Hey there,

I've used this site enough for info I'd thought I'd add something to it that might prove fruitful for us. I craft and paying for supplies can get hefty and I think all crafters can agree, but the primary point is making sure we can sell or use what we craft. I craft woodworking atm and have rank2 in it. If you have a guide and know reciepes for items you want if your willing to take a chance and save some gil send me or other players that may post here supplies and I'll be more than happy to send you back what I make. Oh, an example of how much you could save doing this is EX: material cost for simple bed around 2500, cost of buying one made around 4000 (but I'm not high enough to make beds yet :(. I hope other crafters post here so we can all benefit from them (espeically when I get high enough to craft ninja tools :) Thanks and I hope others read this.

I'll jump in here too. ^^ My primary craft is clothcraft, level 35. High enough to make fishing clothes, but not the +1 results, not quite high enough to make wool gear yet, although I can make linen cloths and wool cloths for gobbiebag I and II. I can also make kaginawa for any ninjas who need them. I'm also a level 32 cook, which means the only thing I can make of any use is insect balls but most fishermen are cooks too. ^^;

ooh fun. Fishing 14. Alchemy 11. Cooking 3. Goldsmithing 3. Leathercraft 1.

I'm a bit of a crafting **** so i spread myself around. I just fish for cash nowadays tho, which i use to fund alchemy and goldsmithing. Im going to start leveling crafting up to 10 soon so i can make bone arrows for a thf or ranger.

I'm a crafting fiend, I rarely do anything BUT craft/fish. And I enjoy helping folks out. I've had to do a bit of revision on my rules as I don't think people TRULY understand how much work it is to be a crafter and are more than willing to take advantage. So...follow these few rules and I'm there to help.

1) Do your OWN research. Yes I've done every craft, NO I don't know every recipe. Nor do I know the cap for every recipe, or if I can actually make it. Nor do I know if I can HQ it. If that information is pertinent...YOU must figure it out. All I'M going to do is combine what you give me.

2) Patience is a virtue. If I'm available AND willing, I will do the combine. If I'm not both, it won't do you any good to keep asking. It will actually hinder your cause. If you annoy me, I will not craft anything for you. By available I mean in a town, with an AH, with nothing else I need to do. By willing I mean, in a town, with an AH, with nothing else I WANT to do.

3) Your supplies, your risk. I will accept nothing but the exact supplies necessary. I will not accept cash in lieu of ingredients, I will not accept multiples of one ingredient in lieu of the correct ingredients. I will not shop for YOUR goods. You will send me the proper supplies including crystals, and I will send you the finished item(s). If I get a HQ, you get a HQ. If I fail, you get any remaining ingredients.

4) In general: It's cheaper to buy an item than to craft it. Before you ask me (or any other crafter) to make you an item, make sure you check the AH first. Then check to be sure it isn't sold on a vendor. As for HQs...multiply the cost of the ingredients by about 10, THEN you know how much it costs to HQ it.

Anyway, those seem like strict rules and all, but believe me, people CONTINUOUSLY attempt to take advantage of me, and I won't put up with it anymore.

Crafts in sig =)

What Grim says is quite true. Some items are cheaper at AH than buying some of the supplies. Make sure you always check all options before going to a crafter. For the moment I'm only rank 2 with a skill of 9 woodworking and yes I will mostlikely lose some items as will almost any other crafter (myself moreso because my lvl is lower.) This is not to say however that its not possible for me to competently craft items. If you need arrows for all up and coming rangers I can make rank 1 arrows like noones business, and from the recent prices in jeuno: bone arrows running about 2k a stack, send a higher crafter a stack of arrowwwood lumber (average 3k or buy lumber at guild (price varies but can be cheaper),) bone arrowheads 200 at anywhere BUT jeuno, and yagudo fletchlings 700gil thats roughly 4 k in supplies there and wind crystals might run you close to 2k thats 6k of materials, but a good crafter can make you 4 stacks of arrows that would have cost you 8k depending on the day of the week (damn economics.) Do the math and you can save sometimes, but you do run a risk you may break even. And always see if the crafter is there and willing to craft for you first, we do have other priorities. Weight your options and look at prices, you can save if you know what to look for, and youll be helping another player. Thanks all for adding to this post.

My crafts are in my sig, but Grim is right, it typcially is cheaper to buy stuff on the AH (and takes less of my time).

