Given the new youtube embed feature, we have extended our image upload rule with a new amendment covering videos. As this is functionally identical to the existing rule aside from changing images to videos, we are going to go ahead and put this in place immidiatly without the usual preview and debate, since essentially nothing changed. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome:

Amendment 7. Embedded Youtube Videos:
Quote:
All embedded video content must not exceed [http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp PG-13 standards as defined by the Motion Picture Association of America]. Prohibited video content includes, but is not limited to nudity, obscene or indecent language or visual content, animations containing sexually suggestive motions, and content that causes excess controversy. Videos that deliberately include excessive blinking, flashing or other intentional annoyance devices are also prohibited. All embedded video links are subject to admin approval and may be removed at the discretion of the administrator. Zam.com administrators will deal with inappropriate links within the forum system. It is the responsibility of the offended party undertake to have offensive content modified or removed from youtube itself

If you believe a video link to be inappropriate, please report the post containing the link to inappropriate material

If you believe an image to be inappropriate, please submit it for review to a moderator using the report image button.

Since embedded videos are larger and therefore potentially more offensive than avatar image content, extremely objectionable image uploads are grounds for an immediate ban.

This is live as of now on 6-29-2011.

Link gives me a 404. Also, I have never liked the 'pg-13 guidline' thing anyway. One example on why it is flawed is the word ******* 'Oh ****!' and 'what the hell is this ****?' would fly in pg-13 in moderation, while 'I have to take a ****' or 'I stepped in a pile of ****' would not. So there is a vague zone right there. The word f**k can also fly below the radar, but under much slimmer circumstances.

I feel like I've asked this before, but... what constitutes "excess" controversy?

Question: Since the rules state that PG-13 is given to movies that contain "one of the harsher sexually derived words", does this mean that the f-word is allowed in videos but not text on this site?

Looks like a catch-all phrase to justify action against anything that becomes problematic for the staff.

It's expected that certain topics will create a bit of a stir in a forum. Someone posting that hunting video of themselves shooting bambi in the woods will annoy the animal lovers. Someone posting a video of themselves performing a cheat or exploit in a game to call it out and make it known so it will be fixed will annoyt the people using it, and the people who think they just posted it to brag. Things like this cause controversy. Excess controversy is when they cause enough trouble that I start getting annoyed PM's from people, and you start seeing people quoteing things with "reported" and "admin ____ is gonna yell at you now 'cause you're in trouuuubleee!!!" or outright flamewars. Essentially, if leaving something results in significant amount more work to try and keep things civil in a given area, we'll pull it.

The "Admin approval" sentance is actually the "catch all" phrase there.

If its something I won't let you put in images already, putting it in a video isn't going to make me thrilled. It's kind of a grey area. Someone filming something cool who happens to accidentally say that one that rhymes with "duck" once during the vid, might be ok. if someone reported it, we might remove it. On the other hand, a really offensive performance or something with that language repeatedly might get someone yelled at. if in doubt, always ask first.

The jerks changed the link. I'll update the rules. this is the current page.

Are videos like this one okay to post, too?

More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented.
OK, everybody, time to post non-sexual nudity.

A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context.
There we go again.
