rant

1.) Why do I always tank in campaign, even as lvl 60 samurai, when there are 500 paladins who fail at getting party invites??? No cures, no flashes, no vokes, nothing but berserk and dances. I hate campaign paladins. I think Attila posted about tanking as his lvl 60 mnk before lulz. Basically, if there isn't that squad of 10 NPCs fighting and tanking the mob you're engaged on, you will pull hate, and you will die.

2.) Fugging mages. Summoners meleeing with staves and whiffing, bards whiffing with joytoys and daggers, white mages aggro'ing things and sitting there on auto-attack while you help them out and kill their mob. I, nor anyone I've talked to, has ever gotten a cure before they died in a campaign battle. You should know that you DO GET EXP FOR CURING PEOPLE.

3.) Wtf cure NPCs?? Why do NPCs only cast Cure 1 on you when you're in red HP? SE is retarded on this one.

4.) Did I mention how useless PLDs are? At least toss raises, YOU GET EXP FOR THAT TOO.

5.) When you get the chat log text that says "So-and-So has begun their approach on the targeted stronghold from the Southeast", don't got looking for mobs Northeast and shout [Monster] [Where?].

Caitsith campaign is a nightmare.

end rant.

I have noticed this stuff myself, which is why when I'm on my pld, I'm constantly tossing out cures and raises. Yes, even if the battle is over. I can't stand ppl that just run to the NPC and warp out after the battle is done when there's dead ppl that they can raise.

Well if you see me on PLD in campaign I am most likely 90% of the time /war.

I find you get more xp/notes by actually tanking.

RDM you're screwed for the most part. I'll usually sub /blu and solo a mob as best I can before 50 others jump on it. I don't run my mobs off the map like some people.

I've been tryin to get some notes to get cobra crackows and also cap out xp on BLM so that's what you'll see me on most of the time right now. I will sleep links off of people and raise, but that's about it.

Haven't campaigned on RNG since WoTG came out. Back in the day when only the JP did it and the best battles were in The Necropolis. Epic fights there. I used to grab the incoming mobs and pull them to the NPC's way down by the lich spawns, let them take them(the trick was to only have aggro hate because NPC's couldn't take hate off a PC.) and then pick them off one at a time. RR was a must. That was only in the first few weeks of campaign battle though.

I will have to say, and take whatever you want out of it, but if you come to campaign expect to do it with the full intention of no support. I always do. I know it sucks at the lower levels, but bring RR and all that jazz.

And about the raises, there's been quite a complaint about that. It's actually one of the least MP efficient things you can do in campaign. SE has even stated they didn't intend people to stand around raising people, in a recent interview, and aren't going to raise the xp gain for it. They plan on introducing more healing and raising NPC's though. >> ??? *arm flail* I still toss 'em out in between fighting, though.

edit: oh ya and I'll help the raise effort after a battle. I HATE gettin caught w/o RR and havin to wait on it after a battle is over. Sometimes I'll even /shout just incase there are some people out of range.

I know how you all feel i have seen it too. Theres nothing funnier then watching the mages DD (which i have no problem with) and not doing there jobs, I mean honestly as my rdm when i campaign i atleast Heal people while fighting its not that far i go /war and i tank stuff as my rdm. and i pass out the heals for hate but for some reason whms just swing swing and cure maybe once in a blue moon if at all. and ppl wonder why we are loosing areas its because noone is working as a team its kinda sad really.

I love campaign.... people that do campaign could use some tweeking.

Pashlow [S] is under beastman control this week and since there are only 5ppl in zone when I arrive I think to myself... what would be a safe way to do some damage as a pld/rdm? I'll flash a trash campaign mob and bring it back to the C.A. and get some points for myself before more ppl arrive. I can easily manage 1 as a pld. Grade school logic I thought. At the C.A. there were two ppl there doing the /bard crap, who cares, don't waste a thought on them. So after 8-9 minutes of noone showing up... ppl start showing up in the zone, walking through my mob to get their tags and running off to get fragged at the tower. As i'm watching my mp slowly deteriorates for the second time after a full 300TP chivalry. In the end I lose the fight all the while asking for a cure from anyone that passes by. Hell, i even tried inviting the /bards for any kind of song buff to last longer. I was only fortunate enough to have a nice person zone in moments after I got dropped to cast raise on me. Whomever you were, thank you!

