I have a story from when i was a newb war.

ive told this story a few times but its worth repeating cause its kinda funny.

my very first party on qufim island i was invited by a very well known, but hated whm named SPRITE.

me and 4 other wars were all doing our nooby best to tank while our whm healed us randomly.

when the first one of us died shortly after we started, our whm explained to us she was 25 and had a raise spell, but it was so spensive to have that we would have to pay her for raises.

we were all brand new to the game back then and none of us knew any better, this was all before the christmas treants were even done.

we all payed hefty sums of gil to our crappy whm who started letting us die like every other fight, and when we all ran out of gil she disbanded and left us.

when i started talking to a few people in town after i took the noob express (homepointed back to town) i learned that it was a cheap spell and no whm was ever ever ever supposed to charge her own pt for raises.....

when will i ever learn......

Probably the worst day/s I had in this game was when I went to unlock Pld in Davoi. I died 5 times as my 30 Rdm (which de-lvl'd the 5th time so I needed to get the xp back) and each death was an HP death because I didn't know about the Reraise scrolls at the CP guys in town lol.

The next was when I tried unlocking Smn. A RL friend and I went hunting the rubies as 2 level 30 Rdms. He got his on the first few kills. I had to wait 4 days of continuous farming to get mine. Then, we went around and got the weather elements. On the way through Rangemont Pass, we got aggro and I died. After we got ice element, we headed to the dunes to wait on the Fire element. While waiting, we encountered an odd person that talked about all kinds of wierd stuff such as his bowel movements and other, rather personal, information. To this day, both my friend and I can't remember his name. :(

The other experience I had was yet another advance job unlock quest. Damn them! Me and the same RL friend were trying to unlock Drk. So, I get to about ~80 mobs or so, and I d/c. I figure "Well since I killed ~80 mobs, it should remember." So, we kill 25 more mobs just to be certain. I go to unlock it and I get denied. So, I had to kill 100 more mobs to just be on the safe side. Man did that blow.

Maybe that's one of the reasons I took Drg to 75. I think it was the only advanced job that I unlocked without a major problem.

i guess this is kinda off topic cause it didnt actually happen to me, but its a funny story anyway so ima tell it.

several years ago i heard a story from a guy in an xp pt about his day prior to the pt he was in at that moment.

he was telling us how his linkshell was in an uproar about some super nm who was killing everyone at the zone to sandy gate, and how his linkshell was shouting for the higher lvls to kill it.

this was back when high lvl players were few and hard to find who spoke english. before the ps2 released i think.

anyway his ls had a dozen lvl 40s and a few 50s and maybe a 60 or 2, and they were all being slaughtered by this super nm orc who spammed hundred fist.

after his ls wiped to this super new nm they were all speculating about its respawn time and prolly the coolest drops ever, when they learned it was the nm orc from the sandy mission... the one who hundred fists you to death, and it had no drops cept maybe a crystal.

his ls had wiped thinking they were gonna get rich and just got dead instead.

he did say there was the largest pile of dead noobs at the gate where the nm was kited to.

every lvl 1-10 who exited looking for rabbits found something very nasty instead.

man i wish i could have seen that, i miss the old mpk days sometimes.

My worst day ever? Oh gosh here is a typical story. One day i was 40 PLD and this was way back in like 2005. I was walking in jugner forest and i saw this group of alot of people and suddenly a crab jumped out of no where and no one was around, King Arthro was free. So it attacked me and it had like half life so i tried to defend myself. a few hits later and trying to 2 hour i fell to the ground. Buddha was defeated by King Arthro. Buddha drops to level 39. I lost all my gear then the others hunting it came by, saw me, laughed, no raise no nothing. I was then called a noob for trying to fight i said i wasnt even fighting it just jumped out and attacked me. In the end some 75 NIN came by got the belt laughed and left. Even though PLD was crazy it took a few days to get 39 back and i had no armor, no shield, not even a sword. whoops. and for days i got laughed at for being stupid to try to take on king Arthro. Opps. at least in the end one day i found the same guy who laughed at me, asked for a raise and i laughed back at him and said gee for not helping me in the forst long ago im going to let you sit there. I laughed at him and left. Crazy story though non the less eh?

Oh man...my worst day ever...

I was a level 40 DRK....camped Spook enough that I finally was able to afford 2 Sniper's rings. So I log in after going drinking with a bunch of friends, so I was a little intoxicated. As I'm running back to my Mog House in Lower Jeuno after checking the AH, I get this tell.

Random>>Hey, I noticed you have 2 Sniper's rings.
Me>>Ya, I finally farmed up enough to afford them.
Random>>Well, I am currently levelling Leathercraft, and I was wondering if you would like one of your rings a +1?
Me>>Oh wow, that would be awesome, thanks!

So I go to trade him my ring, and I watched him walk on over to the AH. So I figure he's just getting another ingredient. Then I see him go on one knee, and by the looks of it, he's logging out. 30 seconds later BAM, he's gone. Goodbye Sniper's Ring.

