Hello,

This seemed the best place to post rather than posting a new thread.

I started back in UK PC release, Jan 2005 I think. Played for a good 3 years then drifted away.

I've been playing FFXIV on and off since that released but it's just not doing it for me.

So I decided to try coming back on FFXI. So much nostalgia, I loved it back in the day. But now I find it's quite different.

Anyway, I had a few jobs at 75. For a couple days I have been trying out solo on the Grounds of Valor on my 58 SMN. Solo-ing is so much easier now. It's great!

I have all the expansions but have no idea what Abyssea is all about yet.
I would love a LS to join to have some guidance for an old noob. :)

What I would really love is some old school parties to xp with. Like the old times. Skillchains and Magic Bursts. Does that still happen?

In-game name is Scotchio, I'm not a hardcore end-game player, more casual "but can get involved when interested" type. ;)

Hello all. Returning player here that is very lost!

I haven't played in years but I recently returned. What is the best way to level now? Doesn't seem like anyone forms parties any longer. I've been reading about FOV and GOV. What is the difference between the two and what would be the best way to level up these days? I don't have a linkshell (it died) so I have no one to help me with anything so I will be going at it alone and need advice. My jobs levels are mostly in the 40s-50s.

Just started playing, looking for a linkshell, and some tips. I wanna level now, but I don't know where. I'm in Kazham now, but no parties here :(

FYI: I played for a little bit a long time ago, but never really got fair. Making a second run with a brand new character... I'm still newbie...

I've been doing some Grounds of Valor solo and it's pretty good.

Check the info here and the areas here.

Basically, find one where the mobs a few levels below you, so they are easy prey or decent challenge (easy prey is probably safer). I started as a 58 SMN fighting level 50-56 mobs. The trick with GoV is the longer you stay in the same place doing the pages the exp bonus you get for completing a page goes up.

When I started I was getting about 1300xp bonus and after a good few hours I was getting 2000+xp bonus.

The normal xp for mobs seems to have increased too. I am getting 140+ xp for killing easy prey mobs. Without any xp ring.

If you leave the area the bonus xp resets. But if you get reraise from the field support option from the book you can still stay in the area, just find a safe place to die. ;)

Oh and you don't have to wait for the next day to do another page (or the same page again), you can keep going back to the book get another.

I went from 58 to 60 in a few hours. The xp on GoV solo seems even better than the parties of old.

Doing GoV in a party would still be faster and better though. That's something I'd like to try.

Hi everyone, please forgive me if the length of this post seems long and the content seems tedious but I'll do my best to get to the point..... eventually lol

My in game name was/is Cirius/Linke
I don't even remember which server i'm currently on I might have been moved.
I'm 31 and from the UK.

I quit playing FFXI around 1.5 years ago after close to 5 years playing... before that I was a very active and I'd consider myself to have been experienced and competent in all my jobs that I lvl'd to 75 (8 of them at the time), I always had a good group of friends in game and really enjoyed the content and the rewards. I completed the majority of the game content but always felt I was losing out somewhere along the line (I'll come to that in a bit)

now I've tried multiple MMO's since FF and to be perfectly honest non of them ever gave me the same sense of achievement that FF did, to be fair to these other games, WoW, LOTR, FFXIV etc to name a few, it wasn't the games fault as such more a case of it just wasn't FF.

I left around the time that Salvage, ZNMs, Einherjar, Augmentation, the crystal war areas (Past vanadiel) had not long been implemented. And obviously since then the level cap has been raised and other areas such as abyssea have been introduced.

now as silly as this sounds i'm daunted by the prospect of coming back to the game were i'm no longer considered experienced... all the new content scares the Sh*t out of me and makes me think there's just so much to take in..for instance augmentation makes me cry a little, last time I logged on I saw so many nice pieces of equipment of varying stats etc.. I was lost... In essence it feels like i'm starting over again... I hate not knowing and feeling like i'm drowning in a "To Do" sea.

But FFXI being like a narcotic to me in the past and with my situation meaning I have plenty of spare time on my hands after work its calling out to me lol....

so what I would love to know is this...

Are there any active UK/EU linkshells that are recruiting an "old" vet like me, who have members willing to help re-immerse me back into the end game community at a slow pace, help me get back up to speed and cap and most off all enjoy the game again. I'm looking for a social/event Ls with a nice bunch of core people, I'm what you would class as a mature gamer now at 31 I guess... so I also have a lot to offer people, I've been involved in running some HNM Ls's myself in the past so I understand the commitment and time involved etc.

Anyway... I appreciate any feedback and suggestions

many thanks

Cirius/Linke
