Well today I was just playing around and I big 200k on an Ochioudo's kote.. I knew that it was very unlikely I would actually get it...
and well... I did..

So...
Im really happy about it and all, since I've been trying to get one for like a month or more, but at the same time, I feel really bad for the person that sold it, his/her name is Pikatiru.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows him/her, and if she/he is a gillseller or just a nice innocent person who made a bad mistake..

I think Im gonna keep the kote for a while..
but I'm not sure...

People sell it for that much to undercut everyone else so theirs sells first. They knew exactly what they were doing. They took the risk for putting it that low so that's too bad for them. Keep it.

There has been controversy here on the boards about ethical exchange, so I see where you're coming from, but the price was not accidental; he was trying to duck AH fee / undercut. Don't fret, keep the item, fair and square deal.

The guy that sold it will no doubt eat the loss and go camp another one.

Well... the guy /told me today.. hes Japanes so we couldnt understand eachother very well...
anyway..
he kept saying Mistake Mistake and he said he is low on money and he needs it..
I am really going back and forth on this..
It was his fault, not mine, and he put it up for 200k, I bought it, fair and square, the item belongs to me.

On the other hand, it was a mistake, and the morally right thing to do would be to give him back the item, or at least sell it and give him some money from the sales.

But.. I want to keep it, and I have almost no money.. /sigh
I am so confused right now, I am sure I will decide by tommorow..
Maybe I just need to try them out and see if they make a big difference ; ;
but please post your thoughts.. I really need some input.

Seriously, keep em. It's his own fault, it'll teach him to undersell something by that much. You've done nothing wrong at all, so don't fret it. He can't do anything to you, and if he pesters you, just Blist him and be done with it.

Aerwen,

Hiya short stuff^^... Aer, your a good person this I know, as much as I /follow you around and bug you.lol (You know you love it^^).

Think about it this way, if that was you what would you do?

You can either keep it or sell it back to him, either way you can go camp one yourself, or he would have to go get another.. It's not a big thing.

Sioux,
How do you know he was trying to duck AH fee/undercut the price?? You know that 200,000-2,000,000 is just off by 1 "0" and makes a big difference. So it could have been a mistake.

I know that most people do undercut the prise of things to sell them faster, but then why turn around and try to tell the person it was a mistake?

Notice this is what everyone says...Sry but you really cannot make a mistake of a couple 0's these days. I can understand if your putting up 6-7 same items up on ah for the same price and accidently from slamming your buttons you put a price that wasn't intended but lets be honest here....when we put up an item for 2 mil, you certainly don't make a mistake. AND it gives you the tax amount and if you want to accept. You certainly take notice of the tax on a 2 mil item. Keep it and don't believe the guy's bs on his 'mistake'.

Well, I don't. It could have genuinely been a mistake, but Vim covered it pretty well; when you're putting an item up for that much, how could you forget that many zeroes? <.<

Hell, if I put something up that's more than 10k, I'm paying attention.

I wouldn't want to be in Aerweny's shoes right now. ; ; I'm also a fan of the 'hey, can I get this item for 1/10 the price?' tactic. It has yet to work for me, but since I've tried to do it, I find it easy to side with Aerweny. This is a lot like the other thing; it's pretty much up to you, Aerwen, whether to keep the item or not; but just as in the other example, I believe that you wouldn't be in the wrong to keep it.

I don't anyone will think Aerwen would be wrong to keep it. Hell if it was me I would keep it.lol

While it might be true that people should be paying attention when giving something a bazaar price not to often some don't. And yeah it was his fault, and should have corrected the mistake before the item sold.

Aerwen how about you just sell the item and give me the gil..lol j/k.

He messed up, it ain't your fault. If he wants another one let him go camp it, that should teach him a lesson to pay more attention.

Or charge him half of what it goes for on the AH to get it back. You win since you get gil and so does he.
#11 Aug 03 2005 at 10:16 AM Rating: Good
the guy that put the scorpion harness+1 in his bazaar for 15k instead of 15mil im sure was a mistake. but when it comes to auctoinhouse items i dont see them as mistakes, i see them as people trying to not have to pay the fees. a friend told me that she knows a guy that says he always sells everything he puts on auction house for 10%+1gil. he does it to avoid ah fees and has never been busted. im sure when he gets busted and sells an expensive item really cheap he'll send someone a tell that say s {Mistake} {Mistake}

i think you should keep the kote.

