Hey, I'm sorry if this has been posted or explained somewhere, but I couldn't find a thread on it. Sincere apologies in advance if it has been, but... what is this on the FFXI skin? It only appears to be on the top page.
Edit: Also, something else I noticed, when previewing your post before submitting it, links don't show up as links so I can't see if I'm doing it wrong.

I had to log out to check for myself. That is one messed up ad and they put it in between the menu and the top of the text frame. Also, I love how Anonymous gets an icon for Aion PvP and EQ2 below their menus when using the WoW layout.

You get them with the FFXI layout too. Its rather obnoxious.

It's an advertising skin which appears on front pages only. Other sites on the zam network have been running them for years, now.

They're fairly commonplace around the internet, especially on gaming sites. An no, these are not the reason for the fixed width on the new layouts (which I'm not going to get into a discussion about yet again).

Considering we skinned sites successfully with variable width and made it fixed width when skinned, it's nothing more than a coincidence.

Exactly.
I get that the two thumbnails are to news articles (apparently), but when one says Aion PvP and the other EQ2 Sentinels of Fate (or w/e), it seems rather irrelevant for someone using the WoW template. Unless, of course, that person is also playing Aion and EQ2 and decided to go with the WoW template because he's got a thing for bland sand-colored themes (unless it's the original theme, which I heartily love).

I really like how this ad works with dropdown menus. Now when I accidentally move my mouse over 3 extra pixels and click instead of having to go back to the thing to open it and click again I have to hit esc or go back.
