Taking a look back...Follow

Ever think of just taking a step back for a minute, and re-discover your roots? Here is my story...

It was a beautiful sunny day in Sandoria. The birds were singing, and the feeling of spring was in the air.

When I first came upon this wonderful city, I noticed a little boy crying a few feet away from me. I walked up to the boy, and asked him why he was crying. He told me that he was lost, and did not know where his father was. Shocked by this, I assured the boy that I would find his father, and inform him of his whereabouts. He then gave me a vague description of his father, and hugged me. I smiled and comforted him, and told him I would be back very soon.

I then took off, in search of his father. I thought to myself, "My first day as an adventurer, and I'm already helping people! What a great world Vanadiel is". At this moment, chills ran up my spine. It was a great feeling, but i had to stay focused. There was no room for failure. This was a task I had to complete, and quick.

I looked almost everywhere. I could not seem to find him. I then started running towards the last place I didnt check. I came upon the weapons shop. At this point, I looked at so many people prior, that I had forgotten the little boys description. Luckily, as I approached the doors to the shop, I over heard a few residents talking to the shop merchant about his son.

Suddenly, I got this gut feeling. I just had to the take the chance. I opened the doors, and bolted up the stairs. The owner was startled. "Why the rush Mi lady?", the merchant remarked. "I have some information about your son", I replied.

"My son?", the merchant said, a little confused. "Yes", I said. "Your son is all alone, crying in the courtyard". "What??!", the merchant replied, getting very angry. "I told him to stay home untill I was done working. Sigh, I guess children never listen", the merchant said. He quickly closed up shop and went to find his son, having me follow him.

When we entered the courtyard, there he was, still crying, holding onto that glimmer of hope that he would see his father again. The merchant approached his son, with wide open arms. Immediately, his son ran to him, jumping into his arms, hugging him. They were both very happy. I could see the joy in their eyes, with tears trickling down their faces.

"Thankyou so much for finding my son", said the merchant. "I don't know how i will ever repay you, but here, take this. It's not much, I was going to give it to my son, but you will be able to make better use of it."

I thanked the merchant for the fishing rod, but i could not take it. I crouched down and gave it to the little boy. He was so excited, and hugged me, thanking me. I smiled, and then waved goodbye and parted ways...

Adventuring can be wonderful, fun, and exciting. There is nothing wrong with it. However, sometimes, people get so caught up with what they are doing, they forget how they became who they are today. The reason why i shared this story, is because this was my very FIRST experience, and it is the main reason why i am who i am today.

I hope by reading this, I spark interest in others sharing their first experiences. Or atleast, they look back and remember their roots. This is a great community, and we should all give back to each other, and help when we can. Helping others gives the greatest satisfaction, atleast for me. I encourage you all to do so.

Ack! You kept the fishing rod?

yea, you're supposed to give the rod back to the boy so he can go fishing with his friends... also, his father is just a shoppe junkie in the weaponshop, not the owner. Finally, the father was very disappointed in his son and thus the reason he takes the rod from the boy and gives it to you instead. He is a very mean and stern father... so give the boy back his rod so he can have fun. He can't help being skeered when he looses his daddy.

EDIT:
My first quest ever was from the owner of the armor shop. Apparently I had to go to Northern Sandy and turn in an armor order or return some finished armor, or something... can't remember.

The first quest I ever did was for Baren-Moren in Windurst Waters. I had no idea what I was doing, or where I was, and didnt realise that Windurst Waters had 2 maps (I thought the small map I was in at the time while in Ye Olde Hat Shoppe was all of Waters).

Needless to say, Baren-Moren was less than impressed with my advertising skills. Thankfully, he gave me a second chance to redeem myself and earn my hat ^^.
