The database for weaver and a couple others are becoming useless because when you go to look for something almost a whole page is taken by one recipe with its multiply different colors.

Was just wondering if you could take those pages and make the recipes for one item then a note on that items page of different colored materials you can use instead of the current way with 4+ copy's of the same thing with just the color changed.

If you don't understand what I mean look at recipes on say the Goldsmith page and compare it to the Weaver page.

Could you give a specific link of what you're talking about? The Weaver recipes database? I know it's really annoying to have 5 different colors of each item, trust me, we know having to enter all of these recipes manually, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to call the pages "useless". I'd need a more specific example of a search you've done to evaluate further.

I know what he's talking about.

He's referring to how you have every single colour separated, like here: http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/recipelist.html?result=hempen&rank_low=&rank_high=&class=34&tool=&ingredient=&order_by=

And here: http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/recipelist.html?result=cotton&rank_low=&rank_high=&class=34&tool=&ingredient=&order_by=

And... well you get the point. He thinks you need to nest all the colours under the item.

In what display though? Under search? The game has all of these items separately, which is why we have them all separately in the db. :( I don't know that there's anything we can do to exclude all the colored items.

In every display.

I found it very offputting when trying to look for recipes when I was trying to use the DB here. You have to go through 2-3 pages of mostly repeated items just to find what is in your range most of the time.

Hey guys - unfortunately we can't condense the lists because they're different recipes. While they are technically named the same, since each is different and has different ingredients, it wouldn't be a good idea to start bunching them together. I get what you're all saying - it's a pain in the *** to scroll through pages simply because the developers of the game decided to make every single recipe different (and not just having a dye system to color your clothes post creation).

I wish we could do more, but in this case we can't. Smiley: disappointed

An MMO developer has managed to cause a fan site's database system to be a time sink.

Now THAT'S dedication.

You just made me spit Mountain Dew all over my monitors after reading that. If I was actually drinking Mountain Dew at the time.

Well if you can't fix it like that then maybe add a second database option where it only shows recipes with just the base color materials.

So ppl that want to just look thru the list real quick that understand changing the color of the cloth makes a different color can use it and not be so frustrated.

Eventually some fansite will do it right just hope ZAM does it first cause i prefer this site over any other.

And the answer of "The game has all of these items separately, which is why we have them all separately in the db." it is your site and your database I'm pretty sure you can't write it how ever you want. And why not make it user friendly it's kinda what its here for.

How about a link that leads to a disambiguation page for the colored items and whatever else is similar?

Cloth Gloves

click

Red Cloth Gloves
Blue Cloth Gloves
Mauve Cloth Gloves
etc.
