt be there, but I'm more concerned with the mortar shells found. Do you think the mysterious liquid could be the WMD we have all heard so much about, or do you think it's a set up?

If they are indeed left over from the Iran-Iraq war, that makes them some 15-20 years old. I don't think leaky twenty year old abandoned mortar rounds count as WMDs. Well, they don't to me anyway. They might prove that Iraq once had a chemical weapons program but that's something everyone knows already.

I said it about a week after the war started and I'll say it again. We should have PLANTED WMD in Iraq long, long ago.

And no, most people on this board don't believe that we shouldn't be in Iraq. It's about 50/50 I'd say.

Let me say something as a US servicemember that was over there. Well... ok, I'm Navy, I parked my butt off the coast on fired Tomahawks, but I was close. We've always suspected that the WMD we never found are there, somewhere buried in a hole. We will probably never see and/or hear about them again as the men who knew about it are dead or captured. There is a glimmer of wonder though, now that the Grand Puhba himself is caught, as to whether we will find who he sold them to or where he hid them. I personally don't think we will ever find anything more than a few leaky artillery rounds and maybe a barrel or two of some worthless Russian nerve agent that only makes you twitch.

Actually, it's an old Iraqi tradition, they store Jello™ in old mortar rounds out in the desert. It gives it that "gritty realism" that gelatenous foods often lack.

Sounds like it's blister agent. And while there have been many false positives in the past, this one may be the WMD we knew all along they had. At least I knew. Alot of other people amazingly have forgotten that Saddam once used them on his own people before, which to them logically means he used them all up, and therefore he didn't have any when we invaded.

We'll see.

As a serving member of the military <Royal Navy> it is more on my doorstep than for many of you.
NO NO NO we should never have gone in, yes Sept 11th was horrific and we all mourn for the dead and thier families. But the sooner people in power realise the deep routed hatred of americans by 50% of the worlds population, is mainly due to the heavy handed policies by US govenment and Corporations the better.
I spent 4 months sat of the coast of Syria shadowing ships for the Coallition, and it was probably a total waste of time and resourses, the best and in IMHO only way to prevent another day like 11/7 is to get the hell out and stay the hell out of the Arab world. I am not so stupid to think THAT will ever happen. To much money is involved for that to happen.

That is half the problem really, the greed of US companies has cause possibly irrepairable damage to relations i don't think that the people of america really understand just how much they are blamed for in some places of the world.

as for Gulf War 2 I am half of the opinion that it was purely about oil anyway but time will tell on that matter. and beside i don't get a medal anyways as i was too far away from the action to get that <Dis>honor.

besides the people who deserve it really are the wives and kids of the people who are dying and serving 1000's of miles away from home in a pointless conflict on the behalf of people who do not want them there. <gross generalisation i am sure the kurds are pleased but i think the same people will be waveing flags when the next Blackhawk goes down as when Saddam was found.>

It was just a shame that Tony Blair could not extract himself from Bush's A$$hole long enough for us Brits not to get involved.

1. What do you think IMHO means? (in my honest opinion) Little redundant there don't you think? I think it is in IMHO.

2. 11/7??? What is that? I'm not familiar with the importance of November 7th. Or did you mean July 11th? Or maybe 7-11?

I like 7-11, good chili-dogs.

Skeet does the word 'Goit' mean anything to you because you are one.

for you infomation 11 july is my best friends birthday and because i was trying to be more americanised in my date setting <i.e we in england would put 11/7 for 11th july not 7th november> i got a little screwy with my dates <one being kinda more important to me than the other> so sue me.

of course if you had read my post instead of spell checking it, you might have understood what i was refering too anyway. But then with your extremely limited IQ it was a lot too ask. i was expecting the more mature and intellegent members of the comunity to read it anyway.

sorry man that arguement isn't going to wash, how many somali's did you guy's kill in one day? how many irish people did you condemn to death by supporting the IRA.

It was ok to terrorism to exsist so long as Uncle sam was fine and dandy in his safe secure home, but as soon a they came to your turf suddenly it was ok to start making up Bull$hit reasons to invade countries????

I am not American true, but i love the people and the place i just think that your a little tunnel visioned and cannot expect your oversea's policies to not provoke a reaction.