Talking about teamwork... pffft!

I tank, but if I see mages who are meleeing away watching my HP slowly diminish without so much as a Cure tossed my way, you're on your own. I'm more than capable of lasting on my own for a very long time. People want Paladins to tank in Campaign, which is what they should be doing. But most Paladins are fucking stupid and can't last on their own for more than 45 seconds(with the exception of a few I see running around near Bastok, Hrithmus comes to mind, he's good.) Hence garbage Paladins not tanking.

Put this into perspective. Last night I was in Rolanberry. Three total tanks, myself, a 75 mithra pld/dnc, and a 52 taru pld/war. The mithra watched the taru get fucking mauled by three quadavs and didn't even so much as throw a flash on any of them. Fuck campaign paladins.

I Raise whem I'm on my RDM...I woulda Raised you yesterday afternoon, but I was on my BLM/NIN waiting for Campaign to end so I could tele to N. Gustaberg (S). I shouted for you tho ^_^

I usually tool around on my RDM/DNC cuz my BLM is stil *mumbles incoherently*
and my WHM is not used on my RDM.

I still love Campaign, if only there were more than FOUR people in E. Ronf. to drive back the Orcs! Those damned Imp things and their Multi-Stoneskin and Dispel!

You do realize that NPC healers in the cities can only cast Tier 1 spells? You will get higher tier spells cast on you outside of the city campaigns.

Read your rant a few times and I see nothing about all the /BRD who do nothing but sing songs at the Tag NPC.

While I can sympathize with this, I have to say, wow, you've just had a bad string of luck. It's going to depend on where you go first of all. Secondly, being a PLD in campaign is a lot like being one in a burn party, i.e, people just spam whatever they want, and when they get hit and die they're like "WTF!". Are you really that surprised? If you are, you need to examine yourself before others.

Have you ever BEEN a mage in Campaign? Because I am doing this right now, and I can 100% assure, it's not easy. I do WAY more damage than any of the DD's out there, whiffing away at the mobs, yet I get maybe 1/2 the EXP they do and they're not even doing anything. So you will always see a mage whiffing away at the mob with the DD's because we want EXP as well. Same reason you're there.

Shawn wrote:
3.) Wtf cure NPCs?? Why do NPCs only cast Cure 1 on you when you're in red HP? SE is retarded on this one.

This is going to depend on where you are, how well the nation is doing where you are. If the nation is doing poor, then you're going to get the lowest they can offer. If they're doing well, you'll get the best they can offer.

So I do understand where you're coming up, but, it seems you're expecting a lot more out of Campaign. The main idea of Campaign is what you were expecting, but the players have a tendency of taking the easy way out.

Look at the /BRD's. They're not doing a damn thing, yet for the most part, I don't see anyone complaining, and quite a few joining in on them.

You have to take it for what it is. If you feel you're pulling too much hate, and end up tanking, try toning it down some.

I mainly go as PLD to Campaign, and from what I see in SandyS, there's some good PLD's out there.

Ill raise people constantly as well... believe i raised Magius the other day...

However .... Campaign been very boring for me lately so i havent done as much as i have in the past.

But i agree with Shawn and most others ... PLDs and NINs alike go and just hit on things and watch people get mauled ...

Lulz also gotta love the NPCs casting Cure 4 when you have 90% of your health and Cure 1s when you are 1% from dying lol EPIC

How to survive in campaign ala Cesari the SCH taru way.

1)Find a good PLD
2) Stalk his ass
3) Spam him with tells when you are dying
4) Watch him send tells back going "WHERE ARE YOU OHMIGAAAAWD!" running about all over the place.
5) Die only for your DRG/WHM friend to show up and raise you.
6)Immediately do Accession + Cure IV + NPC without RRing yourself, get hate somehow from that one move and die.
7) See you DRG friend lol at you while PLD is still running about whacking stuff trying to find you.

