Sticky Request for Cata-Beta ContestFollow

Can we have a clearly labeled sticky for the contest in WOW general? New posters who are just making an appearance for the shot at a beta key are unlikely to actually bother to read rules/directions/clarifications. Since DF's comments seem to indicate that admins won't be able to move misplaced posts, perhaps the thread could be re-titled as "Cataclysm Beta Contest Entries" and the announcement amended:

Quote:
Then make a post in this thread about the part of Cataclysm that you're the most excited about. Posts in other sections of the forum are not eligible as contest submissions.

Comments in bold face indicate suggested language, but actual bold face might help draw attention to the requirement.

I find that unfortunatly most people skip directly over the stickies, ignoring them completely. That might actually serve to make the problem worse. We could try it though.

If we don't sticky it, can we at least nuke the threads that are being made? Seeing them there only serves to reinforce the idea that that's how you enter the contest.

OK, skip the sticky part -- you're probably correct about people skipping them. Could we at least change the language to make it a bit clearer? Perhaps a "click here to enter your submission" button that links them to the correct page?

Is there a way to make a link in the news post as a reply to contest thread, bypassing the chance to accidentally create a new thread?

Edit: I should read the whole thread. Smiley: tongue

Wait, we're not supposed to post in the thread Micahj created in order to submit an entry?

Here's a thought:

How about making people reply to the contest article and not some other thread in a forum they've never visited before? At least then there'd be no "iamma moest exited!" thread spam in the forum some of us use on a, um, more regular basis.

If you could place that contest article on a separate server, that would be nice as well. Lag is lag.

Edit: Also, could you remove the misplaced replies instead of just locking them? We've got 10 locked threads on the first page now, some, what, 24 hours into the contest? Whether they're locked or not doesn't matter, what matters is that they're taking up space.

If I nuke them, then the poster won't see that they need to post in the actual thread.

Some people, even experienced users click the wrong link.

Be happy that we are having a contest in the first place. Smiley: grin

Why would I be happy about that? Usually your contests are 'US only' and this particular contest, for a chance to help test a buggy game, is also messing up our forum.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a contest, but only if it involves you, me and a candlelight dinner. Smiley: sly

I suspect you'll live through it.

You think? I'm not so sure, to be honest.
