So I noticed that lots of people were planning on giving up smoking as a new year resolution. Myself included.

Well, when ******* is loosing to ******* Leeds it's really tough for me not to light up. All turned out well, however. Did you see the mystery goal in Chealsea's game?

Six years, two months and 11 days here so far. I only use to get urges anytime my last manager opened her mouth.

I must ask Patrician. Would this also have anything with the new love of your life not liking kissing an ashtray? Smiley: wink Or do you both smoke/are quitting?

She is an ex smoker, apparently used to smoke like a chimney but hasn't smoked for a couple of years. She doesn't mind me smoking, but that is part of the reason I am giving up. Main reason is my chest is ******* and I want to feel healthy again.

Ya, sunken chests and withered lung function will have a wonderfully libidinous effect on a girl...

Does 'thinking about making a New Year's Resolution to work harder at making an attempt to quit smoking count?

GOOD LUCK!

If you've made it 4 days then you have pretty much broken the nicotine addiction.

Now comes the really insidious part: The Habits.

edit-some really nasty typos.

I give up.

Probably quit around February, when a 25-pack of Chesterfield will come close to 5$ due to new Dutch VAT. The phuckers...

I quit sometime back in August I think. I've been a smoker for something like 25 years and will always consider myself such. What can I say, I enjoy smoking. But I had the same problem, my chest was feeling like **** and when you get winded gettin up to answer the phone, its time to stop smokin for a while, step away from the keyboard and get some damn exercise.

I'm sure I will smoke again, but not til I have some lung power back.

Oh no, not $5 a pack!

I assume that's 5 euros as opposed to Guilders. With the soft dollar that's more than I pay in Boston, but by about 20 cents.

Virginia on the other hand! Land of buy one get a carton free cigerettes where the tobaco is still moist half the time when you oepn the pack...mmm...gotta go smoke now.

In BC (Canada) when I quit in the spring of last year they were up to $8 and change. What ever happens to that money I save not buying them though? I should have all kinds of extra cash flying around since my husband and I both quit, oh well I suppose that whole being healthier thing is enough of a bonus.

I've quit 3 different times. It's easy. :)

Seriously, I said I was going to quit for the new year, but like Smash, I might have lasted all of 2 hours. Right now I'm concentrating on cutting back, and that seems to be working pretty good. It's noon here and I've only had 2 today. About to have my 3rd though, hehe.

Well Smash, it will be about 5 US $ in Feb, which is a ridiculous price, even for 25 heavenly Chesterfields.

I'm going to jump on the band wagon. Only been smoking for about two years, but I smoke cloves which I keep hearing are worse for you. The bad part is I do occasionally enjoy it. If I could manage to smoke, say, once a day I'd be set. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work that way. My cousin can do that and I hate her. Hate.

So as soon as I'm out (I have four left) I'm not buying any more. I'm already stressed out just thinking about it. =( And considering I'm already a *****, I can only imagine what this is going to do to my personality. If I suddenly stop posting it's most likely because Merri killed me and buried me in the back yard.

What types of withdrawl symptoms can I expect?

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...

I found that it was a matter of state of mind, I know that sounds trite but that's the way it was for me. The more I expected it to be awful the more stressed out and nasty I got. I figured it was an exercise in futility if I was going to look at it like that and instead of smoking the last 3 cigarettes I just shoved them on top of the fridge - no more tension from the waiting anyway.

Then I ate and chewed gum and ran about like Kojak with a lollipop in my mouth (excellent excuse for lollipops). The first bit was aggravating, you keep thinking about it but if you can find something to take your mind off it it's helpful.

After a week though its all about habit and not withdrawal. I just changed some things that I did - read a book at lunch at work so I wouldn't think about going outside for a smoke etc.

When it comes down to it though that was just me.. everyone is different I think. You honestly do have to want to do it though I can't imagine having made it if I didn't feel like it was time to quit. Hope this is the smallest bit helpful, good luck Smiley: smile
