Just wondering what people are up nowadays (and try to stimulate activity... again haha). Busy with RL? Busy with game? There got to have something fun going on O_O.

There used to be ... VERY long time ago in the old days, a LS called AFAlliance (or something like that) -- I think the LS specializes in helping people getting their AF and Genkai done. I am wondering if people in need of assistance of any kind recently^^;

Been busy with activities outside of the game these days, not leaving as much free time to play (which is good, I believe -- it's too easy to get immersed in all the little things to do). Still able to get on for most events and a little duoing BLM here and there, though, and enough farming to cover all those reraise earrings I burn through way too quickly. =P

Busy with RL when economy is down is always not bad, I guess :P I sometimes will pop out to nuke something, so if you see me around, we can for sure team up :P

How about other folks? Any thing sexy, hot, tasty?

Nothing interesting to report, so I'll tell a story.

So, a few salvage runs back, I logged in minutes before our scheduled entry time and found myself rushing just to get there without making anyone wait. As soon as I get to the gate for Zhayolm Remnants I pop on my reraise and just as it lands we entered, I felt good. As we start to go through the first floor I'm anxious for subjobs and magic cells to drop so that I can stop being as big of an mp burden to my mages. Once both cells drop to me I quickly go to my menu screen and use them, then hit my utsu macro only to realize I had never changed my sub back to nin after warping with /blm.

There I was, mnk/blm in all its glory with my 120-odd mp. I quickly hit /anon and went about the run trying not to take hate off our other mnk unless his shadows were down. Hoping and praying nobody would notice that I had an awful lot of mp for a mnk/nin. Finally we gather outside of the zone at the end of the run and after another wonderful no-drop zhayolm run I tell everyone on vent to watch what I can do, and right away cast warp on myself. It took them a second, but once they realized what I meant there were many laughs. Now every time we're gathering to go in there's usually some ribbing aimed at me asking people to check for blm sub.

THE END! :)

Nice, man, I remember you mentioning that lol. Then again, your MNK makes short work of anything regardless of sub... /BLM just makes it a little bit more evil. =P If you'd gotten lots of drops as MNK/BLM though... I know I'd be wondering if that had made the difference. >.>

Speaking of Zhayolm, during one of last week's runs, the strangest thing happened: the 3F Madame used Frog Chorus, and a fraction of a second later, I took massive damage and was dead on the ground. Turns out Chorus had "missed" me, and my all-too-eager shellmates leapt (I know, I know) at the chance to whallop me soundly. They felt really bad about it though, and politely spent the rest of the run laughing their asses off at me. =P

Zhavolum is one of the better drop rate places for Salvage, you have any luck so far there? I have been restarting do Salvage from last month.... after a long break. It feels much fresher now^^ and I met a very nice Japanese player there. It is always great to do events of any type with good people and friends.

I couldn't agree more. I've been doing Salvage with a group of friends for about a year and a half, and it's by far my favorite event, I look forward to it every week, and everyone has a good time (even if I do get a bit stressed during runs lol). I'm not sure I can really say that about any other activity in the game.

After spamming Silver Seas for the past couple months, it was a nice change to switch to Zhayolm for our second pass at it. Our first pass at Zhayolm was really when Salvage's stranglehold on drops broke for us: in a pretty short time frame, we received 2 Enlil's Tiaras, 2 Hikazu Gote, 1 Macha's Pigaches, 1 Deimos's Leggings, and a bunch of Freya's Trousers (4 pairs over 5 runs, if I remember correctly, which nearly clears our list for those). This was also the first zone we started clearing consistently, which I think boosted everyone's confidence and helped refine our strategies/job roles, improving performance in the other zones.