My cousin lives 4 blocks from ground zero and more importantly 2 of my friends came home in coffins so don't dare try the emotion guilt trip on me

Moron, I didn't spell check your post. You didn't spell IMHO or 11/7 wrong. Why is the IQ the first thing people attack? So I said something about your post that you didn't like, you can explain your self and enlighten me as to what you were trying to say, or be a defensive moron.

Sadly, you did both.

So... Why would you want to prevent another day like your friends birthday?

Sorry, low IQ here. Please explain how getting the USA out of Arab countries is going to prevent another day like 11/7 (your friends birthday)

Why did 9/11 <see got it right this time> happen.....

Because the muslim world hate America because of its interference in the Gulf region, so if you remove yourself, you remove any reason that they would attack you again. Even as a person who loves your country and people i can understand why the Arab world hates you so much, you will never be able to rescue the opinion in the gulf with certain parts of the Muslim world so the only way to resolve the situation is to remove the source.

if you think that bullits will do it i point you to Northern Ireland, 200 years later and still some sections of the comunity hate anything english. why because all that happens when you kill a terrorist is you make them a Martyr and spawn 5 more like him.

it is not a war that you can win, i think bush knows that but the reward of Iraq's oil will make it worth it.

i hope i am wrong but i think in 20 years the american people will lement the day they invaded iraq in the same way the do Vietnam.

(sigh)

I was really trying not to get into a long discussion about....well, about anything, but it seems I just cannot learn.

I come from a country where terrorism was so rampant I actually have memories of ducking bullets on my way home from the store, blackouts and kidnappings were things that happened daily. People lost ears, toes, homes, jobs... It's also a place that has seen the rise and fall of many world powers over thousands of years, with a crappy government and economy, true, but also a rich cultural history and people that live life every day to the fullest. We've learned to adjust emotionally, and we hope and work towards social adjustment in the face of all we have endured as a nation. Terrorism is a fact of life.

I know people from New York that have problems imagining that there are people actually living in Arkansas, so I don't think that before this they worried too much about foreign relations. 9/11 brought to our front door (I say our because I live in the DC area) the possibility that we did not (in my case) and maybe can not outrun extremism, and no country is immune. September 11th was awful, horrible, but it's one in a long line of atrocities that, (should the opinions about American Indians transfer over)will continue to happen as power grows and shifts. No empire is forever, not even ours. That doesn't mean we don't support our troops, mourn our dead, etc. But people have to go on living, and doing the best they can. You make a mental change in gears and go on. I think asking the average American to weigh on on this must be truly overwhelming. It had been a pretty idyllic place to be, until 9/11.

As far as the whole war goes, I think GB senior summed it up best when he said "I will never apologize for the United States. I don't care what the facts are."

Arundhati Roy actually gave a good speech about foreign opinion of the United States, etc, very long, but very illustrative...

Jeebus!

If you told me you meant 9/11 instead of being a defensive dip **** I would have understood what you were saying! Instead you tell me that July 11th is your friends birthday?

That's like me typing
"My neck hurts when I wear Thais, I hate wearing Thais"

Then you typing:

"Care to explain why you are wearing Thais in the first place?"

Then I could either say:

"Ooops, I meant ties"

Or I can be a defensive moron and say something like:

"I'll have you know that even though most Thais are shorter than me, they are still very heavy, and quite a strain on ones neck"

We're not all out to get you, I was genuinely curious as to what you meant by 11/7. Calm down, think about what you are typing, and maybe, just maybe we can have a serious discussion here.

You're right up there with GB senior! No really, Murth, it's great that you can be open-minded. I for one, don't think that the intellectual analysis of a situation has to lead to moral judgement. Doctors don't have to think cancer=Satan, or therapists that violence is all right. It's all about exploring the factors that lead to a particular result.

And if any other country were better than the U.S. right now you better believe I'd hightail it there.

That's alright, just ignore the reports that blister agent mortar shells have been found-- allegedly.

As for getting out and staying out of the Middle East, tarv, I am in complete agreement with you with one caveat: Muslims/Arabs have to simma down nah, revoke violence, accept Israel as a legitimate neighbor, and set oil prices at a reasonable number.

Once those criteria are met I suspect nobody would ever have a reason to go there outside of Tiger Woods to pick up his massive paycheck for showing up at the Dubai Open. I mean really, why on earth would anybody go to visit that sh1thole of a place?
