Automatic redirection to spam ad sitesFollow

Almost every time I look up a quest write-up for EverQuest, after some amount of time, the page automatically redirects to a spam ad site external to ZAM and the "back" button becomes disabled, so that results in requiring wasting time to go back to ZAM and find the page again, only to have the same thing happen again and again and again.

Is that an authorized thing, or is there some kind of corruption, malware or other unwanted and unauthorized intervention causing this to happen?

What is the likelihood of stopping those page redirections?

Happens to me on occasion when browsing on a mobile device (no ad blocker). I can't tell which ad causes it. Much like the random ad that messes up the page layout when using mobile, I have just learned to ignore it. Close the page and reload and hope that it gets out of the rotation eventually.

Bump. Have this happen a fair amount. Today I'm having a different problem: every page I view keeps scrolling down to the bottom every few seconds, I suppose when an ad refreshes. Makes trying to view a write-up impossible.

Which ad is causing this? You might try installing adblock plus for your browser. That should take care of the particular ads you're having trouble with.

This is still happening and is very easy to verify. Just open a few windows and leave them for an hour or two, you'll eventually get served up one of several ad sites that take over the browser, load a false antivirus page, survey page wanting to install malware or pop-up windows in chrome that won't let you leave a site that failed to load. I've had to install adblock solely because of Allakazam, which is really not acceptable. It's your revenue that's going out the window, so police your pool.

What is the url of the site it redirected you to that had the malware? Do you have any logs from your antivirus or anti malware programs so we have something to go by? I'm trying to figure out which advertiser it is that's doing this.

I've been running the site, logged out in an open browser without no ad protection for the past couple of days. I have yet to be redirected to any sites or had any malware hits on Norton Security, Malwarebytes or Spybot.

One of them i've seen a lot of is a targeted comcast survey that seemed to be trying to get you to click on a speed test download, so it may be targeted ads. I'll run w/o adblock and get some urls this weekend.

Edit: Here are some of the redirected sites that have popped up so far:

I run in Alla's with nothing more than Windows "whatever" protection and have never had an issues in 10 years.

I strongly suspect an alternate problem.

No. It's Zam's ads. All sites' ads really. Siliconera is a bad one for it on my phone.

I use Firefox with various things to stop them, but if I leave any zam site loaded on a PC or tablet without various protections, the ads cycle (auto reloading) and occasionally they redirect you to various advertising websites, etc. I left a zam site open on my laptop at work during Lunch. And left to fix a machine, came back and the site had reloaded to some program advertisement. Happens more often on my phone, where it redirects to App Store stuff. These days though Apple wizened up and made it so you had to confirm all app store redirects from the browser, so I don't end up being forced to random app store pages.

It's more trouble than it's worth (for me) to try to find the links for all the offending ads. Cause it ends up being random ones in a pool of dozens. I've accepted it as an inevitability of ads.

Here's the URL the page directed to (just had it happen while wrapping up my day at work). Don't know what ad loaded. Cause I just closed the page once it redirected:

http://temporaryfaildatax000.com/ubWFr/index.php?s1=5269&s2=Firefox&vcid=5b5bcc2d-1cfa-43f6-ba77-b9c05b6119cf&dfn=(888)%20599-2551&dn=%2B18885992551&a=ADSU

Warning, it's a "You are infected" malware download site. It also automatically plays audio with a man saying "You are infected, your credit card information has been compromised, please contact us, blah blah blah."
