Kenti, yeah, I'm at work posting on all three comps on the company's T1 line. It helps pass the time as I wait for a call and watch Leno, Conan, and Kimmel.

/sigh

It's slow here tonight.

Jeez... where the hell do you work?? It takes a mandate from God to even turn on the TV where I'm stuck. Security industry is hardcore even on their own employees.

Hospital.

I'm doing EMS work, half my life is spent doing nights, half is days, 7 on, 7 off. So while I wait for a call I post inane crap on about seven different boards, this, Cycle World, and TOT being my primaries.

Nights like tonight I'm bored, until I hit the sack and sleep.

Well, it's not happening tonight unless you guys carry the load. I'm off to get some sleep. I gave it a good try though. Maybe tomorrow?

Since my FFXI disk 1 is corrupted... bad data1.cab file. *growls* I was back at the store trying to find another copy, but they don't have one. Pissed me right off. I'm gonna break 700 post count tonight, and will probably be with you tomorrow after I'm done studying for my A+ exam. For now, I'm off to sleep as well.

That data1.cab error is actually caused by the copy protection. It will read fine from an older cd-rom drive if you have one available. Just copy the whole disk to your HD via that method and install from there. A new disk will return the same error. Is annoying.

Tried copying the CD to my HD. It gets to the last tiny little bit of the CD and then it says that it cannot be copied, Data1.cab has used an illegal MS-DOS function... which is odd since I'm using XP.

New game... have to use old drives?? This doesn't make much sense. I'll pop it into my mom's computer and see what it makes of it. The CD drive in there was new in 99 so that should be old enough right?

Kao, that didn't work.

Lemme describe my plight a little more thoroughly.

The CD will barely read in any drive I place it in. CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or CD-RW. Auto-Run will not run. It takes literally minutes to access what's on the disk, and the setup.exe program will not run when executed directly. Always fails to initialize on both PC's. Can't copy the disk or make an ISO on either machine, and while I can burn a copy of it, the copy works the same way.

Kenti = mad.

I still think its a bad CD. Any other help would be appreciated, but I gotsa go to work now and won't see it until tonight.

Do you know of anywhere where you can get a patcher, like in EQ, and just download the entire game? I'd really like to get playing, and have a friend who's willing to hand over his set of disks... but if I ever have to re-install I = screwed.

OR, if someone could just send me the 691mb Data1.cab file, I would be grateful as well... although I find that unlikely. Its an idea though.