Now with about 30 Silver Seas cards filling up my satchel, we're embarking upon our second pass at the zone, and have been fortunate enough to receive an Enlil's Gambison and a fifth pair of Freya's Trousers so far. Mostly, though, we just get a kick out of the frogs (especially charmga, group photo shots as frogs are cluttering up my hard disk). =P

We tend to rotate zones often, in a week we usually do ssr zhayolm and bhaflau with arrapago being one of the zones we hit the least. Mainly trying not to have people get too bored with repeating one zone too much. But I definitely enjoy salvage more than any other event in-game at the moment. Its nice to not need an alliance to do something of relative difficulty with the possibility of some awesome rewards. And on Fridays, we tend to have "Happy Salvage" where we have a few drinks as we go. Vent gets pretty lively then.

One of these nights we are going to do "Salvage: the drinking game" have things like every time someone passes a cell they needed they have to chug, or anytime someone aggros a mob we didnt need they have to take a shot.

That sounds great lol... I'm sure there were some runs where we wouldn't have made it to the second floor. =P

Rotating through different areas are usually much better imo. That keeps people mind intact for seeing tons of Chigoes with no spiders and mouses that drop nothing. I personally have better luck in Arrapago and Zhavolum than the other areas.

Salvage, when doing with friends, makes it much more fun because you are now playing with people that are fun, and that really help removing the focus from the usually not-too-good drop rates there. There was a BG sig that has a Rampart with a :) face with "Welcome to Bhalfau, we never pop anything." I actually find it very humorous. :P

Since I usually go Salvage early morning or late night, rather than booze and often caffeine. :P I myself is not a big drinker however. I have a lower than average tolerance to booze myself, but sometimes that means I am easier to get to the best part when I do drinkSmiley: sly

Nope...

I'm still in the process of my computer housekeeping and moving, installing , and organizing everything onto my new laptop. It may be months before I have anything new to show.

But when I do, you better be sitting down. ^^

It is always good to see people do things a little bit different and works -- like nuking as Ninja or some other things. That keeps the game play a lot fresher than repeating the same strategy over and over again -- as very often people do.

One thing for sure, I think people do not realize the margin for changes of how to do things is a lot larger than it appears to be... as long as people are willing to accept such margin even exists.

NIN/BLM is really fun. Not as much fun as NIN/RNG with shurikens but who can afford that, at least regularly.

I want caltrops. Just think of the possibilities: Big dynamis pulls that usually cause wipes. Trains. Big groups at events like dynamis who won't stand where you want them to. Obstinate melees. You could place a protective circle of caltrops around the red or white mage in your party of choice so that the ranger at least pays the price for standing on top of the mage...

I'm still on most nights, although a bit later these days since my little fella is over a year now so we play a little before dinner, bath and bedtime. It's a nice relaxation before my second "job" starts lately which is trying to help keep a linkshell alive!!

Finished Captain rank, ToAU missions and Nyzul 100 a little while back which was a very satisfying moment and really enjoyed the SP we had happening. I think we all needed a break after all the time we put in though, but hoping the guys will get back on soon for our next adventures. I know at least Cact got a bit depressed about the whole FF14 thing so he hasn't been inspired to keep advancing his char much. Semi thinking about whether there's any chance of getting all Australian's on one server for FF14 so we don't have to wake up at 5am or stay up until 3am to do any of the bigger offerings if we sign up.

Back up in sky trying to get some Heca for my WAR, and very happy to finally get Homam pants which has inspired me to enjoy Campaign again on PLD when I'm "on call". Also trying to get ZNM happening for some Aurum Sabatons and other goodies, but again the linkshell is really lacking members to get anything moving unfortunately. Scoping for ~2 more members for a Salvage SP based around JP hours and getting my own jobs merited enough to do a good job of it myself. (I know not many people read here as per this thread, but anyone interested, let me know!^^) Similarly, trying to find some members interested in Einherjar (Wed/Sun 21.30 JP) as our group is doing great for wing 1 and 2 (22 regular members only) but can't do Wing3 as we are now.

And despite all the sceptics, I'm quite looking forward to seeing what the new VU brings.

And most importantly for me, getting back into some music again lately which has been awesome, something I realised I've been really missing.

