Quick reminder to everyone:
You don't know Paciant.
He's an anonymous character, most likely level 1, in San d'Oria.
He has no history on FFXI-AH.
So if he sends you/has sent you a tell to the extent of:

Paciant>> Qutting FFXI... removed by admin - do not link a site like that again, even as a warning - admin) Enjoy xD
(Parentheses to avoid direct linking to it for accidental clickage)
It's probably safe to assume that:

A.) He doesn't want you to have a magical Notorious Monster radar program.
B.) This is probably a keylogger.
C.) You're not alone. My entire XP party got this tell, as well as a lot of people on my friends list.

I've already GM called them. I encourage you to do the same if you get the tell.

I know some level 20 is going to, though, on their first week playing, and I'm gonna feel like **** if I played even a minute role in not letting them know.

After all, remember casinos?

Remember how often people fell for those? >.> It wasn't a trip to Lower Jeuno without someone screaming in shout about how someone running a casino wouldn't trade them the gil they won.

Dakren, you aren't alone. My entire ls got the same tell. Heck I even had someone that was in the process of doing a bcnm send me a tell asking if I had gotten the same message. ( The person who asked me was someone that I partied with once a very very long time ago so I don't remember them all that well.)

Everyone in my HNM shell that was on got this tell from Paciant. Most people that I do dynamis with got the same tell as well. Deidre made a GM call about it, after he got his and he told me that there was spamming in whitegate about it.

I tried to send a /tell back to the guy who was sending everything out to everyone but he appears to have mastered the /away function so he can't get any incoming /tells.

Do yourself the favour everyone, if you see a /tell with a web address that goes to a .zip or anything else from someone that you don't know, don't click it or go to that site. It isn't worth it.

Update: Go, go, helpful GM staff.
The guy logged off before a GM even got back to me.
But yeah, just for future reference, just don't do it if you're unsure.

If anything, just do what Square-Enix always tells you and don't trust third-party websites unless you know and love them. I'm normally the least serious person like ever, so something this uncharacteristic coming from me is rare.

It's just seeing such a blatant attempt at **** over the majority of the server kinda makes me want to do something, even if it's just a GM call and a post on Allakhazam.

Yea, this isnt the first time it's occured either. There is a funny pic if I can find it of a RMT asking if this person wanted to buy Gold, lol. "YOUR ON THE WRONG GAME" was the response from the guy, D: lol.

Whoever falls for this deserves his/her misery.

Anyway, since I've been totally out of Vana'Diel and did not know GS were changing their approach to THAT (LOL), I was wondering.
- Allakhazam is now owned by the same group that owns IGE. Does that mean Allakhazam should be considered "suspect"?
- I noticed FFXI AH has some sort of achievements system and records information from the characters. Is that info fetched automatically, or it is manual (like gear on Alla, for example)? If it is automatic, should I consider FFXI AH unsafe as well?

ffxiah.com gets that information manually. As in you have to enter the link to you playonline.com/communities profile. That is the only way that ffxiah will know about your job lvls, experience to Maat's cap, gear, missions, etc.

The achievement part of ffxiah I'm not exactly sure as to what it means. It might be something as simple as who is considered a power-seller (think e-bay).

As for alla being owned by the same parent company that owned IGE, I think you are safe there too. Yes there were a lot of websites that had issues with having malicious coding in some of the adverts. My solution is to use the Firefox browser and if a flash ad pops up it has to ask me if I want it to work or not.

So, all in all, ffxiah can't really do anything unless you let them. So if you do not want to register your character there then you don't need to go thru the thing of verifying a character and having to buy a crystal from a Jeuno ah for an exorbitant amount of gil.

And back to the cat tower with me.

My whole party in the dunes got this last night, and my whole party reported it. I'm fairly sure a good chunk of the 48 calls ahead of us were for the same thing as the dunes were buzzing with the ripples of "did you just get this too?"

...really that's a lot of work to /tell that many people, they must sure have a lot of free time on their hands.

Awesome, thanks for the testing. I wanted to download it, but I don't want to take a PC out of commission for long enough to reformat it/reinstall FFXI, to be honest. ; ;
