Bug, or "feature" ?Follow

Did something change, again?

I use the old style WoW skin (the orange/brown thingy) and the mouseover menu bar across the top (which I hate, but deal with) used to work in a certain way, if you just click the heading "forums" it would bring you to the great big list of every forum on the site.

Today, I click the "forums" menu link, and it brings me to only the WoW specific forum list. Is this intentional? Can you make it not do that?

Same thing with me and the FFXI skin. I used to click on the main "Forums" tab and it would send me to the complete forums list, (easy access to OOT, Asylum, General Game and Movies forums) but now it sends to the FFXI forum category.

I can see why it was changed, but it does throw me off quite a bit.

Hey guys and gals - it is a "feature." I know you have had to deal with a lot of changes in the last few months, but hopefully this will be the last when it comes to your forums. The decision was made because we've had a number of users suggest that clicking on the general "Forums" and then presented with a full forum list, especially when you're visiting a particular site for the first time (for example the WoW or TERA sites), was very confusing.

If you're looking for a way to find either all the forums or the select general game forums, you can either click the "Cross Site" tab on the submenu or use the drop down from that list. Would it be more transparent if Cross Site were labeled "All Forums" instead? Definitely want your feedback on it.

"More forums than your body has room for" would be cool, if a little long.

In a unrelated, but awesome note, you guys should totally add /K/ to the list of Cross Site forums listing.

Took me a second to figure that out, but yeah, "All Forums," or "Forums List" would be a better link name.

Ok - thanks for the feedback NixNot. We do appreciate it. I'll probably talk it over with Darqflame and we'll come up with something - either All Forums or Forum List.

EDIT: LOL @ Kirby.

The ffxi skin has a link to http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?cat=19 labled All FFXI. Imo, it'd be best to add that to all the skins, and then put the forum tab link back how it was.

Do you like the current forums button functionality or did you prefer the way it worked previously
I liked the previous way that linkd directly to forum.html better :16 (69.6%)
I prefer the current functionality of the forums button that takes me to forums specific to my game :7 (30.4%)
Total:23

I have addressed my feelings on the change in the ticket system.

I think the new functionality is better for people visiting the site for a specific game and trying to find info or forums for that game. Maybe a compromise would be to redo forums so that it goes

1) relevant forums to your game
2) cross site forums
3) other games

with clear separations. That way people would see what they need to see right away, and also have a chance to learn that this website is for more then just one game.

I prefer the way it worked before. But then again, I have long since stopped playing the game that first brought me to this site and instead use it just for the forums.

If only I could get a dark blue style like the FFXI skin on the zam.com skin, and I'd use that instead for the basic "forum.html" link.

For half of the skins, the link is redundant. The ffxi/ffxiv forums already have a link to their respective categories. For eq, eq2, warhammer, etc the forum tab just links to their general forum, which already had a link. It looks like the wow skin is the only one that didn't already have link to what the forums tab is now pointing to.

I think the best thing to do would be to put the forums tab link back to /forum.html, and simply add a link to cat=54 to the wow skin.

I wish I could have a dark version of the zam.com skin, or have the old style back.

This would be ideal, but it really depends on how the old code manages the forums.

That said, I want to make a quick note on the poll Kaolian put up. The majority of people that visit this forum are probably the folks that used the all forum functionality regularly. Now that doesn't mean that we should put a poll like this on the other boards, but the numbers will be skewed because of that fact.

All skins should be customizable. Premium only? Fine.

I haven't checked other skins, but thank you whoever made it so clicking forums brings you (on the wow skin) to a list that begins with the forums for your chosen skin, then the Cross Site list, then an alphabetic list of the rest of the forums.

Best compromise ever.

Speaking of menus (more or less), could you tickle the designers and tell them to puhlease increase the mouse-over menu bar height by, um, 25% or so? Makes it infinitely more easy to navigate the stuff on a laptop and for us people using them crazy 24" monitors because we think size matters.

Or do I need to create a new thread for this? I don't know the procedure these days.

Yeah - we thought the compromise that you guys wanted was the best solution to our problem and made a whole lost of sense. Additionally, thanks to PsychoticProphet for pointing out the navigation error. We'll get that tightened up.
