Feature request - Necrobump warning at topFollow

#1 Jan 17 2011 at 2:43 PM Rating: Excellent
Would it be possible to also put the necro warning at the top of the thread, before the OP, in addition to next to the necrobump post, so that people like me who don't look at dates don't notice they're reading a several month old thread until they get nearly to the end of it and THEN realize it was necrobumped?

Alternatively, edit the title upon necrobump to say something as simple as [Necrobump] or [Warning: Necrobump].

An Icon would be more economical. Maybe instead of a page, or a page with a flame or what-not, a little jolly roger.

This sounds like a good idea Smiley: thumbsup

This icon should be used instead of the page/flaming page or whatever for a necro thread.

On a slightly related note, is there any chance that the warning can be adjusted so that it will still be visible even if the post that triggered it is hidden by the filter?

I saw a thread in =21 and didn't realize that it was necroed until I clicked the "Expand" button on a Sub-Default post and saw the necropost warning. >.<

People actually use the filter?

Dammit, Rog, at least let me edit my post before you quote and reply to it. Smiley: tongue

Yeah, I actually use the filter. I usually don't bother to read a post that's been pushed below the filter.

Also, what's up with this?

Happens if both " and either > or < are in the post being replied to, or edited. If replying, it doesn't matter if you quoted the original post.

I get it now. TPO, you're some kind of debugging robot sent from the future, aren't you?

But really, it is not that hard to figure these things out once you know what an issue is.

All i did for this was copy paste my post, and delete parts until it stopped happening. In this case it stopped when i removed >.<, or even just one part of it. To make sure that was the only issue, i removed everything but it, and it didn't happen. From there it was just a matter of repeating step 1. Took a total of 5 minutes.

Bumping the topic about necrobumping due to a couple necroed topics in XIV main.

Any chance of putting a more obvious warning on necroed threads, such as some of the suggestions proposed in this thread?

Just read a year-old thread in the OOT that had been bumped. Some indicator in the title would really be sweet.

Little thread type icons would be neat, with internal voting as well, ie; you could mark a thread as a flame war, necro, humor, etc and after a few votes (5-10?) it would be labeled as such.

Putting it in the OP or an icon aren't un-doable, but would definitely take some work based on how it works. The way it works currently, it would add too much overhead to do on lists of threads or whatnot. Would be doable to put something at the top of the thread when you are viewing it, though. I'll see what I can do.

I don't know how the icons next to threads work right now but I guessed/hoped that it wouldn't be too hard to set conditions for a necro icon.

On that note, how do those icons work?

Without getting into the nitty-gritty, some things are done on the post, some things on the OP (or thread if you want to view it that way,) and still other things a 3rd place entirely. Necros are on the post level, and most thread-based notes are either on the OP of the thread or the other place entirely (for read/unread status among other things).

Ah, so it's just a question of clever implementation that doesn't bog down your servers.

So, are you clever enough?

That's a challenge by the way.

LoL, I know one way to do it already. Unfortunately, that way requires taking the whole site down for maintenance and I don't think we want to do that.

Noticed a slight bug with the necro post box. If you rate down the offensive corpsedigger, the necro box gets duplicated. Refresh the page and it's gone, so it's not that big of a deal.

Totally worth it for zombie icons.