AND!! For anyone who didnt know, Sephknight and Arumichan had a baby recently so they're very happy and proud parents. Of course as always as soon as Seph stops logging on every day his LS breaks, and I'm not sure if he'll want to make Gaialegends v3 this time around which is a bit sad but I'm sure he doesn't care too much right now!!

But yes.. why IS the Cerby forum always so quiet? It can get SCARY over in the General Forum! HELP! Made me venture into the SAM forums (even scarier.. numbers and parses flying left right and centre to milk every drop of DMG you can). Stumbled into the WAR forum where every discussion quickly turns to talking about beer or ladies the second it gets too serious... aah much better!

Congrats to Sephknight and Arumichan. Vedder has also recently became daddy.

However, it is kind of silly the LS breaks when simply LS leader is on a break for a clearly legit reason ><. If I am Daddy Sephknight, I am not sure if I will be able to spend the time to rebuild the LS. IMO, often such LS breaking is preventable if someone else in the LS is willing to pick it up. Frankly, tactics (even "unusual" ones) in the game is not hard to execute, and even leading specific events in the game is not hard (may make you super busy or to need to use pen and pencil with a paper to keep track of things, but that is mostly "tactical" and just keep you busy). The hardest part is always to organize, manage and deal with politics among people when you are outside of actual event.

Frankly, I will have been more happy with the game if things are in the game is strictly tactical issues. And people are only out there to have a fun day -- playing FFXI is nothing more like going out to play softball with friends, a pub to have a drink, or going vs. in Tetris or Soul Calibur IV. Things never however pans out that way.

I try to distant myself from people issues in the game and try to stick with more to "tactical issues" in the game, but often the people problems will somehow find itself near me. The line between "tactical" and people issues in the game are often far more gray now, as somehow "tactical" superiority is often literally prestige (as if it actually matters at all) in the game. And whenever I do feel to actually say something, I am going to **** someone off. There is even people I know in the game that take such difference so personal and to go E-Thug/E-Bully.

Seph is just one of "those" leaders I think - meaning, he knows his stuff, he's good at the game, he's friendly and helpful, leads by example and has that skill to be flexible and make things work in less than ideal circumstance. If Seph's there, you know you're likely going to be successful. By nature of the way he impresses/recruits people, the members are already looking up to him and as a result if he's not logged on, the "magnet" of the LS has gone. Even if he has assigned capable leaders for events, people either won't log onto the LS if he's not on, or won't go to an event until he goes. I tried to explain this to Seph once, but he doesn't realise his leadership style works this way :) I heard the latest Gaia was slightly different, but it still split once he left to have a baby. And yes, I agree Daddy Seph will probably not restart a third time! I definitely had the most fun in Vana'diel with all my old Gaia buddies, and it had nothing to do with our successes trust me ;)

It's interesting seeing how different LS are led, decisions are made and events are organised. I've been in Japanese LS for the last few years now (suits my timezone, I'm studying Japanese and no Australian LS unfortunately!) and tend to find that even if you know your stuff, no-one will listen to you until you've earned respect over TIME, not really based on skill. At least in my current LS, over the last 12 months of it I'd say the leader(s) almost never logs on for events. While some easier/small man events still run (like Limbus), slowly all main goals of the LS have gone by the wayside. This means no matter how much we've recruited, new members don't feel any strong direction (need more members before we "start") and end up going elsewhere. And existing members go find separate event LS. And THEN... we just end up in a loop! Given originally I joined to experience a HNMLS, it hasn't been very rewarding ;) Good thing there's lots of fun people in the LS to keep it entertaining instead!

I really take my (new expansion - still pending!) hat off to people who have got LS's running smoothly in a way that keep people interested for fun reasons instead of just item rewards. End game always complicate things, but I always hear of TT as an example of how things are done well, and systematically (not preferentially) rewards members for helping other members instead of helping themselves. In the end, it helps the individual more anyway to attract that type of member, and I'm sure means more enjoyable online experience overall. On the flipside, knowing a leader is just using members to get their relic sure isn't as satisfying.
