I'm still sulking from having to give up my badass PT Cruiser, and it occurred to me that I now have a dream car that I could actually afford someday when my job doesn't suck a$$.

I suppose if I had to pick a really outrageous one, I'd say a Prowler, but the PT has actually burrowed its way into the dried apple that passes for my heart.

Dream cars? Outrageous/Affordable?

My outrageous choice is a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Not because they are really expensive really, mostly because once they start breaking down (and they will break down) it's all down hill from there, problem after problem after problem.

One day I'd like a nice Acura, almost bought a really nice 99 Acura a while ago. But I realized I'm poor, and would have to live out of the car to afford the payments.

I'll probably find another car to buy when I actually can get one though, starting up college again, and getting engaged soon, most likely will try to buy a house not too long from now. New car seems very far away.

But hey, I think a hot wife and a nice house, plus a higher college degree will make up for driving a 92 Nissan Sentra.

Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted a Delorian. Even before Back to the Future came out. I remember seeing one parked on the street and thinking it was awesome that it wasn't painted.

However, I'm sickeningly happy with my 1995 Dodge Neon. Maybe because it is the first and only car I've ever bought myself and only the second car I've ever owned. Whenever I have my "win the lotto big" fantasies I imagine not buying a new car, but fixing my Neon. New engine, new tires, new paintjob ... maybe tint the back windows. I would be happy having this car for the rest of my life.

My car was stolen once about two years ago. I was heartbroken. The funny thing is when the police found it the guy had actually started to fix it up! He put oil in it, filled up a low tire, and bought a CD holder for the viser. Should have let him keep it a few more days. Jackass.

I've ridden in a hummer and they are uncomfortable, although gratifyingly huge.

Wow. Lots of sexual innuendos in that sentence. Bully me.

Wait, somebody actually stole your car and was planning on driving it around as his????

Amazing.

I thought the thing to do was steal it, strip it for parts, and sell what you can?

Yes, Skeeter. First off, this is a Dodge Neon. Who steals a Neon? Even the police were amazed. Second, it had California plates in a fairly small town in Oregon. The thief was clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

The police, however, were worse. The thief parked it at a hotel and still had his stuff in the car (coat and house keys). They grabbed the car and managed to not put any effort into getting him. I guess car theft isn't very high on their list of priorities.

My dream car has been a Vector M12 for many many years. Granted I'll probably never see one outside of a website or magazine but it's a nice fantasy.

As for attainable, I'd really like a Toyota Tundra. No, not the new ugly double cab but one with just enough back seat room to fit a child's seat into.

Ok, I want that Barracuda. Painted a different color, for sure, but damn.

Saw one of these in a junk yard once, rusted to ****. I wanted it soooo bad, but my husband (yes, I was married to a man once!) told me it would cost way to much to repair. =/ I cried for days and days, then I divorced his ***.

Unreachable and in all honesty I wouldn't buy it if I could: http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.mv?file=car.mv&num=1726 however, it's fun to *imagine* I might.

I do think it would be fun to have a cute little miata someday, but it's not likely since I want a few kids. Maybe I'll get it for mother's day someday :)

AMG used to make something called a "Sledgehammer" which was essentially an E Class sedan with about 600 HP. That'd do. Alternately Id be happy with the new BMW M5, but all in all I'm pretty driving my midlife crisis car allready.

Edit: On another front, I love driving my wife's car and I hear there's a souped up Japanese version. That'd be my choice for affordable "dreamcar" She drives a Subaru WRX

When I was younger, the Lamborghini used to really do it for me. I even had posters of it in my room.

Now, anything that doesn't take a quart of oil every week is my dream car.

Well I don't know how to drive but if I did I'd want a PT Cruiser, they have that classic car look to them and yet all the modern amenities.

Course I'll never have one unless we win the lottery so I can not only buy it but hire someone to drive it.. my better half wouldn't be caught dead in one.

I'm not really into cars. But if I could have one back that I used to have, it would be my '79 Monte Carlo. It had a small block 305 ci V-8 that the previous owner had supercharged. Oh baby did that thing get up and go. Sadly, I was young and foolish at the time and racked up so many tickets in it that it was eventually impounded by the State Police - just before I had to ship out for several months overseas. When I got back to the states nobody with the State Police seemed to be able to locate my car. I'm guessing my car had a new home with a very happy trooper.

My sister's orange RX-7 was stolen once. The thief just happened to live by the railroad tracks that she and I both used to commute to work, and we both spotted the car in his backyard.

When we went looking for it he had painted it red and had it in his front yard with a for sale sign on it. We asked to look it over, and the 'owner' was happy to oblige. The door and ignition keys had been changed, but the glove box and hatch had not. My sister's keys still worked there, and in the glove box was an orange paint stain where a bottle of touch up paint had spilled.

We called the cops and waited until they got there. Once we presented them with what evidence we had, they called in their auto-lab guys who came in and basically pulled the car apart looking for VIN numbers etc. They were unable to find anything conclusive. The number had been ground off the engine block, and the VIN under the windshield matched the papers that the guy had. So he got to keep my sister's car.

But not for long.

Mysteriously, very late that night the RX-7 burst into flames and was utterly consumed. Arson was suspected.

A true badass move. Put all his clothes in the car, add some sistas and it would be "Waiting to Exhale."
