I've been away for a while.

A very long while. Like over a year. As I've said before, I just recently came back to FFXI because I finally have time enough to play. As I'm going along and leveling, I'm starting to get the feel of it again. But there's a lot of stuff that I've missed. Almost none of the people I had played with are online anymore, so I don't have any experienced friends to ask for directions. I need some things explained to me, cause I'm still a noob at this game it seems.

I know kind of get what Dynamis is, but what are things like Assault, Sea, Sky, Nyzul, and Salvage?

How does Besieged work?

What's the difference between KSNM, ZNM, ENM, and BCNM?

What are the different types of PvP?

And lastly, what are the level requirements for all of these?

Yes, it's a lot, and I don't expect any one person to answer all of this. I've only been back for a week and I'm enjoying it, but when someone says "<any above item> is really awesome when you get to it," I dunno what it is. Thanks in advance tho. Feel free to add to the list, if there's something I should know about that I didn't mention. Any help is welcome.

228 posts is a good site, just search for any term/event you're interested in and it'll have a good information page on it.

Besieged takes place in aht urghan whitegate, you have to have done the first couple of aht urghan missions to participate/get rewards from it. Level depends on your job (mages can usually go earlier then melee) but the monsters are high level so if you're not atleast level 65 or so you'll be getting killed a lot.

Any of the xNM are just different notorious monsters or battlefields, the only difference in what you need to enter, KS - kindred seals, Z- zeni points, etc. Wikipedia lists all of these as well.

There's not a lot of PvP in FFXI unless you count claiming popular NM's. Ballista and Brenner are the main types and they're not played by alot of people, atleast on diabolos server. There's also pankration where you can fight your pet monster against others.

Thanks Matt :D

I don't know how I never had the idea to search for a FFXI database, haha. Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time on ffxiclopedia. It's unfortunate that people don't do much PvP on Diabolos, it seems like it would be interesting.

So many things to do in this game.. Seems a bit overwhelming XD

The game has drastically changed from sitting in your mog house for hours on end seeking party or waiting for that 1 event to almost having too many things to do. If you have more than 1 job to gear and actually ENJOY doing a variety of events; you can easily find yourself very pressed for time now adays. Enjoy your new adventure!

That's good to hear. Does anyone do CoP anymore, or rank missions? It seems like the older quests can be hard to get a group for as well, like Eco-Warrior and other events that require a large group.

It varies from event to event from what I've seen, eco-warrior has fallen out of sight primarily due to people not liking level 20 cap events. CoP and rank missions you might have trouble finding random pick up groups, but can try looking for shouts in whitegate or jeuno. Obviously the best strategy is to find a friendly linkshell that is doing the missions or doesn't mind helping you with them.

Most of the larger endgame events still are popular since the drops are mostly just as good as when they were introduced.
