Wow, Cant believe its been that long since I've last played. So...What have I missed? (asides from the, what, 6 or so addons?, and my home server disappearing?)

Aside from the add-ons, not much.

Most of the radical changes to the game have occurred within the last six months. Everything before that was more of the same old same old.

when i was ready to come back to a MMO a few weeks ago, i debated long and hard on coming back here or going over to XIV. well thanks to Catwho and in part for my own affinity for this game i came back here. well, i have to tell ya because of all the changes and the add ons, this has become one hell of a game. if you decide to come back, you wont be disappointed i think.

Wow. So, Are there still a lot of people at low-levels playing? Cause, that's been one of the major complaints I keep hearing, is that anymore, there's no real low level players to party up with.

Oh, and how is the DRG class now? When I left, I remember people hating on it.

cant say too much about drg because i havent been back that long, but the level sync option helps with low level partying from what i hear.

Very low levels are done solo these days. I solo'd DNC up to 42. That said, you can usually grab a level sync party in Qufim island (level sync allows you to drop a party's level to the level of an individual in the party, so that a group with a 56, a 37, a 45, a 40, a 22, and a 20 can all magically become level 20 for the duration of the party, and earn exp at the level 20's rate.) The next "good" camp is now East Ronfaure [s] at 35, so you may have to sync down to Qufim or solo in the patch between 25-35. Again, it's not so hard - the amount of exp per mob has been increased, and with Fields of Valor giving you an extra few hundred exp an hour and buffs, plus exp rings that increase the amount of exp per mob, you can solo an entire level in an hour if you're really determined.

These days, at level 30 you can pop into Abyssea and do Bastion solo, depending on the job. Anything that can cure can get a few hundred or even a few thousand really easy exp. Level 30+ can alos "chest leech" in Abyssea, although that method is generally employed by folks with multiple 85s that have maxed out merits and have a lot of Abyssean cruor to burn. I ran SCH up from 48 to 85 in about a week that way. I don't recommend it for any job that you don't already have mostly capped skills for, since it can take months to catch skills up if you skip the grind.

Moblin Maze Mongers allows you to avoid the tedium of finding a camp and just sync to a custom crafted maze filled with your choice of monster. MMM's sweet spot is between levels 25-55, since Qufim takes care of 20-25 and you can do other things post easily 55+, such as pink birds at the leypoint.

Level 50+ also has the option of Campaign battle for solo exp, although these days Bastion has taken over as the solo battledfield poison of choice since it gets more exp.

All in all, SE has given us a great many more options for exp. It's still a slow tedious grind to level 30, especially the first time around, but it gets better quickly.

...I...wow...

Last I played, I remember the order was something like Starting City->Dunes->Juneo-> And then some island who's name I cant remember for the life of me after Juneo. Looks like I'm going to have to get someone to re-introduce me to the game once again.

(FYI: Im mainly getting back into it because it was a great stress killer when I was younger, and I kind of want to share one of the only things I can from my past with my Wife.)

Oh...Well then, I feel like a Schmuck now.

I remember getting smacked around like punk in Dunes, Juneo and Qufim, then again, I also remember that there were times people would zone to get away from Gob. Mobs (at Dunes) and anyone who was LFG was pretty much charged with taking down whatever they drug to that area.

everyone remembers those days, especially old school XI players. cant count the number of times ive been chased out of a zone by a goblin mage, only to have poison casted on me and die 3 seconds after i zone. yeah, good times.

Amen to that. I also remember having to do it a few times. Not to mention the feeling I got when I was in a team that could drop one of them when everyone did their stuff right. Man, Those we're the good days.

Oh, I noticed the prices on stuff have GREATLY dropped on Bis. Remember when a Cotten Doublet used to run you in the 5 digits? Man, That makes me REALLY happy.

I think it would give Rog a fit of vapors. Smiley: lol

You still need to zone stuff, but it's usually easier just to spend 10 tabs for a cheap reraise and make sure you die in a safe place since so little exp is lost at those lower levels. The days of zoned MPK, on the other hand, are mostly over. If a monster chases someone else to the zone, the mob will stared at the zone line pitifully for a moment, and then shrug and home point, instead of walking back and aggroing other people.

It's still possible to zone MPK with a NM, however, as I accidentally demonstrated with Old Two Wings one sad day in Garliage Citadel...