I did learn a valuable lesson out of it, but hands down that was my worst day ever in FFXI.

Thickets>> Colibri Camp.

Had a fairly fun party, I was tanking as NIN. This was during the time when ToAU came out so it was always very busy. Anyway, another party, with PL's and such parked near to us. After a discussion they agreed to wait 10 minutes so we could get our last member their level.

After a short time, player dings and we say our goodbyes, I run over to the nearest Colibri, and Mijin Gakure, then the fun started. The bird that I used to initiate my journey home then attacked the other members of the party, 2 had warped so that was 3 people left. The party that were waiting said "Call for help!", so they did, some genius then used an AOE spell, so the rather tame single Colibri became 3 colibri and 2 Walking tree type mobs. Things are not looking good, and I am in tears of laughter with my friend, who is dead on the floor. The party who were waiting for the camp are in a real bad way too, and the othe members of the party are not impressed. Then come along the passers by, seeing the CFH mobs they too start "helping". The amount of death was impressive, yet finally the passers by manage to neutralise the situation.

The best bit? One of the passers by R3 me, and I accepted without thinking, so I had to walk back to town anyway XD

Yikes! Interesting to think that looking back at our worst days in FFXI would actually bring entertainment. But that being said, those were some fun stories.

I think for me it was a combination of two events that literally made me quit the game.

Obtaining my Black Belt was one.

I got lucky on an Adamantoise Egg with the help of Hogosha and Krack and Lee, and that was the only piece I didn't have to pay for.

I stalked Arch Dominus's KS99 raids and bought a Behemoth Tongue for 2,000,000 gil. That wasn't too bad.

But the Wyrm Beard... wholy hell.

I was getting out of bed at 4:00 AM to sit at the camps and hope someone would sell me the Beard. I watched some messed up stuff. I watched a level 70 BLM who thought they might level MNK some day get the beard.

I remember being told that a LS would sell me the beard, then watching the NM die, and then waiting and waiting, only to get told that by some mistake the party leader didn't invite me.

All in all, it must have taken 20ish camps before I got a LS to sell me the beard for 8,000,000 gil...

So at this point I was already frustrated with the time sink that was FFXI.

Now I regularly do Pirate Chart fights. I've been after an "Occasionally Attacks X to X times." weapon for a long time. I figured the Mercurial Kris would be the easiest for me to obtain since I wouldn't need to ask for much help from my friends.

Currently I'm guessing I'm somewhere like 0/45 on the drop.

For those that don't know, you have to fish up Bhefhel Marlin on the ferry, then have them gutted by Zaladon in Selbina. There's something like a 1/40 chance you will find a Pirate's Chart or a Brigand's Chart in the belly of the fish.

This particular chart took over 75 Marlin. I believe a boat ride is about 15~20 min, and on a good trip you get 3~5 Marlin.

So 1/75 on the chart took quite a long time. About 1 week of my play time.

Excited, thinking that maybe the amount of effort it took to get the chart would pay off, I get my 2 SMN friends to help me out. The strategy is simple, trade chart to ???, 3 NMs pop, SMN use Ramuh and a Yagudo Drink, then Astral Flow. Mobs promptly die, and you open the treasure chest.

So we get there, SMNs get ready, they pull out their Avatar, Drink a Yag drink, and I trade the chart.

Leeluu gets a red dot over her name and DCs instantly.

We all die, and I burned a week of play time. Not even a legitimate failure, just a disconnect.

That was it for me. I just felt like I wasted a colossal amount of time playing this game and all it was was frustrating. Took me a few months to make it back.

Stupid thing is, I'm still friggin fishing for pirate's charts.

I can remember way back when I was playing on my first char, I accidentally bought a holy breastplate for 500k when they were 50k, my hard earned tele-taxiing gil gone.

Also, being the very last person to go on a soboro run. After that being the only wipe of the run, then everyone HPs after everyone getting one but me. Overall I'm 0/28 on soboro now. I've given up.

I haven't had anyone D/C while doing that fight but we had some weird experiences with it too... and no knives.

We've had astral flows not go off. Ramuh readies judgement bolt x 3 and all that goodness, but only two went off. No "too far" message or anything. And one time iirc all 3 mobs were still alive after two so it's not that the target died.
/Shrug

If you still do it and ever need a SMN for it I'm willing to help (for free, I don't want a kris cut or anything). It's a fun fight

My worst day ever was when I put 7 stacks of fire crystal for 1gil each in the AH ><; I didn't know how the AH works back then, and was everything I had ;.;, I was hoping to buy a new Jugs for my BST (T.T).

Btw, first post I'm not so old in bismark so I appreciate any advice =D.

