Heh.. A friend of mine suggested to post it on this forum.
You may or may not know me, I'm Tamika, I mostly
play mage jobs and often am making PTs if I level.

2 days ago, I tried to login for my SP. The first password
was no problem, but when I got to the second, I go to
hear it's the wrong one. I tried it several times, not getting
any other result. I couldn't log in at all.

After that, I called PlayOnline 2 times. Since my english
is kinda bad when I have to talk I thought that was the main problem..

Today I let my older brother call (he is the owner of the creditcard
which allows me to play FFXI), we had to give a name, then adress..
then city.. neither the adress nor the city were correct, which is
impossible, I never lived in another city then this one.

It comes down to that I lost Tamika... Just like that.

I'm trying to get advice at what I should do, if anyone
could give advice, that's very appreciated.

1) Did you ever give your password to another person?
2) Do you use Virus/Spyware protection software? And have you scanned your PC lately?
Answer those two question, honestly.

One thing... I think your LS has a website... Ask your LS do they see your character logged on?

1) yes I did, but that was over 2 years ago now I think, if it wasn't more. That person stole all my gil back then, apparently since he was too stupid to know how to change his POL password and just changed his comp password I could regain it quickly and changed password, I never gave it to anyone again, just now though (AFTER I found out I can't login), since it's a great friend of mine, who tried to login for me see if it worked for her, but it didn't for her neither... :(

2) I did find out quite recently I have some virusses on my comp, a friend of mine who works with computers tried to delete them, but that didn't go so well. I have another comp at my dad's place which I was planning to use after he's back from his holiday...

Btw, I've let 2 people of my LS check so far, I also know that not much members of our shell check that site... When a friend of mine posted something concerning the whole LS most found out after I told them 4 days after that :P

I am not sure if you get and get your account back easily, but the proof of the account always goes to the person has the current billing information. Since you are honest enough to say you have your gil stolen before by allowing another person login, I will believe you (for now) that this is not the same thing. Mostly such account "thefts" by allowing another person to login are usually happened in a higher level when the other player that can log in have something more than gil to steal.

There are malware that can steal passwords, and there are known ones that target MMORPG. I will speak frankly that while there may be ways to get your account back, but also ask your friend teach you a little bit about computer security >_< or pick up a Dummy book or commercial computer security software packages. The software are like 80 bucks?

Did you click on any odd links or emails regarding FFXI lately?

unless your pc is highly vunerable so unprotected that is calling out to the hackers like "please come take info off me" otherwise i highly doubt it is. It might be this if you are silly enough to say download a 3rd party program that is not from a legitimate source(how would a 3rd party program be legitimate in the first place :P). Those are the most likely case that someon would be interested enough with your account to actually ***** you over on FF, otherwise, in reality i think hacker wouldn't be too interested in your FF account.

I do think most cases is to do with trusting someone that you shouldn't have trusted. Can you think of anyone that might have been able to guess your password even if you never give it to someone else other than that friend who took your gil?

but then for the solution it hink you should try phoning SE again, tell them you have the CD keys that you registered with (if you still have them..), tell them to verify the card that is paying the account is your bro's card (if the person who screwed you up didn't change it yet, they might have just changed the address information but not the card information), if they can't help you just go more aggressive with them (customer service peopel can sometimes be an A$$ until you threaten to report them :P) you could just try phoning again and again since different peopel pick up the phone, like GMs, some are more friendly than the others

if SE really can't help you on that there's nothing you can do but to say goodbye to your little tamika , good luck :)

There are known viruses and malwares now that does target MMORPG:

http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/wow.shtml

MMORPG is not small business, and RMT is profitable business. And don't get me started about Maury, Takedown, and Bluenu... We all know the KI stories. And don't blame it is all "Chinese GS fault." People make those password stealing malware, hacks and sell them for real bucks.

Yes, I think still majority of such "account theft" is because of giving out the password. But I don't think OP has an account that worth stealing for the gear and gil from another player. But who knows...

From the friend I told you about:

Hi,

I've told Ayten/Tamika about virusses, like scchan said.

We are going to call PlayOnline again today with the serial key('s) and credit card information.

We hope we can get him back!

Thanks for all the advices that you gave us.

Regards,

Maurice AKA THUNDER-Boy (not an user in the game :P)

Self pro-claimed selling gil on KI, and even uses a KI signature that brags about it.

Makes one of the leading NA used for claim and warp hacks. Not sure if he still does, but he even have a website that askes for "donations" in exchange for downloads of his tools.

Brag about using RMT openly on KI, one of the worse e-***** KI braggers.

THIS is why I never DL'ed windower.

I'm not even sure about FRAPs(free version) to be honest.

Frankly, I think if you get the Windower from the original source (whoever that is), I think it is safe. I still do not use it for other reasons (it is officially against the rules to use it, but from what I know how Windowers work, it is undetectable by SE unless you use the other stuff or stupid enough to talk about it in front of a GM or sh out loud in Jeuno or White Gate), and a lot of people use Windower is not because they wanted to minimize the game. Only lazy players will not hit their macro for reporting TP, and heck... standing at a reasonable range to shoot isn't really that hard :P

People who get their password changed are probably given their password to another person, or other FFXI tools (say the ones Maury made) or a other internet malware.

I do use Altana View (model viewer), Rep (Japanese parser and battle/chat logger), and POLUtils. With the exception of Rep (1/2 offline 1/2 online tool but does not involve direct interaction of functioning of the game), all other are offline.

I've tried even more to get Tamika back now. Not with
good results.. but a friend of mine (Oblivion) believes
that my Tamika got switched over to Unicorn, I could
re-use the name Tamika on Cerberus. Meaning either Tamika
got deleted or changed server. I can't safely say yet
that it IS him but he appeared since the 4th of september
on the ffxiah site.
And no, I didn't use any 3rd program tools, at all, never.

I'm thinking about posting a forum on the Unicorn site
if I'm more certain this is MY Tamika.. if I see some stuff
appear that are mine or some stuff that I didn't have but
bought with money.. I can check it out.
I can't go around blaming all 6 Tamika's on all servers..
But the Unicorn one is the only possibly one, since he just
appeared on that server with just a few items as a proof.
