Asking for a RaiseFollow

Ok..somethings been bothering me for awhile. I've always been a huge advocate of just being nice with Raises in general. It's just a good idea, + you never know when you will need their help in return for something later on. I don't always mind going somewhat out of my way to raise people but I have had a problem lately.

And that's the request itself.

A random /t saying
>> Raise (I-8)
doesn't really motivate me to go raise you. I mean you really show no interest in that I'm going out of my way to help. It also seems intrusive and that 1. you expect that I will always be able to raise you. But it's just short and may not even respond to it.

now if the /t was
>> Hey, can you raise me at <pos> please?
Just taking the 10sec extra time to write out a greeting like this will more then likely at least produce a response from someone.

Just take the time to write out a request that's all.

Well said. It's much easier to get someone to do something for you if you ask respectfully. Remember, just because they can raise does not mean they are obligated to raise you.

If I cannot find anyone to raise a party member within the zone, I will normally shout the following for anyone that may be /anon: {excuse me}{please listen}: {raise} @ (pos), {thank you!}

Seems ok, I hope. oO

Actually things like "/Raise A-245", even "/t Raise A-245, Please"
are somewhat annoying. I mean in 90% of requests I will help but ... can people be a bit more specific... I mean, A-245 is big and there might be 3-5 parties there... . For some reason it always happens in Valkurm and Qufim ^^

This happens to me constantly. I've gotten to the point that I just ignore tells for raises. If I say no, they get ******* if I say yes, they complain that it's taking too long for me to get there, and if I ignore them..... well, they still get ******* but at least I don't have to deal with them. I go and PL friends alot, usually through Kazham, and even when I'm anon I'll have people run up and poke me, followed by a /tell "Raise Plz". It's pretty obvious that I'm busy, but that never stops them. At that point in the game they should just eat a HP anyways, I mean come on! You only loose like, 400 exp. Waiting for a raise and then for weaken will take 10 times as long as just HPing it. And to those who set there HP in Jueno while they lvl in the Dunes, I have no sympathy for you, probably because I also get poked and then a /tell "Warp 2" all the time by those people as well, but that's another story......

At my level (31whm) I wont go out of area for a raise. If they are right next to me, I will surely oblige them.... but otherwise... I wish them well. If I have nothing to lose by going, I will. But long treks that cost funds, or places where I may be killed myself, I think twice. Especially as I refuse any and all compensation for raises.

I completely agree that I am less likely to raise someone who says "(Raise) <pos>". However at the same time I can understand why they do it; they want to make sure that even if I'm a JP I will understand them and possibly help them out.

When I need to ask for a raise I will usually say "(Raise) @ <pos> (please) (Help me out) ^_^". I find that a little face makes people much more receptive. Anyways, what are some of your suggestions on the most polite ways to ask for a raise using the translator? I'm currious to see if I can find a better way to ask.

This is one of the things that is really funny. I dont know anyone that actually admits to being disrespectful, or actually demanding raises, or just a complete jerk, however there are quite a few people out there doing these things. It makes me wonder why everyone knows at least 5 instances where something like this happened.

Personally, I'm very humble with almost everything that takes place in this game. When I ask for a raise, when I need help...when I ask for advice, when I ask for a party, I ALWAYS try and make myself seem below them, because honestly...If Im dead then I messed up, or someone i know messed up...and I'm an extention of them. If Im asking for advice, I don't know something so you could bet the farm that I'm going to act as if their knowledge is the miracle of life. If someone I know is fallen, and i cant raise them...I'm sorrowful and im powerless, so I act as if that person is my savior. Pretty much, I lower myself to someone who is superior than me in rank, or even in some metaphysical way.

So, with that being pains me greatly to get these tells for ANYTHING...

/tell Do you have any money to spare?
/tell Can I have some gil?
/tell I want gil
/tell Raise <pos>
/tell How do you make money?

etc. etc. etc.

Honestly, please...a simple "hello" or "hey" would make my day. I'm not asking anyone to act like me, but at least acknowledge the fact that other people have other things to do, other things on their mind, and theyre not waiting around for YOUR tell. I dont know, I usually think that If i dont know you, you could at least introduce yourself.

With Raises, it would be nice if people were more considerate of others time. Ask if they are busy, and if they would mind raising. Most of the time, I dont mind breaking away from my mindless running around to just spend 150 mp...I really dont mind. But it twists my nipples when I get demands (I know theyre not really demands, but it just comes off that way).

As for translations, I think people should be very upfront, and as clear as they can be. Tell them that you dont speak japanese, and ask them if they are available. I dont know if this site has it, but I know Killingifrit has a wonderful japanese guide for commonly used phrases. Just that can mean the world I would think. Again, if your asking for a raise for ****** up or someone close to you ****** up, or **** happens...but its you asking for a just act as if it is a favor, not a given.

As for straight translations..I usually go with a

<hello!><I dont speak any japanese><I'm sorry><Raise><Please>(money value)@ <pos>. <Please check it><thank you>

but yea...whichever...just be considerate, you know?

Yes Jay, you are a negro that smokes pot that was made in a kettle...

Rofl XD

I am currently leveling my Whm and already have I dealt with getting tell while I am in a party and Anon to join other partys. I usally tell them "no, sorry I am in a party".

But I can imagine what you guys must deal with every time you go through a area. I always ask kindly, and have offered tips if they had to go a little out of the way. If they say no, thats fine too. Whm's have to play the game sometime.

In fact always thank a Whm, they do a lot for us. ^^
