Layout...? (FFXI)Follow

#1 Nov 22 2010 at 12:54 PM Rating: Excellent
What the crap is going on with the weird new menus and the random search bar covering the moogles eyes like his identitiy needs to be kept a secret on the FFXI layout? I, and I think the majority of users, didn't particularly like the new dropdown menus to begin with, but this is just ridiculous. It's like every six months, you guys want to annoy the sh*t out of us with some new hoops we have to jump through to get to the forums we want to visit.

This. What's next? Are you going to light the hoops on fire in a few months? Smiley: mad

On a more reasonable tact, when I have the page scrolled all the way to the top and I mouse over the forums tab, then to the cross site tab, the menu is too large and it spills down off the page. If I want to visit the Asylum, for example, the menu is cut off.

But, really, please just put it back to the way it was. Please. I'm begging here.

Holy crap, this. The dropdowns were unwieldy enough without cramming all the forums under one dropdown.

I admit, I'm at a bit of a loss here as well. After your major overhaul earlier this year, it was incredibly obvious that a huge chunk of the users didn't like the condensed drop-downs... so now you've condensed them more? Smiley: confused

Seriously, we get used to a drop-down menu and you switch it up to mix us some more? Is there any point to it?

How many of us need to tell you guys that this new stuff sucks and the old stuff didn't before you stop giving us more new stuff we don't want and let us have the old stuff back? Smiley: glare

Normally I support any changes made, whether I like them or not, as it's a sign you guys are trying to improve things and I eventually get used to the changes, but how about we give it a rest for a while?

Get rid of the A-L M-Z crap. Seriously a group that is suppose to listen to its users, it seems as though we have to bend over backwords complaining about it to make you guys see how wrong something is. Even thrn its only 20% chance you guys actually change it. This was one of the reasons I stopped paying for premium.

More like 0%. They may make some minor tweaks, but they won't change it back to something that's not retarded now. They loves them some drop downs, because they look good, and **** the lower usability.

I agree with everyone statement above. It is far too hard to get to some menus and I think you are going to see drop off in visits form people that don't have the patience to look for the forum that they need. Gamers are not know for their patience.

Agreed with Ugly. Unless there's a real need for the change that simply isn't obvious and you guys can clear up for us.

/shrug the wow forums seem to be fine, if not better than they were since the previous change. maybe I missed a step between where things were worse?

I'm not really sure where to start.

First off, thank you for finally changing the menu system. Those crazy double mouse-over things from the last layout was horrible, especially on a touch pad.

Second, big *** brown search field on the class WoW template? Heeeeeell no!

This. I have all the forums I go to bookmarked, so I don't use the menus at all, but all this change is getting a bit disconcerting.

Agreed with Ugly. Unless there's a real need for the change that simply isn't obvious and you guys can clear up for us.
The big problem is that all the forums were different. This is just part of them picking one style and applying it to everything.

So they picked the worst possible style and applied it across the board?

No, all of them were the same except one. Then they changed them all to the skin that was only used by one forum.

Meh. I can't stand this one, so since I only use 2 forums for the most part anyway, I'm adopting Vataro's method: bookmarking.

Adding a +1 to this is terrible. Since this started last night or whatever, I've been opening Alla, seeing the design again, and losing interest and just opening BG. I don't get how this makes anything better.

Is a new database search feature on the table? The one they use over at Wowhead is pretty nifty, with the drop-down suggestions and stuff. Only reason I use that site for database searches. Not that it matters much now that you're all working together.

And please consider reducing the width and height of the search field. It's just so large... and brown.

Ps. Cross Site drop-down should be widened. The Computer Hardware & Troubleshooting frame is larger than the others.

Just wanted to also put my vote in to going back to the old style trying to get to cross-site forums cuts off half the menu unless i prescroll half way down the page so i can barely see the menu at the top.

Why is the search field HUEG LIEK XBOX, while most of the text in other areas is small? Heck, the field is more than twice the size of the text you type into it. Also should probably be white text instead of black. Less drop downs, not more. And ... that's really all I got. Personally, I don't mind the menus so much. Just the bizarre decisions for the search field.