Truly.

hrm i have so very very many...

most recently, 9 deaths over 2 days to Charybdis, a mob that i have DUO'd many many times for other people. When it is finally my time to get my Joytoy after 5+ years.

back-story: After having seen Lemming solo charby as nin/dnc, i immediately decide to purchase WotG. i open and level dnc to 40. then start camping charby. Now i will say i dont have the super primo gear thats out there, mine isnt horrible, but it could be better. so Sitting there camping, a group of people show up and start asking me "you hear for ToD?" I respond "no, i'm gonna solo". ofcourse i get a few laughs and chuckles and promises of "hell, we might pass it to you just to see you try". Meanwhile one of my friends shows up, a 66Rdm.

he is asking what is going to happen etc. I talk to them for a bit and we have a loose kind of agreement. SO i inform my friend and the rest of the shell that if they claim him and pass him to me, they are to stay away and do nothing. If i claim him and my solo attempt fails miseably, try to kill him.

so after a few hours of sitting there, sure enough charby pops. I aske the group there, what are we going to do, i get no response, so i go grab charby and bring it back and start to solo. 10 secs into fight and charby drops me to like 37hps. i think, well i lasted longer than i thought. but shadows go back up and i start spamming curing waltz II. i manage to keep going. 10 mins later, my buddy says "just tell me when to jump in" i'm like uhh now would be good.

so he jumps in and we start really going to town. my whole LS is scrambling cause they think we are in dire trouble. 45 mins into the fight, charby is at like 75% and my LS starts showing up. Now mind you, at this point, i have been fighting charby for over an hour, 45 mins of which duoing with a 66 RDM.

so they get there, we start chewing charby up, at 1% charby goes into an AOE spamm fest. kills EVERYONE in my group. 2nd group claims and i think one of the mages dropped an AOE and killed charby.

now, the next day, i get claim on charby again with me as nin/dnc, a 75 smn, and 2 RDMs. Must have just been a good day for charby cause he ATE us... repeatedly. i even took a raise, went back to Norg, changed to /war, came back, waited on a LS mate to come as sam, then claimed, died a few more times. Ended up joining up with a group that showed up about 2 hours into this fiasco. He killed them so i end up kiting charby, while weakend, twice... till they get raised and unweakend. then we finally kill the *******, and the two of us who want the sword lot.... I lot 7...7...

9 deaths (of my own) several others died a few more / few less times on a fight i have duo'd numerous times. ****** days.....

ok this was a pretty bad day for me. long time ago when the o-hat was all the rage, i spent a few hundred grand for the pop item and held onto it till my ls did another o-hat run.

we start the night off on a couple victories that were as easy as farming rarabs. then it was my turn to pop haku and get my hat.

i spawned him and followed with a voke (my ls tanked him with plds faceing away from him) and we began a beatdown of this whimpy nm.

before the main fights we would clear away the toneberrys, and call for help on them so no hate was built up.

me and 2 other plds were the tanks for this event. both were good friends of mine and very trustworthy tanks.

neither made mistakes except for this one night.

when we got the nm to about 5%, one of the plds was gonna disengage and go deal with a stray hexeye.

the pld accidently called for help on my haku who was at 5%.

everyone kinda paniced cause we knew if we killed it it wouldnt drop hat.

i had the LS logout and login quickly to drop all hate and i popped 2hr and kited him deep into the cave.

the ls reformed and cleared the area once again in the time it took for haku to return to camp.

i had popped a raise to accept pt invite quickly before i was killed again.

now i was able to get hat again, and they could kill haku now that he had returned to normal.

the 2 pld friends of mine tanked him flawlessly and once again he was taken to 5%.

the other pld decided to disengage and go take care of a stray hexeye this time, but when he tried... he accidently hit call for help just like the other pld had done.

in the confusion this time the ls wiped and my haku got away with a 300k spawn item.

that was the only time i ever saw either of the 2 other tanks make a mistake.

but when they did make mistake... they did it in style.

summary of fight.. a force pop nm was CFH TWICE on same NM.

i would like see someone top that one as far as bad days go.

Well, lets see.. as a level 75 WAR.. these are the gears I remember him wearing during merit party.

Main Weapon: Sapara of Trials
Off-hand: another sword (I don't recall)
Head: Pumpkin Head (sometimes Adaman Barbuta)
Hand: Thick Muffler (could've been af1, I mix him up with another confused WAR whose name is synonomous to bosom)
Body: Hauberk (good)
Legs: War af1 (or barone, i dont remember, i try to forget)
Feet: War af1 (good)
Neck: Shield Pendant
Ear1: Fang Necklace
Ear1: empty
Ring1: soldier's ring
Ring2: empress band

I asked him to reasses his gears, but he was defended by another player that gears are not all that.

Full time gear: TP & WS

He does Circle Blade as his WS the first and only time I partied with him. I think he did 52-60+ damage.

Sageo needs to stop being a diva and just accept others for however they wish to play, even if he has to merit with DD's who parse at 2% total damage.