If it was me, I'd send him this tell "gomen nasai, anata no machigatta, watashi no Kote" (sorry, but your mistake, my Kote)

Especially as it's something you're gonna use, it's not like you're just gonna relist it for the regular price to make a quick gil boost.

I guess I'm back and forth on this. If I made the mistake, I wouldn't expect the person to get back. Especially with the now double confirmation that is given on the auction house. On the bazaar, I double check my bazaar to make sure that it's right when I put it up there. I dunno which side to go with on this one. On the other hand, I can eat a 1.8 mil loss due to my stupidity more then a 15 million gil loss.

You should keep it, and then search him out, and wear it infront of him, and point and laugh..

but seriously, its up to you. if you feel bad enough to give it back to him, then do it. If you think that you can live with yourself then keep it. Me personally, i would just resell the thing, and then give him a cut of the money.

Hip! I love the sig!

The astral ring dotting the "I" is a nice touch.

/end hijack

Aerwen, either giving him back the kote, which may or may not be a mistake, or keeping it and saying "tough beans"... well neither is an ideal end to this dilemma.

The best suggestion is to sell it and give him a cut... neither of you wins, but neither loses either.

In your shoes, I'd most likely say tough beans. It was listed fair and square. Who's to say it wasn't listed for 1 gil and the guy got caught. I recall a Taru with some astrals being burnt once or twice... I also recall him saying something to the effect of "hahaha, I got burnt. Oh well live and learn. Smoke a doobie."

firestarters rules of thumb.

- if somebody obviously bid and paid tons more than the item goes for give them back the overage.

-if somebody sells an item for obviously less than its worth on the auctionhouse, they probably did it on purpose and didnt expect to get busted, so keep it.

-if somebody puts an item in a bazaar for 15k instead of 15mil, its obviously an honest mistake, give it back to them.

-if somebody tricks you into paying 6,000 gil each for shihei thinking your buying the stack for 6,000 gil, shame on you because a window pops up that says do you really want to buy the shihei for 594,000. while i dont condone this and i do slap people when i see them selling items this way, obviously they are doing it to con people and you wont get your money back.

Keep the kotes Aerweny. You bid on them fair and square. The person who undercut them obviously wanted to save money on AH fees.

Seriously, if it was anyone else, they woulda kept them too. I know I would have, lol. Don't feel bad!

Now hopefully, this person has learned not to undercut so drastically. 2 mil item for 200k? That's just plain stupid. I wouldn't expect anyone to fork over the cash or the item that I bid fairly on.

Enjoy your kotes! I love mine, still using them at level 67, as I use sushi. They're a very nice item. ^.^

Well, I think I've decided to keep them, and if they don't make much of a difference to me, I will give them back for 200k or maybe 300k.
I still do feel bad, and I don't look forward to when he logs on (probably around 1 or 2 AM my time).
Also, I did something that I prolly shouldn't have done when I was explaining to him why I wanted to keep the kotes. I didn't want to sound mean or harsh, so me and my friend put on an "act". I traded her the kotes and she gave me an expensive item as collateral because O. Kotes are like the most expensive item I have ever held on to lol. We both went to where he was and pretended that they were a "gift" to her and she didn't want to give them back because she needed them.
Now I feel bad because I think I made her look bad, even though it was originally her idea.
Anyway, I think I am going to tell him that she gave me them back but I need to use them... it would be the truth, and I know that I probably deserve the guilt that I will suffer after telling him that I will keep them.

Well it's 3 AM right now and Im waiting for him to log on...
I am going to give them back, I might charge half of what it's worth.
I've never had that much money before XD
Anyway, I've thought about it, and the truth is, I wouldn't be able to keep them.
I know that the right thing to do is give them back, at least in my view.
As the Bible says, "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you".
Also, this person probably worked very hard for this item. If I had spent that much time and gotten the item, yes, I would feel overwhelmingly glad if the person gave it back.
And as my bazaar message now reads:
The feeling you get from doing the right thing is more valuable then all the money in the world.
So basically, I know I'm doing the right thing, and that is that.

Props to you.

It takes a big person to defeat greed. It makes me happy that there are some really decent people on our server to make up for our alarmingly large population players who should have been aborted but unfortunately were not.(Yes Aron you are #1 one this list..your mom told me so :)
