Well, I've played so many MMORPGs. So I thought I would give FFXI for xbox360 a try, this game is really fun, only thing i really dont like is the whole you need to group, I love grouping, just the few days I have been playing, I have yet to find 1 person that wants to group. I guess I'm fine soloing at level 12, problem is, my weaponskills, magic is all pretty much capped at 27, and its getting annoying only killing 1 type of mob then waiting for them to spawn. Anybody have any tips on what to do?

Im a 12 Redmage, tarutaru.

He said he did NOT want to party, Deathsblessing...

Unfortunately, FFXI is designed so it takes teamwork to do pretty much everything in the game that is of any sort of importance.

However, SE recognized the fact that not everyone likes to solo and implemented certain strategies that a player can use to play on their own. There are many different job classes and strategies and ways to play where you can play on your own, though it won't be very effective.

There is only one way, at least that I know of (unless they implemented further ways since then), that you can successfully solo the entire game (or most of it).

Get to level 30 and then become a Beastmaster and make your sub-job a White Mage. Go to the Beastmaster forum on this website and read up on the strategies they have listed there. The Beastmaster job is designed to be self sufficient.

Best of luck.

Ah ok, well yea, go to the Valkurm Dunes and put your party flag up and wait for an invitation. It's the best you can do at that level.

Depended when I think about the dunes. There was a period of about a year or so when I was leveling sub jobs there and sub subs and also some others I was gonna take higher when it seemed that everyone in the game was in the Dunes so there were plenty of parties. Additionally, they were all mostly advanced NA players so they knew what they were doing.

There was only one other time when I remember tons of people being there AND they were quite a few advanced players there. That was when it was released for North America. The problem was that all of the advanced players were JP leveling through their 2nd+ time so they knew what they were doing but didn't want to party with NA.

Gamion, I told you before. Don't be cheesing before you post.

I liked it when I would be leveling the 5th subjob for a main job and a rank 1, no sub job noob would tell me how to play the game right cause the guide he got at game stop said so.

I remember when I started for the very first time back when it came out in NA. A group of us from the LS I was in didn't know what we were doing and were lvling in the Highlands until told to go to Dunes. That's when I first developed my loathing of that place. Was just to crowded and had camps overlapping camps. After like my 3rd time through everyone knew what they were doing and it was actually a pleasant experience. Now that I've been gone for a couple years I have no idea what it's like there and am actually about to go out and get it again and start fresh. I'm a little worried about it lvling but at the same time excited to be coming back after so long. Here's hoping I still remember what I'm doing.

And that's why Buburimu peninsula / Korroloka tunnel (in a few levels) have always been superior... people just don't want to go there.

Keep your flag up (seeking party) and write something in your Search comment box. That tends to make you slightly more trustworthy. Things you may wish to put in the comment: Your tnl (XP remaining until next level), your current Home Point location, etc.

Your chances of getting invite may be hurt since you don't have a subjob currently (I'm assuming).

While you have your flag up, go out and solo (until someone invites you). At level 12, you can continue with EP mobs in the starter zones (Gustaberg, Saruta, Ronfaure). Just mow them down for quick and easy XP.

Try to do some of the Fields of Valor (FoV) pages. They'll give you extra XP, a little bit of gil, and tabs. Once you earn some tabs, you can use them to buy a 1MP/tick Refresh effect (lasts 1 hour). If you can afford it (it helps if your nation controls the Kolshushu region) you can also buy Selbina Milk from the Outpost Vendor. Either/both of these things can go a long way to cut down on your resting time. (Alternatively you can also buy Regen using FoV tabs.)

Save your drops and sell them (make sure to stack things) to AH or NPCs.

Save Beastmen Seals.

Always remember to get Signet before you leave town.

Have fun!

I agree with death, i've always found the dunes fun and amusing.

...as for the party thing, another good idea is to get a linkshell. Since level sync came out alot of people do linkshell parties. Having a LS helps, because you can see if anyone wants to level something low, or just sync down for exp. Good luck with leveling your RDM, enjoy the game!