Ditto to the last few posts. I am 85 leathercraft and try to farm as much as possible to cut supply costs. I know someone will say that there is an associated cost to farming, so the profit margin is erased. Well, depends on the crafter. I myself love farming and do not put a cost on the time. So those who wanna do the lost time calculations, save it for another thread and let the crafter make that choice.
Id be happy to help also with many of the same rules listed in the previous posts.Im at an area in my craft where it takes other crafted items to make the next skillup. Example: coeurl gear into ogre gear or X mantle into Y mantle. The next 5 lvls are gunna kill me. If I can be of service, send a tell.

I think a good idea would be to get together a Crafting linkshell.

I assure you there are some out there, but we are not in one, or we would not be posting this, so we can make our own.

My craft skills, errr, suck nutz ATM, but they are improving and I have no problems with sharing materials, my LS does it all the time.

I happen to have an LS lying around (My old one which I left due to immature flirting). We cannot name it anything cool, but it would save 8k. Just a thought.

85 leathercraft? Wow, impressive. How high does your craft have to be to yeild Winged Boots?

I think the LS is a good idea. I am working on cooking and clothcraft simultaneously so they are going a little slower then usual but I just couldn't decide which I liked more. Anyway, I haven't gotten too far yet but my levels are in my sig.

I think there is a crafting Linkshell on Bismarck called "HighQuality" I think some of them even post here from time to time. I would join, but I am a one LS type of person, I don't understand how some people can have 4 and 5 LSs.

Yo Trizz,

Winged boots are around 89 if I remember correctly. So its possible. Ive had many ask to do it for them when I get there. The funny thing is, they always say" cool, when you get to 89 can you make me a winged boots+1?") That just cracks me up everytime, like I can control HQ whenever I want. Id be happy to do what I can, just send a tell.

Lol...that's what always makes me laugh too, people who think that I being a craftsman am in touch with the HQ +1 +2 fairy and I can summon a HQ whenever I want.

"Tweed, can you make me a Heko Obi +1 for my noob please, what do you need a grass thread and 2 cotton cloths?"

Tweedius synthesized a heko obi.

"Dood, wtf, why didn't you +1 it?"

(This is what lead me to stop making basic things for people in my LS btw).

Yes there is a crafting LS called HighQuality, and I am the shell holder =)

Many folks are like Tweed though, they just don't want multiple pearls and so only equip HQ when they have a question and leave immediately after. Which means only 1-2 people are ever on the pearl. A crafting LS is a nice idea, but it just doesn't work out so good in practice. Not many full-time crafters so it's doomed to be mostly empty most of the time much to my chagrin.

Cool thank you. I will be assured to wait for your lvl to rise (and the +1 question is pretty dumb by whomever is asking it).

I would have a heart attack if I saw.....

Your crystal broke.
Leaping Boots have been lost.

And im like WTF, thats like lvl 15 craft or so to make. When I was doing coeurl Cesti,(lvl 70 I think) I had 3 ubers for Torama cesti and I was like 2 lvls below the item. go figure.

Wow, I just asked a Japanese Woodworker (98) to craft me a Nymph Shield from a Fairie sheild, he +1ed it! I payed 48k for the shield, 5k for the lumber, and 10k to the crafter, then another 10k when he HQed it.

Get this, it sells from 200-500k and only like 4 or 5 have ever sold. All I have to say is OMG. OMG Indeed.

Grim, as a wanna-be alchemist I have a question. Where did you get cobolt jellyfish for mercury? I would like to fish for it if possible but if not I'm assuming you got it at the AH or Fisherman's guild? If anyone has tips on how to catch these let me know ^^
#21 Aug 24 2004 at 2:17 PM Rating: Good
I bought it at the alchemy guild and a couple stacks from AH. But I only did mercury for 2 levels so I didn't mind wasting the money.

I won't advise trying to fish em up. Do whatever it is you do to make good money, and buy the fish. Fishing em up would take forever and only be "worth it" if you could fish up enough to equal the amount of money you'd make otherwise.
#22 Aug 24 2004 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
Trying to not make this a how to level alchemy thread but what levels did you do mercury and when did you switch? My guide (over in the tradeskill forum) says to do Mercury from 9 to 14.

I did deodorizer til 10, mercury til 12..realized that was a REAL pain...and moved on to echo drops hehe. May have lost a bit more money starting early...but those materials were MUCH easier to come by hehe.

I see, I may follow in those footsteps. Although I have a TON of lightning crystals in the mog. Maybe I can desynth stuff...
