A thread was just nuked in =21, started by RAWDEAL. Did he ask for it to be nuked, or have we gotten to the point where we nuke an entire thread if one poster acts up in it?

I don't believe they will nuke threads by request, only lock them.

I nuked it for a variety of reasons, and I explained exactly why to RAWDEAL as he was the OP.

There was apperently a karma issue that derailed the thread later, and a significant portion of the thread ended up nuked. I've norated the party at the root of that derailment.

Some times when a thread is headed off into tangential and volitile oblivion, you have to moderate it somewhat. Nukeing isn't necessarily permanent. I suppose in this case I personally would have locked rather than nuked, but its a judgement call at the time of the occurance, and one that is the call of the admin making the decision.