Endtanis can tell you that is a typical campaign ¬¬

As for the rare times I did it, I love just grabbing a single mob for myself and hacking away on DRG esp those imps =3 The most boring campaigns though are the ones where you stand for 30 mins hitting a tower. ;o;

1. I had the same problem on SAM @ that level. I blame the soboro.

2. By tanking, I tend to get cured. I also stock up on temp items/potions.

3. Pop a giants drink in a group of NPC fairies. You'll get a dozen cure V's.

4. PLDs are great at kiting the NMs to the NPCs!

I did a 2hr campaign in Grauberg last night, got 4100exp. Lots of fun and it was the first campaign that I participated in where all of the "suicide bomber" turtles got whacked before detonating. Good times ^^

The way i see it if your getting raped by mobs then ppl arent helping ya out, I feel that people should make parties and alliances out of campaign. Because then everyone wins because your watching each otheres back and helping one another. A lively Alliance is an XP alliance ya i know that sounded gay -.- but its true Teamwork GO! lol

1. XP earned for curing is said to be capped. Do you care?
2. XP earned for Raise is negligible if you consider the amount of MP needed. Do you care?
3. XP earned for damage dealt is said to be uncapped. I bet you'd care if they changed that.

That being said, why would PLDs and mages care about your HP, so you can earn max XP/tags while they get less? People act like that because SE designed Campaign in a way this is the best approach, even for mages.

If I can perform better as WHM/NIN meleeing than a WHM/BLM curing, why should I play the "regular" way? The support/healing NPCs are usually there anyway.

EXP earned for everything has a cap. Go WHM/NIN I really don't care. But toss out a cure once in a while as you melee. It's not like you can ONLY DD, or ONLY cure, or ONLY raise. WHM/NIN exp is amazing in campaign if you do all 3. I've gone the route of BLU/WHM, SMN/WHM, BLM/WHM, COR/WHM, and yes, I've gone WHM/NIN on another account.

Yeah I posted it lol

Few things.

I agree about mages doing both. After recently acquiring a joytoy, I'm going to finish most of my RDM in Campaign, I started today. I cure, I raise while meleeing, I hit stuff. meh it all works. If I die, as long as someone picks me up when it's over, that's all I can really ask (although the sooner the better)

The curing power of NPCs is based on your cities technology level, which is directly proportional to your controlled territory, so if you're fighting in the city, expect nothing but C1's

Even now, the best xp/notes I ever get is when I go mnk/dnc. taking damage, causing damage, and curing damage all add up to give me monster results everytime. Even if I keep getting mauled, the xp I gain from damage taken omw to death outweighs whatever amount I may lose by dying.

When I was doing Campaign on WHM, I would've slapped anyone who tried to convince me to stay in the backlines. ;P

You need to realize just auto-attacking nets quite a lot of exp. Nevermind all the Hexas I spam. Making mages just stand in the back and letting you have all the fun ain't exactly fair, either. ;D I guess this is why Square added the medic-NPC's.

I did raise others, because yes, it yields fine points, but spending my MP on that alone and resting back to full isn't exactly the most efficient way for a WHM to do Campaign. Personally, I cured & haste'd the person who was tanking the mob I was fighting, and raised people during the lulls in the battle.

Nowadays I do Campaign mostly on Dancer though, since my WHM is pretty much naked.
I just can't wait to get to 74+ and be able to tank properly with the aid of Utsu:Ni. I've tanked some small mobs already, and it really yields a lot more points.

There is a cap to overall XP, when the current medal max XP applies. It's not a cap to specific actions.

Anyway, I have the habit to Haste, Cure, Raise and Enhance when I have the chance (I have a MP pool for a reason). I guess mages that just melee and don't cast magic AT ALL probably don't know how to cast on other people since they have the mob targetted. I'm used to type commands. A lot ^^

I think its funnier when I am tanking a mob in a group of 3 or 4 as War/Dnc.

War/Dnc is pretty self-reliant, but since my home nation is Sandy, I get pretty unlucky with Orcish Counterstance sometimes. Mages who I am tanking the mob for just stand there, and instead of throwing me a cure so that I can keep them alive longer, they refuse to cure me, let me die, and then get owned completely themselves.

Instead of everyone staying alive by helping to keep me alive, we all die because they are retarded.

When I am rdm, I help out as much as I can, but there is only so much one person can do.
