Should get one.

I was scolded today for spamming in an active thread after I replied to 3 posters by making/quoting 3 posts in a row myself. It's a PITA to open up 4-5 tabs just to copy/paste text, so a multiquote option would be nice.

edit: Apparently it was suggested before - I just found the thread. Was met with much fanfare, so I guess this is a bump requesting it again.

Just bumping this to ask if it's something currently being looked into.

It would really be convenient, considering the rules about multiple posts in a row. It's a pain in the *** to have to edit your last post and insert extra quotes just to make sure you don't post 2+ times in a row. IMO, it would greatly improve forum functionality.

Would indeed be nice.
I can manually add quote tags, and then copy-paste the quoted text, but it loses any markup unless I manually add that too. And because there's a hover menu over the user name, it's a pain to copy-paste that too >_<

The nice thing about the vBulliten function is that you can multiquote across different pages in a thread, or even across different threads in a forum. It's pretty cool to be able to read through a thread and mark posts as you go that you find interesting and might want to respond to. When you get to the end of the thread, you hit "Reply" and you have a post window with all the quotes you tagged in it. You can then respond to the ones you want to and delete the others and make a single post responding to multiple quotes from the thread.

Would a zam toolbar addon for firefox be too high falootin? I used to use the one they had for fark and it really made making multiple quotes using the preferred quoting method incredibly easy.

If we have an add on toolbar, I've never heard of it. Either way, you should trawl the user base and see what would be good on it. A smart multi quote button would be nice. If you want more details on how the above mentioned fark add on worked, I can look it up. But basically a poster would highlight certain text, then click a toolbar button, and their reply box would have text preformated to a reply. In alla land it would take the highlighted text and put it in an quote=name format.

That would be spooge-worthy.

Thanks, I think.

Well, I found a Firefox plugin that will multitag, so you can sort of multiquote, but it's not really convenient. Having to highlight text and then right-click and go through a menu to tag it is significantly more complicated than just having a button on the individual posts to do it for me.

Re: Multiquote: Are you looking to quote multiple people within a single post you are making or separate posts for each person you quote?
I am looking to be able to read through a thread and flag posts that I would like to respond to. When I am done reading, I want to click Reply, and have the reply text box already have all the posts I flagged quoted. That way I can respond to multiple quotes in one post.

Even if it's limited to say, 5 quotes and if it doesn't take nested quotes, it would still be great.

The situation you are looking to solve is when you are reading a thread, and you see something you want to reply to, so you "Reply to this" and make a post. You read some more, and do the same thing. One more time, and all of a sudden you see you've triple posted. Usually I will middle-click "Reply to this" on the posts I want to respond to so I can use "Quote Original" to extract the quotes and condense it to one reply post, but it is very unwieldy to do it that way.

Basically, the "Multiquote" button should take the result of doing "Quote Original" on each post that you click it on and put that in a queue. Upon clicking Reply, it should paste that text into the reply window.

Exactly this. I think the toolbar idea is a little overboard when we could just tag individual posts like Spoonless said.

That's fine if that's all you want to do. It would still being a pain breaking up a single post and responding to individual parts of it.

Would it be possible, to highlight text in someone's post while in reply mode, and have a little button over each post that would send the highlighted text up into the reply box, pre-formatted? If nothing else, Spoonless's idea would be nifty enough, I guess.

I think that this would be a great interim solution until the requested feature gets implemented (if it happens at all).

In IE, if you highlight text while in reply mode and hit "quote," it'll put it in the reply box with the quote tags around it. Then you just have to add the name. Doesn't work so well in FireFox, and I'm not sure why it's different between the browsers. But I used to do that all the time.

I totally forgot that IE did that. I might need to keep my zam pages open with IE. Thanks, Belkira!

Anytime.

I hope that doesn't stop the multi-quote function discussion from happening, though, 'cause it'd be kick-*** to have that. Smiley: nod

I tweaked the JS to use any selected text in Firefox, similar to how it works in IE. I know it's not as good as a multiquote function, but hopefully it helps for now.

Just did it for that quote on FF. Super.
