We're changing how we track views posts and forums. We are changing it from cookie based to account based. We've been tracking by account for 2 months but other than actually tracking, the data hasn't been used.

Changes:

- Threads/Forums viewed are tracked per account, not per computer. Anonymous is not tracked, you need to be logged in with a free account.
- The numbers in the replies thread in parens means number of unread posts. 25 (10) means 25 replies, 10 of which you haven't read. Threads which haven't been viewed at all by you will display their subject text in bold.
- The green arrow no longer takes you to the end of the thread. It takes you to the first unread post so you can continue from there. Clicking on the date of the last reply takes you to the last post.

This also means that it now tracks what is read/unread regardless of subdomain, so if you ever switch templates it will still display correctly.

Nifty. I've seen it on other forums and thought it'd be nice to have here.

Are you using Voodoo to track the unread posts, or is a clicker installed that keeps track of which posts you've scrolled past?

We need to sacrifice a (kicking the) dead horse thread daily to keep the Voodoo working.

It's clicker based but doesn't use javascript.

Very cool - I love the fact I can hit the link to the bottom of the thread and it takes me to the first new post since my last visit.

Nice job.

Cool, but how come the arrow disappears if you've read all replies?

Because it's a link to the oldest unread post, which in that case wouldn't exist. Clicking the date of the last post in the Last Post column will always go to the last post regardless of whether or not you've read the recent replies.

But I don't want to move my cursor across the entire screen to click on some date. Can't you change it to display the last post in the thread, if there are no new replies?

Also, when hovering the mouse over the arrow, it shows a preview of the first post in the thread. Would it be possible for the mouseover preview to be of the post the arrow links to?

Edit: I can't stress how much I'd really like the above-mentioned. I just now tried to select the date for this post and twice did it send me to my profile instead, having accidentally clicked my name instead of the timestamp. Gief arrow, plx.

While I would also like to have that arrow back (it is actually why I came looking for this thread, I was wondering if the disappearing arrow was happening for everyone or just a glitch happening to me), I can't help but laugh at how lame this request sounds. XD

Yeah, it's petty as hell and I'm mostly just making the request to annoy the developers, but it does present a somewhat unnecessary annoyance. Most of all I'd just like the mouse-over feature to be actually useful for more than just previewing new threads. Hovering the cursor over the arrow and being shown a preview of the last post (or first unread, whatever), would be infinitely more useful than being shown a preview of the first post.

Especially when the thread has some 44 pages...

Edit: Apparently I should stick to comments that aren't tongue-in-cheek.

I noticed the little numbers and was very excited. I've wanted this for a very long time, glad we have it now!

Just noticed you implemented my wanted "arrow preview thingy".

Thank you!

I didn't like these new changes to my precious red arrow at first. But that's because, at heart, I'm terrified of change. I like it, now.

I will add that it would be nice to have the red arrow to go to the last post in a thread, even if you've already read it. Sometimes I'll decide later that I want to reply, and I didn't know you could click on the time stamp.

I love this change! Any chance we could get something similar in the Account->User Posts section as well?

I would like to have 'go to last post' arrows put back on the end of seen-thread titles, perhaps in a different color. Now theres no easy way to jump to the last post except to click on the last page and start scrolling.

This wasn't immediately obvious.

It's also way the **** over there, where I don't want my mouse to be when I'm browsing forums. Not to mention surrounded by other stuff I do not want to click. Keep the arrow there even when you've read everything and just have it go to the last post.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot... where is this arrow that takes you to last read reply?

I can't see it anywhere. Clicking on the date takes me to the most recent reply, and the title to the beginning of the thread.

Or is this Premium only?

It only shows up on threads you've already read at some point, but has had new replies since you last read them. The arrow shows up directly at the end of the thread title.
