WoWhead not displaying properly. Follow

#1 Apr 17 2013 at 8:29 PM Rating: Decent
I've had this problem for the past two days with no way to fix it permanently. When I got to just about any page on WoWhead on any browser, both on my laptop and on my Nexus 7, I get nothing but the WoWHead page with every limited, but absolutely useless, sections. The window is black, the wowhead logo is up, I get a bar add on the right side and the top, the option to login/register and post feedback but am ultimately unable to actually log in or post any feedback.

The search function brings up nothing. Articles don't work. The forums don't display. If I get a specific page for something it shows me certain I've deleted my cookies, emptied my cache, hard reloaded the thing, turned off my extensions, and all of it has changed nothing. I've asked friends if they have the same problem and they don't. I'm at my end here and I have no clue what else there is to do, nor do any other topics in this forum seem to hint as to what to do. It works occasionally, but shortly after decides to return to this useless format.

Help?

Edit: To demonstrate what I mean:

Are you still experiencing this issue?

I have this issue as well and it is not dependent on browser; I've tried IE, Firefox, Chrome. I had no issues until end of April or beginning of May. Right now, the symptoms are exactly the same as described in the post above - no text, no menus, search does not work. Basically Wowhed is a skeleton without content.

This happens when I access the interet using an IP from my ISP in Poland. However, when I tried another connection through VPN, which gets the public IP assigned in the U.K., everything works properly. It does not matter if I am logged in or not. The only thing that seems to make a difference is the IP I get assigned and, therefore, the geographical region I belong to. FYI, the ads show up all the time, so this part is ok. :)

The issue seems to be resolved for me now.

I know this topic is a few months old but I wanted to let you know I am now having the same issue. If it is an ISP thing I am on COX communications in Arizona. I had this problem yesterday as well but then it started working again. Now it is happening yet again. I have tried changing my DNS settings to Google's as well just incase it was a DNS issue but that did not help. Any ideas on this?

I'm having the exact same issue and I am also on Cox in Arizona. A refresh seemed to fix the problem - once. It's back and refreshing doesn't help.

Same deal with Cox in Las Vegas.

Same deal with Cox in California, also note that I opened a thread on the wow website here:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/9245735263#12

1 user found multiple error entries while inspecting element under console on google chrome on WoWhead. Here's what I see:

Uncaught ReferenceError: PageTemplate is not defined www.wowhead.com/:59
Failed to load resource http://d3pkae9owd2lcf.cloudfront.net/mb103.js.gz
Uncaught ReferenceError: g_trackEvent is not defined www.wowhead.com/:69
Uncaught ReferenceError: g_trackEvent is not defined www.wowhead.com/:75
Uncaught ReferenceError: Markup is not defined www.wowhead.com/:91
Uncaught ReferenceError: Markup is not defined www.wowhead.com/:105
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'r' of undefined www.wowhead.com/:110
Uncaught ReferenceError: PageTemplate is not defined www.wowhead.com/:114
Uncaught ReferenceError: Menu is not defined home.js:4

I have never had this issue before with wowhead in the past 5 years I've been using it. I too have changed my DNS as well as called cox communications to send me a new static IP. It has not resolved anything.

Awesome, can you reply back here with the fix and what went wrong? Or just give us a heads up as to when it's resolved.

Hi everyone.

I have been noticing this same problem and I seem to have fixed it (for myself).

I normally prefer to use Google's public DNS servers and was using them when I noticed this problem.
Google's DNS servers:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

I set my DNS servers back to those provided by my ISP for now and wowhead loads properly again.

  • If you have manually configured your DNS IP addresses to use Google's, try switching back to receiving them via DHCP and then release/renew your DHCP lease.
  • If you still want to set them manually, search for "[your ISP] dns address" and you should find what you need.
  • If Google is your ISP or if you're still having problems try searching for "best public dns address" and there are many alternatives (the Level3 servers from the first hit worked great as well).

NSLOOKUP results:

Using Google DNS:
>nslookup wowjs.zamimg.com
Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address: 8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: e6154.g.akamaiedge.net
Address: 96.7.66.222
Aliases: wowjs.zamimg.com
          wowjs.zamimg.com.edgekey.net

>nslookup wowcss.zamimg.com
Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address: 8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: e6154.g.akamaiedge.net
Address: 96.7.66.222
Aliases: wowcss.zamimg.com
          wowcss.zamimg.com.edgekey.net

Using Comcast DNS:
>nslookup wowjs.zamimg.com
Server: cdns01.comcast.net
Address: 75.75.75.75

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: e6154.g.akamaiedge.net
Address: 23.12.34.222
Aliases: wowjs.zamimg.com
          wowjs.zamimg.com.edgekey.net

>nslookup wowcss.zamimg.com
Server: cdns01.comcast.net
Address: 75.75.75.75

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: e6154.g.akamaiedge.net
Address: 23.12.34.222
Aliases: wowcss.zamimg.com

Constant errors, and will not work. I have changed dns to 4 different servers, flushed after each one, cleared cache and all browsing history, used IE, Chrome etc. Nothing works. This is becoming a common trend in the last month or so.
