Timezones are something we hadn't handled very well, so today we made some changes to how time is stored.

As part of this change, we also changed how user's timezone settings are handled, and because of this, you may need to go to your user page and re-set your timezone setting under 'forum settings'.

If you notice any oddities after updating your settings, let us know.

Also the live feed is now using a different (still wrong) time zone.

to clarify, it has always ignored time zones settings. It used to be -6, and is now using gmt.

uposts is fixed, and live now uses your timezone setting.

I'm a bit amused by how quickly you fixed something that has been known about for months Smiley: tongue

Thanks.

That's part of why rale made a change to how we stored date and time.

I figured as much. I was just joking. You guys are usually very quick to fix anything that comes up, I'd never complain about something so insignificant. Keep up the good work Smiley: thumbsup

Because I'm a slow learner, the timezone stamp now shows when a post was created according to the viewer's timezone, right? If mine shows 1 am and I'm in CET, then someone created that post at 1 am CET. Right?

Also, why are there a million timezones for each interval? GMT+1 shows as both IST/CET/WAT and WEST. What's the difference when they're all GMT+1? And why are they all African? Considering the amount of Africans likely to use this site, isn't it a little overkill? Usually CET isn't Africa/Algiers, but something like Paris/Madrid/Oslo. Something Europeans can relate to.

Edit: Also, CET seems to be one hour behind, though I'm guessing that's because some countries (Africa/Algiers?) didn't do the whole daylight savings stuff. In most of Central Europe, it's about to turn 3 am.

Not all areas within a specific time zone have daylight savings time. Such as Arizona. Which is why we gave the big long list.

I think Hawaii is another place that doesn't use DST.

I see. So I need to find one of the many African timezones with DST?

Any way to set CET (since that's what most Europeans use) to include DST? I have no idea which of the African (WAT? WEST?) use DST.

There's a timezone on the dropdown list labeled (UTC+2000) CEST: Europe/Copenhagen. That might be most suitable for you since you live in Denmark.

Edit: Just checked, and the post in which you mentioned it was almost 3am was written at 2:52am local time. So, yeah, it should work.

Smiley: dubious

That's pretty much it, yeah. Thanks, didn't even consider looking at UTC+2 since I live in a CET (UTC+1) zone, but it'll do.

Ah, my bad, didn't see the CEST note. Explains why. Smiley: blush

I don't suppose you could have the timestamps for live include the seconds again? I really liked having that Smiley: frown

Or for people who live in places where it gets dark at 3pm in the winter and 11pm in the summer.
