FFXI's end times,Follow

#1 Oct 06 2009 at 9:49 AM Rating: Default
I am sure many of you have noticed the obvious decline of FFXI. It has been happening at a slow steady pace that has staggered through the 7 or so years since it’s release. With the onset of FFXIV in the horizon, the future of FFXI seems to be certain doom when it's spin off hit’s the shelves next year. With the assumed end of service for FFXI, people have begun tuning down FFXI for the most part and this trend can easily be recognized by not only the reduced server populations but also the lack of forum traffic and participation. SE stated, back when FFXIV was announced, that the future of FFXI depended upon the users continued interest and support in the product. That being said, SE also has never “truly” been happy with FFXI even despite it’s steady subscription rate of about 500k strong. It is safe to say that SE has no plans to continue FFXI beyond the full release of FFXIV. Many people agree with this statement which, again, is the cause of the loss of interest in FFXI as a whole. In short SE is working to kill FFXI so that they may focus on FFXIV exclusively. While FFXI service may be condensed in the near future, there is much doubt lingering in just how much longer FFXI can survive with it’s auspicious child in the making.

**** furby, we better go drop all our gear and run around whitegate with a cardboard box that reads: "The End is Near." We will make it our new religion, The Church of xXSephirothCloudXx of Latter-day Gimps. We will take donations but only in the form of fireworks, because if we were to have gil then we might get tempted to buy ********** gear, and god knows SOMEONE has to buy all those tiger rings.

Aetheres, man I always wondered what happened to you, I'm glad you're still around, hopefully doing well. Hit me up when you reactivate, I'm always online but usually AFK unless it's after 11pm est.

It's funny that the OP wall of garbage brought out all my buddies that I don't get to talk to very often. XD

No nevar!

As for the OP, a lot of games claim to have a decline in players but a lot of them are still going strong. To tired to name a few but w/e.

End of the world, etc the sky is falling blah blah blah.

For the last many years, I have seen FFXI community to change (or decline, whatever word you decide to use), I have seen other online community to change as well -- mostly I am from anime fansubbing background, I saw changes there too.

There are pockets of good community in Vana'diel just as in IRC channels or blogs homes of fansubbers. It is all about hanging out the right person.

I myself is ready however to leave MMORPG, the reason is just take too much energy, patience, and time. I simply cannot do it anymore. A while ago there is a FFXIV thread in Immortality's site about people may "move on" or "try". I actually said I would try, but I think it would be better if I pass. There is a thread going on the main forum about Aion. I saw the box of the game in Best Buy yesterday, but I am passing it as well. There is a joke that MMORPG actually save RL bucks. I may be spending more money on booze or airline tickets/gas to visit places and friends.

I've seen a drastic change since I started, although I'm not nearly as "old" (ffxi-wise) as Amanada, and not nearly as "young" as most of my LS members. I fall in that weird in-between category, and there aren't many of us left.

Regardless, everyone's trying to get me to commit to 14, but I honestly don't have it in me to dedicate anything more than a casual (if even that) experience to any other MMO. As much as I enjoy, and have learned from, leading my own LS, it's something that I'll be happy to continue doing until 11 is taken offline, but have no desire to repeat in another game.

I know very few people that started around my time, and are still around; some players from the old days do come back once a while, and may disappear again. Some that did remained around for such a long time, we kind of lost touch with each other -- we moved different path in the game.

There are very little thing I care about any more in the game. I do not want to repeat myself 10-20 times on the same idea. I find myself happier now doing more things that have nothing to do with MMORPG, happier if I only care about chit chat if I log in, or whatever I decide that I wanted to do.

Different people have different taste in how to do things; I do not mind someone do not like how I do things, or do things differently; but anyone can disagree without stepping into my toe or be provocative. Unfortunately, that is not what exactly video gaming culture is either.

Yeah I see your point 100% here. I've often thought about stepping back and playing completely casually, but I still enjoy my LS and I've been blessed with some really cool people to enjoy this game with.

The typical "MMO culture" I find to be mostly immature and self-indulgent, something that I'm not really fond of, so it's nice to be able to play without having to deal with any of that silliness.

Now that I think about it, I can only think of 2 other people that I know started around or before me, that are still actively playing.

The ls I'm in at the moment is mostly just that, really old players that really don't care about dealing with huge bloated ls type drama and crap, but still like to get some events done and get some members some pieces they want for x or y job. Most of us have been in hnmls's in the past, but the atmosphere that surrounds that type of shell just isn't appealing to any of us anymore.

Its a very relaxed environment, and the best part is everyone knows how to do their jobs and everyone is experienced in doing basically every event in the game. So this leads to there being no need for a real head figure, we decide everything just by talking amongst us and all people in the ls care more about having fun than equip so there's never any drama over who got this or that piece.

Granted, this is mostly possible because we keep our numbers low, but it works for us.

i tried aion, and though it wasn nice and fun, it lasted for about 3 weeks. I alwasy felt something was missing. For some of us, maybe most of us ffxi was really our first mmo, I know I was a mmovirgin before playing ff11. So no mmo, ff14 or otherwise will ever compete with the feeilng of.. wtf is a tank, what really is a support job? brds are good? wtf wtf wtf is that???

I knew when i started playing aion exactly what to do.. level grind.. work on crafting... i'm a mage, i knew exactly my place in the pt set up, what boundries i should or could push ... it was new.. and yet not relaly new at all....

So yea, I suspect SE will cave in and make ff14 pretty and uninteresting in the way ww/aion is to ffxi veterns... so enjoy your ff11 times while its around i say!

Final Fantasy XI will only end when Square Enix creates something a thousand times more frustrating. A MMO is only truly great when you're sitting there awake at 4 in the morning mashing buttons with your brain swollen to the size of a pumpkin.

I seriously doubt FFXI will "end" ever. Don't forget that there's still a huge influx of new players who have never touched the game, and players returning from a long leave.

There is a much of an end to Final Fantasy XI as there is to the world in 2012.
